We enjoyed our dinner not one complaint. Gourmet dining . Our server Paul was excellent.
We have eaten at Sax at least four times. The reason we continue to eat there is due to the waterfront dining. Sadly, we consistently find that the food is either poor to fair especially with the price tag that comes with it. Service is also slow. The night that we were there we were celebrating our daughter's 16th birthday and had requested a specific table. When we arrived, we learned that the owner had taken our table and that the restaurant would seat us elsewhere. The owner should have known better than to take a table that was requested by a customer. We were very upset about this decision especially due to the milestone birthday we were celebrating.
Also, a possum also ran underneath a table that was outside on the deck. A woman screamed and we all looked outside. She came in to explain what had happened.
I am sad to write a negative review because we love the space just not the food or service.
Dinner was awesome! Food was fresh and presentation excellent! Will def go back!
We arrived on time for our reservation and had to wait 25 minutes for our table despite just a few tables being served, plenty of room and many servers available. Our server although very nice, was almost nonexistent. We had to go to the outside bar for drinks after waiting more than 10 minutes for someone to take our order and again for our 2nd round.
The buffalo shrimp and Cioppino were both excellent - everything else was disappointing.
I understand that due to COVID there are limited tables available, but that had nothing to do with the service.
Just Ok. Food was nothing special. Service was not great. Our server may have been by herself but she was rushed. Then we sat with our finished plates for 20 minutes. Wasn’t all that crowded. Been there before and all was much better. COVID is probably a factor and I hate to leave a Luke warm review, but - for these prices , one expect a little more .
Terrible wine list but the food was great
Restaurant has the right combination for what it takes for a great dinner but they were severely understaffed on the night we visited and it took a long time for the one server to get any assistance from what appeared to be a manager. Understood times are difficult right now, but if you're short on servers - then limit the number of reservations you accept. Would return once life gets back to normal.
We absolutely loved SAX. The setting was wonderful. The service was topnotch. The menu was diverse. The food was yummy - we particularly enjoyed the French Onion Soup, the cornbread appetizer and the short ribs entree. We will definitely be returning.
My husbands flatbread with the pulled pork had to be sent back because of bone fragments in the pork. He then ordered the lobster bisque which was really crab soup with a ton of Old Bay masquerading as lobster bisque. My French onion soup was Avery good as were the wedge salads.
When The Reeds first opened we had an amazing meal there but subsequently every year the food had gone downhill. They need to improve their f&b component. It is such a great place to stay.
Tremendous ambience and terrific service. Wonderful drinks as well.
Food was cold and just ok for the price. Server was great and very accommodating.
We went on a quiet night during the off season. Food varied from good to very good. Wine list is interesting but definitely skews to expensive side . Excellent and very personable service both at the bar and in the dining room.
I had dinner with 3 friends on Saturday 3/7/20 at 8 pm. 2 entrees were beef and 2 entrees were seafood. Beef was overcooked and too charred. One seafood entree (salmon) was overdone but accompanying root veggies were delicious. 7 drinks were ordered among 4 people (2 martinis, 1 prosecco, 4 wine). The bill totaled $280 before $60 tip. So each person paid $85 for their meal, 2 drinks and tip. Way too pricey for quality. Entree was $40, drinks were $30, taxes $5, and tip $10 foe each guest.
I have been going to Sax since it opened. They have evolved into a patron friendly spot from their bar to their restaurant. The food quality has become much more even as has the service. This last, off season visit (my second in a month), was pure delight.
Had dinner on Sunday, great wedge salads, also had the braised short ribs, very well prepared. The reeds is the bomb.
The ambiance was excellent. While our server was skilled, her load was unreasonable. In addition to having too many tables, we saw her outside crossing the street to deliver room service. Tables sat after us were served quickly while we waited to even get water. The filet was ordered as medium and arrived at the table rare. The server had us take things off the plate so our guest could continue eating while they put the $40 piece of meat back on the grill. The chicken was dry and over cooked. This was a very disappointing meal.
