We were literally one of 3 parties in the whole restaurant. Really felt rushed and that the server was acting like he was rushing through the whole service, as if the place was packed. Wish it was a little more personable experience, but the food was decent.
Chris, the restaurant manager, was very friendly and attentive over the course of our dinner.
Good service and everything but no beef ribs
I’m sorry, I’m not coming back. The service was not good, I stood at the front door for 10 minutes before anybody even noticed I was there, as nice and friendly as the waiter was, he was hard of hearing. My friends meal had to be sent back because it was gristle not beef. There was a baby screaming and carrying on, it was an all around failure.
We went for my sister’s birthday dinner with the family. The food was delicious and served in a timely manner. All of our steaks were cooked perfectly. It was nice and quiet evening since it was a Sunday evening. We ordered desert for my sister’s birthday and rhe chocolate cake was devine. As we were leaving we noticed the staff bringing out a birthday desert and singing for another customer. I thought huh, my sister did not get that, although I checked off Birthday on the reservation. Overall good evening.
Wonderful service at brunch on a busy Thanksgiving weekend. Our server was incredibly attentive as well as the manager. They each took the time speak to our children as well. The food was incredible. I dream about the waffles and sticky toffee pudding. Will definitely make it a tradition to go every year for brunch on Thanksgiving weekend. Well done!
My wife and I dined at the Sawmill Capilano on Saturday Oct 6, 2018. We had an excellent meal...the Turkey Dinner. It was very tasty and served hot! The service was exceptional, great waiter...(of course I cannot recall his name.) We had wine and dessert as well. Overall an outstanding experience. Front end staff also very friendly and helpful.
Chris our server (manager) was very pleasant, good was good
I’ve been here a lot. I was disappointed this visit. The service was terrible (it wasn’t that busy) and the salad bar was really lacking.
Ordered our dinner , had specific meal requirements, everything I asked not to be on my burger was on it not once but twice after them remaking it. Was asked if I still wanted my meal by the waitress when they redid it. Felt it was not a question that should have been asked as the person I was having dinner with had her food. Managed wrote off both our meals but has so many excuses I was embarrassed for him. Lack of customer service and poor communication between server and kitchen . Am not planning on going back. Was not the quality of Sawmill restaurants I have been too before
Very pleased with the evening. My food was the best I’ve had for awhile.
Great job. I-will definitely be recommending your restaurant.
The food and the service was excellent! I wish it wasn't so expensive, but the food was very good. I would gladly dine there again.
The service was friendly and accommodating. Our only complaint or words of advice is to better space the time between the initial drinks, appetizers and main course. Never bring out the main meal while the customer is still in the middle of the appy's. But overall a good experience, clean surroundings and friendly staff. We'd be coming back - thanks
Its not that exceptional but we did had a wonderful experience for a family with kids celebrating a birthday. A very good service may I say and they do have a kids menu whichnis not in their website and a bit pricey too. Overall it was a good eat.
Excellent table and very good waiter. Prime ribs not the usual standard for the Sawmill. The meat was tough and not flavorful. The spaghetti squash was excellent!
The Sawmill has always been a "go to place" but not this time. We were there with friends celebrating wedding anniversaries. The 'private' area we were in was so dark we needed our cell phones to light up the menus. Not sure about our friends' food but our soup didn't taste like calm chowder and the Caesar salad had little taste and no zip at all. The added steak was so overcooked it was almost crispy and chewy. One of our guests had her hand burnt when the severer gave her the plate instead of placing it in front of her. Waiter was always interrupting our conversations and when ordering trying to second guess our ordering choices. What should have been a nice relaxed evening of fun and good food ended up being neither.
Our server, Sanjay, was outstanding for attentiveness; he was also thoroughly knowledgeable with the menu, and recommended the surf and turf for my spouse and myself - it turned out to be an excellent recommendation! We also loved our hostess - what a remarkable intuitive young lady. We plan to return since the food was delicious, the ambience conducive to family bonding, and the service attentive and thorough.
Waitress took my not empty beer twice we were there to watch a football game and the volume was so low that we could hear the people at the bar over the TV.we asked 3 times to turn up the volume and so they did full blast for a few minutes. The prizes that they gave away we like a chore,it seemed that it was just something they had to do. We were not impressed!. We were looking for someplace new and exciting to watch the Eskimoes, boy were we wrong.
The buns was fresh out of the oven. The prime rib came fast and was soft and perfectly cooked. The Yorkshire pudding was crisp outside with a tender centre. I can eat this every Sunday!
Very enjoyable evening, food and service was great. Will return again.
All of the food was prepared ver well. We ordered our dinner when we ordered the appetizers and the main dishes came out rather quickly after the appetizers were done. would order the main dishes after the appetizers were done next time. It felt a little rushed. But the food was excellent.
