Sawmill - Stony Plain Ratings and Reviews
We had an excellent time at the Sawmill
Unfortunately Sawmill doesnt use open table to book their reservations any longer!!!
So when we went there, there wasn't any record of our reservation!
Someone should connect with Sawmill and you guys and let each other know!!
The meal was wonderful, even though we waited a very long time for it to arrive. 35 minutes.... the manager did come by our table to apologize which was appreciated . He followed that up by giving us a free desert. The waitress was not very pleasant, it appeared as she had something other than work on her mind. She didn't ask how our meal was and when asked about certain things on the menu, she was uninterested in talking about it and quick to say "I don't know" when asked about menu items. One would expect that if she didn't know the answer she would seek out another server or manager to answer the question. The manager was the one who had taken an interest in reassuring us that he was sorry about our delay in getting our meal and offered us a desert at no cost. Manager gets top marks, waitress not so much
The food was good but not hot, just warm. It seems that it was left too long after being prepared. The bacon wrapped scallops were very small and over cooked, to where the bacon was almost hard and dry. The potato was barely warm enough to melt butter and quite large relative to the rest of the dinner. The steak was perfectly cooked, but again warm. The soup was very hot and tasty. The waitress paid attention to my companion but very little to me.
My family and I stood in the front lobby with several other customers with reservations for about 10-15 minutes before the hostess came and greeted us. A couple in front of us asked the hostess if their table was ready yet, when a large waitress came flying into the lobby from the restaurant, she was in such a hurry that she didn't notice my 2 year old daughter and suddenly turned and hip-checked my child. My daughter flew to the ground and luckily put her hands to catch her head from hitting the floor. The waitress just sort of shrugged it off while saying sorry, while I picked up my crying daughter from the ground and consoled her. Then hostess told us our table was ready about a minute later, I believe this was the restaurant's way of saying sorry, by not making us wait even though we already had been waiting for some time. The waitress that served us was not quick, it took some time to get our drink order and bring drinks. By 7:45 (an hour and a half after our reservation) myself and kids decided to go back to the hotel while my husband settled up the bill with the waitress. When my husband came back to the hotel, which was 20 minutes after us, he was in complete disbelief. He told me that the waitress had walked by him at a big empty table several times after he had asked for the bill. She then brought him bread and he asked her if she saw anything wrong with him sitting at a empty table without his family that had left quite some time ago. She just said sorry and brought him the bill.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Hostess and service was very good. However, I was not impressed by the food. My 6oz. (medium) top sirloin was tender enough, but it was definitely well-done. If you did not care for root vegetables, you were out of luck, as the vegs. all were grilled carrots, and sliced beets. The best part of the meal was the baked potato. I did not mention anything to the server at the time, as I did not want to ruin the evening for the rest of our party. My husband did mention to me that the jus for his prime rib tasted awful, and he was glad that he had not poured it on his plate, and instead had intended it for dipping.
Our waitress was very good. The hostess' were unprofessional and short with people. I came early to my reservation.. as I do with most things, and they had to point out that I'm early. Most other places I make a reservation for just seat me or tell me it will be a few minutes. I felt like I was an inconvenience to try to be seated.. when I had made a reservation. Not to mention I could hear every issue that was going on because they weren't very quiet about it. Everything else was very nice though, like I said waitress was awesome and food was good as always.
Out for a steak dinner on my birthday at what is supposed to be an "upscale" steak house. Although the steak was cooked nicely, the remainder of the plate was quite lacking. The plate was advertised to be served "fresh seasonal vegetables" but my wife and I were disgusted to find our dishes were served with canned mini corn and carrots! :(. I didn't realize that mini corn was ever "in season". Mr. Goodchild should be ashamed.
We will not be back.
The waitress was slow in taking our our order, she ended up taking other peoples orders who had come in after us. She cleared the other peoples table even though we were finished first.
When it came time to pay the bill, she was at the other people's table even though we were ready to pay our bill first and we didn't get a chance to order a dessert because it was getting late and I ended up late for my work. We didn't get out of the restaurant until 1:15 p.m.
Our visit started off a tad weird as we were seated and then it appeared that we were forgot about. Once we inquired if we had a waiter or waitress we were served promptly. And the waitress that we had was excellent. We come to your restaurant for our friend Christmas dinner annually and always enjoy ourselves. Merry Christmas to all the staff.
We have chosen the Sawmill for several birthday dinners. As usual, the last time, the hostess was polite, the server (Lockhart) very attentive and the food extremely good. Our reservation time was met with no waits or delays. Our drinks were served without delay. Appetizers and main courses were served at appropriate intervals to allow us to enjoy the appetizer without our main course sitting on the table getting cold. It was an overall enjoyable experience. We will in the future return and definitely will recommend the restaurant to anyone who would like to enjoy a relaxing dining experience where they have a varied menu from which to make their selections and can also enjoy quiet conversation.
We had a very good experience for our first time at this location. Food was good. Food was brought out weird. One side of the table was served and then 10 minutes later the other side of the table was served. Server was polite. For such a large party 15, overall was happy with the experience. Would definitely recommend to others.
Just a bit expensive . 85$ for 2 adults and one child . Husband only ate his steak on his plate . Sides need an up grade (fancier veggies like asparagus with bacon on them or like whole baby carrots , etc .... ) Neptune seafood steak topper was like a slap of mash potatoes on top of steak . Menu makes it sound more desirable then it really is . Expected recognizable food not mystery . Garnish on the plate .(parsley ,green olives/pickles. Etc , squirt of gravy on the plate ) For a 40$ plate a little more jazz . Love the idea of sawmill steak sauce brought to table . But little unhygienic. Some one could tant the bottles . I do hope that you guys will do a little up grade to your menus . Time for a small change
The last few trips here have not been a great experience. The prime rib was way over done and somewhat tough, my wife's chicken was dry (she said it tasted like it was reheated leftovers), and the gravy for fries and mashed potatoes is downright disgusting. We had a large party (6 adults and 5 kids) and there was a lot of grumbling about the food being below par.
The service was not spectacular either. She did a decent job of dealing with a large table and 4 young kids, but she did forget drinks a couple times and never did come to ask me how my prime rib was (a no-no in a steak/prime rib restaurant!). I had to ask for things a couple times (horseradish) and I waited a long time for her to come back to ask for my drink refill (which she forgot to deliver until asked again).
Now, if we're talking about a $10-$15 meal, the expectations are lower, but for - what should be - an upper-tier restaurant with $35+ entrees, this is not good. I've found that the quality has been declining steadily over the last several months and it is to the point where I don't want to go anymore. Personally, I'd rather go to the Keg where I always have a great experience and they go out of their way to ensure your visit is good.
We celebrated my nephews birthday! It was a very enjoyable meal. The wait staff was amazing, very attentive but not overbearing. The food was awesome. we even asked to speak to the chef to let him know. I think sometimes in general people can be too picky. I would challenge anyone giving a negative review to try on the other shoe for a day. Thank You for a Great Evening!
There were three of us dining, and we all had steaks that were to be cooked medium well.
Mine was a bit undercooked, my wife's was sent back three times, and our daughters was rare when she got to the last few bites. My wife was offered a free dessert to take home, but after that many times of returning the meal, there should have been some better compensation.
The server was great and was very apologetic.