We stayed at the hotel and wanted to try the restaurant. The food was so delicious and the server, Ashton who was so friendly and outgoing, suggested the menu items based on what she liked. She was right. I got the braised pork which was out of this world! Beautiful atmosphere to have the fireplace going. Very cozy. Staff was amazing and the food was perfect!
I had been here once before and had much better food-quality and service experience. My appetizer of brussell spouts was delicious. The entree of Paparadelle was uninspired, and the creme brulee was average at best. Granted, it was Valentine's Day weekend, so I suspected service to be sub-par, but we ate at 5:30pm, so I expected the food to be good.
The musician in the bar was WAY too loud for a fine dining experience.
I have to say, I'd looked forward to going back there, but I don't think I'll try it again.
Valentine’s Day not happy
Quite winter evening, a nice bottle of wine, blazing fireplace, and a very nice meal. Attentive but not fussy service, a very enjoyable visit.
My husband and I had a WONDERFUL dinner at Sax this evening. His pan seared local scallops and my cioppino were absolutely DELICIOUS. A special shout out to our server, Tim Mulligan, who made our visit extra special. Thank you Tim! See you again 👍🏼
NYE. For dinner. Price Fix menu, ran out of filet, 2 other choices 1 fish, 1 pork. Pork way overdone, halibut was dry
Understaffed making service very poor. The food was mediocre for the outrageous price. I had the scallops with Risotto. I was served 4 scallops and the risotto was inedible. Way too much spice among others things. Could not recommend.
Perfect for Christmas dinner w fireplace Nice respite
Lovely meal in a lovely setting..great service as well.
Food was great! Tom was an awesome server!
This was Thanksgiving buffet. The food was cold, the turkey was sliced turkey roll...nothing home made including the desserts. Overall, very disappointing!!!!
For Thanksgiving-the rooms were so cold my food was cold before I got it back to my table. A huge disappointment. Never again.
First class dining experience
Intimate and elegant setting. Attentive staff. Excellent menu. All six of us thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
We ate here because we stayed at The Reeds on this trip to the area in late Fall. Given the quality of The Reeds as a prime property in a prime beach resort, I just expected better. That said we were out of season and there were few others in the restaurant. Service was professional and pleasant and the food was good, just not at the level one would expect. We probably would not return given the availability of lots of other choices that we like better for the price.
Our server Tim Mulligan was absolutely a treasure.
Hope next time we dine with you he is our server
Very loud atmosphere. Service was slow and not attentive. Food was average to below average for the expense
Food was sub par for a hotel that bills itself as top notch. Waitress was nice but not attentive.
We made a reservation for 7pm. When we arrived, the hostess told us it would be a few minutes before our table was ready. We stood at the hostess stand for 15 minutes and then she told us to go to the bar because our table wasn’t ready. We went to the bar but there was no seats available at the bar so we stood. The hostess came back to get us about a half an hour later. There was also a wedding right next door with extremely loud music. Even when seated at our table, the music from the wedding was so loud we couldn’t hear each other speak. The food was bland and ordinary - nothing special here. We paid $140 for two and left very disappointed.
Very disappointed. Service was very slow. The drink for my wife was wrong and we already had our salad by the time she got her cocktail. The entrees were ok but we never received any bread. When we ordered coffee I asked our server if they served bread with the dinners she said yes and offered it to us with our coffee. She said it was very hectic but we couldn’t understand that with a 50% occupied restaurant. Lot’s to work on if they want to live up to their hype! Very overrated!
It was 1 hour from the time we were served our salads till the Entrees were delivered. Crab Cake was all filler.
We are residents here for 5 months and will not go again.
Went to Stone Harbor for a day of shopping and selected SAX for dinner. The room was lovely (would have been even better or a chilly winter evening with the fireplace on), our server - - Emily -- was fabulous and the food was delicious! There was a very active bar area which was also appealing
Enjoyed it thoroughly.
