Sawmill - Edmonton West Ratings and Reviews
I was disappointed that the salad bar is only with the buffet. I wanted prime rib but no salad bar so we had the buffet that was not bad but less than previous visits. I did not see that the 15% tip was included and tipped the waitress again and she said nothing. Will not be returning to this location again and will inform friends of the difference in the food value.
The food, ambiance and service were all very, very good but my evening was ruined when I chipped a tooth by biting on something hard in the stuffed pork from the hot buffet. I informed my server and the manager of what had happened. Both were genuinely concerned and my meal was covered which I appreciated. All that said, I've eaten at a few different Sawmill locations and have always thoroughly enjoyed myself. I can only assume that this was a totally rare and random occurrence and I certainly won't hesitate to visit this location again.
We had a wonderful server who was very attentive, but not intrusive. The food was very good. I had a Caesar salad with chicken and my friend had the steak benedict. They serve breakfast on Saturdays from 11, and the brunch on Sunday is especially good. Great value on the weekday lunch buffet as well.
We visited the Sawmill in West Edmonton on 170th St.
We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and waited 10 minutes before anyone greeted us. Then, although there were only 2 tables that were occupied, the hostess disappeared to check on our table. When she returned, she offered a terse apology but indicated she had to take a phone call. It was not clear if the call was business or personal. When we were seated the waiter was cheerful and friendly but through the evening as more tables were seated we had to continually flag down various staff to get additional drinks etc. The Monday special was Steak and Lobster and although the price was reasonable, the food was lousy. Tasteless lobster and we had to request the melted butter that should have accompanied the meal. The butter had a bad garlic taste and the steak was, at best, mediocre.
Overall, we received extremely poor value and will certainly not return and will recommend that friends and family do not dine here.
Service was atrocious. Took business clients there. Waiter asked us for drinks and I asked if anyone in group of 10 wanted wine. He came back and I said 6 of us wanted to share bottle of wine but he never asked anyone else if they wanted a drink. I didn't notice until 20 minutes later. He told me he assumed everyone else was good. After the meal, he never asked us if we wanted coffee or dessert. We waited 45 minutes and my guests started to leave. He finally came by and asked if I wanted the bill. Good thing there is an auto-gratuity for big groups. It wouldn't have been as good as the 15% they took.
Not happy with the service on Friday evening. Restaurant was not busy (2 other tables at the time). Kitchen burnt the buns, so we had to wait an additional 10 minutes to get new buns. Order was taken by waitress, but she forgot to put it in the system, so my daughter's meal arrived 10 minutes after ours did. Not very impressed with the evening.
We chose the buffet dinner. Many of the food dishes were empty and were never refilled. The roast beef was very tough and chewy. Noticed the cutter was cutting the meat with the grain. Should be against the grain. Overall Father's Day experience 2017 was sub par to our previous visits there. Disappointed...
Took father and husband here for father's day brunch buffet.
Overall was good; food was delicious and decent variety for brunch; (salad, typical breakfast fare-[eggs, sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, eggs Benedict], but also shrimp eggs benedict, salmon in sauce-yummy, omelette bar, then carved roast & ham, pasta, plus desserts). the only thing hubby missed was his toast but ate his fill with everything else.
Service was ok, not spectacular but not awful either. The environment is what it is; set up on 3 levels so if stairs not your thing may not want and somewhat tight quarters as not very roomy where buffet was set up. That we didnt mind at all for our purposes but did make the line ups for omelette station and rest of food awkward. For value food and service and price was $30 per person, it was good.
That was my 3rd time at this Sawmill location, I will return again for buffets as this seems to be a strength thus far though think I was overcharged for my tween (full adult price) I didnt complain as my parents got a senior discount so balanced itself.
I had made the booking indicating that it was for a birthday celebration, but it was never acknowledged by the staff ( host, server or assistants). The table beside us were gracious & offered our daughter a Happy Birthday as they were leaving and we didn't even know them or otherwise converse with them. So still can't figure out why the restaurant staff didn't even say anything. In terms of food, those who had the prime rib were pleased as it was very tender and tasty. For other dishes we had, beware that any modifications/substitutions to what is on menu comes with an up- charge.
Was seated 25 mins after my reservation time while 2 old couples walked in and were seated without reservations. Ordered a 44 dollar steak medium rare and came out well done with the wrong sides. The waiter was nowhere to be found, it took almost half an hour for my second beer to come and another half hour for the proper steak to come out. All in all it took over an hour and a half to get a proper steak and 2 beers. Never coming back, and was the only time in my life I didn't tip. Very disappointing
Dinner out in a casual setting -- It had been a few years since I last had dinner there and felt that it was now more casual than expected. The atmosphere and set up with a food buffet option was a surprise being it was a weekday evening. I had only seen this done for Sunday lunches. However I was then hoping that they still had the salad bar with the menu items, but found I had to chose between having the buffet or if chosing a menu item having to also order the side salad. Those who ordered off the menu thought the food was good. For those who chose the buffet, it had great salad and dessert items, the main course items were limited and some seemed only luke warm (e.g. gravy and roast beef). I would probably visit again, but now with a tempered expectations.
Loud, I made a reservation with note saying we had children and the table that was reserved for us was in lounge where no children were allowed.
We were sat down 30 min after the reservation time, ordered food and it took over 50 minutes for our food to arrive after ordering. During that time our drinks were refilled 0 times.
Food arrive and it was great, but not worth the 2hours we ended up spending at the restaurant.
