Sawa Restaurant & Lounge opened with a contemporary Mediterranean & Japanese dual-concept cuisine in early 2010 in the beautiful upscale Shops at Merrick Park.
The menu tells a story of where the East meets the Far East and dishes span the realm of tapas, kebabs, and sushi. In fact, Sawa means "Togetherness" in Arabic and "Harmony" in Japanese, a perfect key to Sawa's concept of bringing together seemingly separate cuisine elements into one great menu meant to be enjoyed and shared by everyone.
While in business, Sawa has earned numerous awards and recognition for its posh and romantic ambiance, creative cocktails, eclectic cuisine, and chic lounge atmosphere.
Entertainment is also an integral part of Sawa's story, focusing on an upscale dinnertainment concept as dinner guests are enchanted by live professional bellydance shows every weekend while they dine under the stars.

Sawa Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant is in a good location and have a great menu with fair price options. However the service is not their strength, we went there with my husband, the hostess wasn't at her desk an we waited like 10min for her to come back and sit us... apparently nobody else is allow to sit you, then we ordered our drinks, but somehow the couple that arrived after us and had a different server got their drinks and food while we were still waiting for our drinks and nobody had taken of food order yet. Service needs to improve and they would be a great restaurant all around.
We ordered appetizers and main courses. We also ordered a round of drinks. after the drinks arrived we never saw our server again until our main courses arrived. Our apps were not delivered until after we got our main courses and we had finished our drinks well before our main courses came but could not get a second round while we waited for our meals.
This would have been a 5 star review except I ordered the grilled octopus as appetizer and the waiter came back to say they were out. I settled for the fried calamari and was disappointed, they were completely flavorless. My fiancé ordered the lamb lollipops and they were so delicious we wished it were an entree. His steak (Ribeye I think) was also very good and so was the Alaskan Roll I ordered. Also, the dancer was entertaining even though she only came out once.
Like to bring out of town guests here as the mediterranian/sushi menu means that, usually, everyonce can find something. As always the food and service were excellent.
We had a cold snap in the weather and they called us a head of time to see if we preferred inside seating over the, usual, outside seating. We appreciated the opportunity to sit inside and that they planned a head.
This is one of our favorite restaurants.
Food was delicious as usual however the steak yakitori was not very hot- must have been sitting a while before it was served. The patatas bravas with short ribs was delicious and could have been a meal by itself. We went during happy hour and it was an Overall good value for the food.
I have been to Sawa many times and always enjoyed the atmosphere, food and friendly staff.
Unfortunately this evening was terrible. I had made a reservation to sit outside. The hostess put us at a back table next to 4 people smoking a hookah and blowing it in our faces. We asked to be moved to another table away from The smokers. The hostess then seated us and we realized again we were next to hookah smoking. The third time I mentioned an empty table with no smoking around. The hostess got very nasty and told us it was reserved. Well we also reserved a table, she didn’t want us sitting there and told us if we didn’t like the smoking not to come to the restaurant, as they were a hookah restaurant. We were getting ready to leave when a gentleman came over who may have been a manager and gave us the empty table.
The hostess was so rude I don’t think I will ever return. What a shame
They need to put all the hookah smoking in one area.
We had 3 appetizers, the Yakitori, was dry and room temperature, the shrimp avocado summer roll, was almost shrimpless, tasteless and the vegetables inside it looked burned by the cold of refrigeration and not fresh at all. The shrimp pao bun, was hard as a rock on one side, obviously made many hours before. The miso filet mignon was 2 or 3 pieces of a filet, cooked medium as requested, it tasted good and was tenter, but it arrived with ultra burned Brussel sprouts, almost inedible, and not with the shishito peppers and pistachios it mentioned on the menu. The lamb kebab was cooked to order and tasted great. The chocolate soufflé, could have been anything but a soufflé, it was a hard gooey mixture of something very sweet and also arrived without the pistachio ice cream mentioned on the menu. The music was incredibly loud inside and outside at times. Service was amicable, timely and proper.
My first visit here. Just needed a small Mid afternoon snack. I ordered the vegetarian stuffed grape leaves and they were delicious I’ve made the authentic Greek ones and I think I like these even better. My husband had the risotto and he loved it. We will return.
Generally very good.
If eating indoors best to avoid Friday's with a very raucous scene by the bar. The placement of the bar area in the restaurant was not well thought out as its in the way of everybody going around including the wait staff.
But the food is very good nonetheless and innovative.
My husband and I had dinner at Sawa and we loved this restaurant! We sat at an outdoor table which was very nice because we had a view of the lovely fountain at Merrick Park. Although it was a little hot and humid outside, the restaurant has fans and we had one right next to us. We chose our entrees from the Miami Spice menu and everything was excellent. We had the hummus platter as an appetizer, filet mignon with brussel sprouts and banana rolls with ice cream for dessert! We would definitely recommend this restaurant! Excellent service and food!
Although our server was kind and friendly , he was not attentive. I'm not sure if they were understaffed but didn't seem so, so not sure why he would come around every 15-20 minutes. Our dining experience lasted 2.5 hours. The timing of the dishes coming out was horrific. Medium rare meat was beyond well done, pork chops stiff. Not sure if we were just unlucky today but probably will not return.