Great service and food, our waiter was fantastic and made the night enjoyable
I love this sawmill. We won't go to any other one. Even for brunch on sundays. Customer service is the best in the city
We live in the neighborhood and have been here a few times now and it is always a good experience. The service is always great and the food consistently good. This particular trip was by far our best visit to date! My husband and I both ordered the prime rib as it was the special that night and it was cooked to perfection. I also ordered a side lobster tail that was some of the best lobster I've ever had. Thank you guys for a perfect date night dinner experience!
Diner was great afterwards went to the lounge I did not realize until after what my bill was, it was half price wine night and I thought also glasses I ordered a glass that was three dollars cheaper then a bottle a good server wood have recommended that and told us we could have took the rest of our wine home.
We had an entertaining waiter. You may also get a personal song from the singing manageress.
Always a reliable place to get great beef and it's nice to see a broad selection of beers on tap
Great service. Diverse menu. Good ambiance in a comfortable settung.
Food was cold service was slow (our waitress came by 3 times in 2 hours) hostess came by to see how we were enjoying our dining experience as my wife found hair on her plate lol
Robbie Burns Day at the Capilano Sawmill arranged by Miss Rosie (Manager of Capilano Sawmill). Although, we didn't make dinner reservations with the knowledge there would be "Men in Kilts", we had the pleasure of having Bruno as our competent and prompt waiter. Bruno's service was impeccable. While we dined, the "Men in Kilts" (thank you Rosie!) were eloquently piping haggis from the dining side to the lounge as several large tables were being seated, the thought does run through your mind . . . oh, oh, how is the service going to be with all the distractions? Well, I promise you Bruno does not disappoint; his attention to detail, polite query regarding the food's preparation and it's temperature then casually refreshing our drinks all while managing the other large parties. Samjay and Bruno make the dining experience feel like your dining with people much more enjoyable than family. It is evident that Rosie has what it takes to make a team and mentor the atmosphere at this establishment. I need to discuss the food we ordered the seafood and steak combo which included a choice of salad or soup and dessert. We each selected an opposite dish to try each. I ordered the baked potato soup. Seriously, this delicious concoction could quite possibly have been made in my own Grandmother's kitchen. The soup's texture, aroma, temperature and taste accompanied by sprinkles of green onion and bacon were possible why I made it through the gruelling work week just to get this soup in front of me. I could have ordered the cauldron and skipped everything else. The salad was crisp, cold and fresh with a balsamic vinaigrette to compliment the cranberries, goat cheese and walnuts. Wait! Our steak and seafood were on they're way! Grilled to perfection, savory and juicy the steak was a perfect size, accompanied by the baked potatoes (I know, I know) and butter roasted root veggies. The chocolate bread pudding made me forget the baked potato soup.
I had a business lunch meeting at the Sawmill and the staff made the experience better. They setup our group in a semi private room which allowed for great discussions. The food was amazing as always. I'm never disappointed with the quality of the food at the Sawmill.
We have dined here a number of times and always enjoy, however our last visit was not our best. We were here on Jan 14th, a Saturday night. It was fairly quite and the staff was superb, our waitress took care of our little guy for a little bit so that the parents could eat in peace for a few minutes, she kept drinks full, and was attentive. However it was the food that was a little disappointing. There were 6 of us dining. 4 ordered the prime rib, 2 of them were okay and the other 2 were WAY overdone. One person even said that it hurt to chew it was so overdone - and it was supposed to be medium-rare. My ribeye was ordered to be medium-rare, and it was very rare.. it was quite late so we did not complain at the time. I just hope next time is much better.
We hadn't been there in probably 15 years and were very surprised how good everything was. Will definitely go back.
Sanjay was our server and he was very good about accommodating our 'special' food requests. We also had a wonderful private table for old friends to get together and talk for some time. It was an awesome dining experience and I will keep coming to this particular location of the Sawmill.
Table was fantastic, right by the fireplace. Server was good, she got our sense of humour quickly.
Food was okay. Steaks were undercooked. veggies were very interesting
Sawmill at Capilano is one of our favourite Sunday Brunch venues. We decided to combine a birthday and New Years Day celebration and it did not dissappoint. We were greeted warmly by the Hostess and encouraged to participate in the celebration by wearing free hats and crowns...such fun. It was well organized and there were no long lines. The food, as usual, was excellent with a varied and tempting selection. Special mention for the delightful little lady at the Fresh Omelet station...delicious. The beef ribs and roasted root vegetables were wonderful. Our favourite Sticky Toffee Pudding was the crowning glory. Bruno, our server, was charming and engaging with us and all of his customers. We were treated to a delightful banter between Bruno and his Manager which left us impressed with their dedication to making our visit special. We enjoyed a glass of lovely champagne along with Bruno's attentive but not hovering service. We left feeling that this was a very nice start to 2017.
New Year's Day
We were there Sunday New Year's Day brunch. Very good. We were seated in the lounge instead of the dining room, kinda made us feel like we weren't good enough for the dining room. But as time went on, more people were seated in the lounge, must have been over flow..
The food was very good. Will definitely go again.
