Food was good, not great. Burger was over cooked. Ahi was very good.
Enjoyed a summer evening dinner at SAX. Wow - walk in from the street and what beautiful decor. Our servers were helpful and the food was very good!
Very nice place. Good food and drinks. Friendly staff
Spectacular food in a relaxed beautiful environment. Food tastes fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the corn and crab chowder and the lobster risotto. Cornbread was divine! Our server was friendly and funny!
Amazing food! Our waiter was fantastic and everything was cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed ourselves!
My daughter asked for a burger with no cheese and it came covered with melted cheese, so we had to wait for them to cook another. Waiter gave it to us at no charge. Lobster risotto was excellent and a large portion, but it came with no side.
Sax seems to be succumbing to the paucity of good restaurants on Seven Mile Island. Nothing was bad, but neither was anything special. Also, the noise level is verging on painful.
The stuffed bronzino was incredible!! The ceasar salad was excellent. Service was very good and I loved the decor. The place is small so the noice volume is a bit high. Would definitely go again.
Cold food, not cooked as requested. They forgot the grilled chicken salad on the kale chicken salad and brought unseasoned, dry, grilled chicken in a bowl. Disappointing because everything was excellent when I was there in the off season. I will try again. Hoping it was just an off night.
Menu leads you to believe that food would be amazing, but actual delivery was average. Will give it another shot though.
Great service, friendly waiter. Food excellent. Had table by window which was very nice. Some tables very close to each other but that's the only slight comment. Loved this restaurant. Will definitely go back
The service was OK, it seemed like they were understaffed. There was no bartender at the bar, so it seemed like you weren't allowed to sit there. Had to ask for bread, since everyone else around us seemed to have a basket. If you are looking for an nice quiet dinner this is not the place to go. It's very loud and the waiter kept having to lean over to hear what we were saying.
Excellent food and service. The wait staff were exceptional. Quality and presentation of food was well done.
Great dinner!!! Can't wait to come back!!! The food was amazing. Joe made me a perfect cosmo! Johnson was our server, he was great, very attentive. Beautiful restaurant in beautiful Hotel.
My husband and I had the scallops and the lobster risotto, both of which were excellent. Our table also shared the ahi tuna appetizer, which was tasty.
Great dinner and great service. Nice quite table with a view of outside
Buffalo shrimp were excellent. Large shrimp in a delicious sauce. The bolognese pasta was delicious. Great friendly service.
This was a great date night restaurant. The chicken and the salmon were amazing. Would highly recommend.
Love The Reeds at Shelter Haven. However, dining experiences at their restaurants, Sax and Waterstar Grill, are disappointing because the service is just awful. They need a training program. I consider Sax more of a fine dining restaurant but the wait staff service isn't as good as a local diner. I made a note in Open Table reservation and called in advance to ask about glutenfree for someone in our party. I was assured it would be no problem but when we started to order it took 20 minutes and 3 people to get an answer. They were clueless. We live locally and support local businesses. The entire venue is beautiful but the staff seems to have little or no experience and no training. If they say there is training, the trainer should be fired. It was embarrassing because I had taken 4 friends to dinner and more importantly it was concerning because my friend has major reaction to gluten. I will go again because we are local but will not take friends.
We enjoyed this meal during 7 mile Island Restaurant week. Based on our experience, we plan to go back for a meal off the menu. Everything was nicely done and the service was excellent.
The service was not good. We waited for 20 min before anyone asked us for a drink and then the server forgot one of our dinners
The food was good the restaurant was nice and great live music in the bar next door but the service or lack there of was difficult to justify
Lobster risotto was excellent, as was the beet salad. Very nice, upscale dining room. Service cheerful but a bit slow. Would go back for a special occasion.
Had a great time. If you're lucky enough to get Tim as your waiter like my girlfriend and I were, you're going to be served well. Food was brought to us quickly (we elected to share the Tuna Tartare appetizer... Should have gotten two... While the lady had Salmon and I went with Beef Braise) and we enjoyed our meal wholeheartedly. The one gripe that we both had was that we were next to a wall that was about 7 feet wide, I was barely able to look out awindow and my girlfriend (whose birthday it was) was staring at a slab of wood. The table itself was also probably between 18-24" too long... We felt as though we were quite spaced out. All in all, very good meal, good birthday meal, would recommend. 90/100
Dinner was delicious. Will be going back very soon.
Delicious upscale dining in a modern setting. Perfect for dates and celebrations.
Really nice. Service staff is very good. Ask for Jon as your server when making reservations. He is excellent at details and timing. He, along with the busboy/helper (he looks a little like Napolean Dynamite, too) kept things going smooth. Add to that great food and it made for a great evening.
Recent dining experience was disappointing... We eat at The Reeds frequently during the summer season, and generally we have pretty good meals. The menu was new, and that could be part of the problem, but the tuna appetizer was just bad, (consistency, flavor and presentation). Conversely, the Oysters Rockefeller were great. The filet (ordered medium) was very rare, even after being sent for more time on the grill. The lobster risotto was underdone. We have had some great meals here, but this was not one of them. Hoping for improvement this season.
Note: I have not had a good steak here - stick to seafood.
I like this restaurant a lot and highly recommend it. My server and bartender were very nice.
High end for this small NJ shore town. Service by John was terrific. My tomato soup and wedge salad an ample meal! My Aunt's turkey burger a bit of a disappointment in that it was dry and a tad over done so be aware to request care in preparation. Over all quite nice and a surprise to find such a fine establishment along the shore in this smaller area. Noise level similar to other patrons's comments as the dining room is decorated tastefully in hard surface wood, so there's nothing such as upholstery to absorb the chatter of happy diners or wedding party through the wall ... overall though, very nice! Try the "cool as a cucumber" cocktail if you are a gin person! Refreshing!
John was a fabulous waiter and we had such a wonderful dinner. We got married the night before and were celebrating our "mini-moon" at the Reeds this weekend. Thank you so much for making dinner so perfect for us!
Sax has got to do something about the noise level in the restaurant when there is an event in the adjacent ballroom. The glass door to the restaurant is always open and the music and activity in the ballroom is very distracting. It is not a question of being in a restaurant where the "vibe" is high with its own music and guests-- this noise is just a nuisance and is not fair to customers expecting an evening where they can at least hear the persons at the table.
It's like management saying to us customers-- "Just deal with it!"
I don't think I would recommend this restaurant.
SERVICE is horrific... so much so that it just detracts from the evening. Without listing the details just imagine what would annoy you regarding dining service and that's basically what will happen. Because I'm here all simmer I have been here multiple times and EVERY TIME there's service issues... how is that possible? some of the things... slow, forgotten about our table, table still not ready, super slow, don't have the bottle of wine we ordered and told 45mins later, wrong order, portions of order missing, timing of the apps vs entree etc, did I mention they seem to have forgotten about our table?
We have been to Sax many times and it is always enjoyable. The service was great and the roasted chicken dish was tasty! The live music in the bar was very fun and we ended up lingering there after dinner.
This used to be a great spot for fine food and great service. Don't know if it's new ownership or business plan but everything about our experience was bad; so much so we left 1/2 through dinner. Service was rushed but at the same time plates from apps were left until we moved them and silverware never replaced (we did it ourselves). The food was very poor. The salmon was so dry we can only assumed it was frozen. The pasta and crab was so greasy it was inedible (crab also tasted bland suggesting it too was frozen). We have gone to Sax multiple times but we will not be back.
They obviously did not have enough waiters and waitresses.
We waited a long time for our food and drinks.
We have been celebrating our wedding anniversary at SAX for several years, and have always had a memorable time. This year was no exception. From the hostess greeting to the check presentation, the service was outstanding. We were even served complimentary flutes of champagne in honor of our anniversary (they really do track guests' special events!). We had two wonderful dinners, and unfortunately had no room for dessert. Our only complaint was the noise filtering in from the wedding in the ballroom. But since they are booked for weddings every weekend for months, you know going in what you will encounter. In short, a great special occasion restaurant.
food good and prices reasonable. Only problem is the wedding crowds. Noise level can be unbearable in the SAX restaurant. Make sure you get a table far away from the hostess station. Noise
level from disco is ridiculous...
Restaurant was good. Bar areas after dinner was awful. Dirty tables and no service. Waited 15 minutes and left.
Really enjoyed our late lunch date at Sax in The Reeds in Stone Harbor. We went for a late lunch and didn't know what to expect. I am looking forward to returning. The service is a bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry and were not rushed later, so it didn't matter to us. They have a nice weekday special that is just right in amount of food and price. An excellent introduction to the restaurant.
An Asian Salad was my entree, which i dont see online now. It was written up as topped with grilled chicken, but no chicken was included. When I told the staff, they apologized and brought me a small bowl of chicken bits all cut up. It was ok, but I was disappointed I had to ask for it, as well as it was less than appetizing-- it took away from the whole presentation. Like a bowl of catfood to pour on top.
