Sawa Asian Bistro- Hibachi Grill
Food was great and service was good!
This restaurant has potential but is not being run properly and not enough proper personal. I had a 7pm reservation for nine and we were all there and soon sat down taking one Habachi grill with just our party. The next grill over, who arrived after us and was a mixture of two parties were served before us. We in fact waited over 1 hour before they started to cook in front of us. It seems like they wanted to ensure we spent plenty of money on drinks as some of us had two to three drinks before having someone cook in front of us.
The chef was tired and really did not do anything out of the ordinary to make this an exciting experience and something that would bring us back. Overall it was an experience but one I hope I never have to live through again.
It was excellent food. Our hibachi cook was somewhat interactive.
Overall, I was happy with the experience! Food was delicious, service was okay. My only complaint was that I had made a reservation for 6:15 and we weren’t sat until about 6:45. (What’s the point in a reservation?) Was fun though, hibachi’s have great atmospheres!
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and amazing staff! It was the perfect place for my sister's birthday celebration!
The chef could have been more engaging and entertaining.
It was weird that the host asked me to call for reservation next time... hmmm
Vibrant atmosphere! Delicious filet and rice! The salad was yummy but the soup was no more than a glorified broth. Disappointed that there were not more ice cream flavors. Drinks were yummy too!
We all had a great time. The only negative was the saki bottle was not used enough 2 second burst.
The sushi was delicious. I got the lobster tail and chicken teriyaki stir fry. It was good, but I found the lobster to be a bit overcooked. I would go back but I would not run back.
Large group for Christmas and going away party. First our meals had been badly over cooked. All the steaks had been requested med rare or med and everything was well done. Someone’s Salmon was way over done, not editable. When the bill came they didn’t charge us for everyone’s dinner so I told them and then they over charged us for 3 extra meals. The cook was not entertaining at all, Over all this was the worst experience I have had and most likely will not be returning.
We had 8 pm News Years Eve reservation. We arrived early had a drink at the bar, they were quick to fill your drink order. Our name was called before 8, very surprised and happy. The place was busy but they were filling tables. I was afraid they would be trying to get you through dinner quickly, but definitely not the case. We enjoyed an appetizer and drink first. The chef was good and the food delicious.
This restaurant definitely knew how to handle New Year’s Eve!
Always a wonderful time! Great service and food!
Xmas Day lunch with my grandma. We had a 12 pm reservation and it was almost empty when we arrived. Had hibachi, which was good. Salmon and swordfish. Chef was good and we were a quiet audience.
One appetizer was ordered that took a LONG time to come. Despite the emptiness, the service wasn’t attentive for drink refills, removing soup bowls, salad bowls, etc.
Price was reasonable. Nice space and probably great for a date or any other special get together.
It was very rushed. We went for my daughter’s 18th birthday and our waitress came over with a drummer and ice cream to sing to her while we were still eating dinner. It wasn’t crowded so I’m not sure why they were in such a hurry for us to be done.
Very smoky if you sit in Hibachi place - food was average and sushi didn’t seem fresh
Good food, good service, plenty of free parking and a good value. Most of the Asian cuisine are available, so there is something for everyone.
Bar was sizable, especially helpful when waiting for all eleven in our party to show up. Food was good. Service was good. Chef was good. Prices were on the high side for a hibachi combination meal and special sushi rolls, but the quality of the food was good. Ambiance was fair, but nothing special. It was clean though. Hibachi table room was quite loud, with little to no sound dampening in the room. I know it’s more challenging to clean, but most places I’ve been have some carpeting that helps deaden, or at least soften and keep some of the clatter sounds from traveling so far. The usual “show”, especially when twirling and tapping the spatula and fork together and on the grill, could be heard clearly from each table across the room. Particularly since there were many tables grouped closely together (and the table where we sat, far too close to the front window), it was very hard to hear and hold a conversation with people more than one seat away from you, particularly for those people at the far ends of the table. The unsweetened iced tea tasted off, and not at all like freshly brewed tea. The meal was good, but the premium pricing, didn’t quite fit the less than full-on premium experience. Overall, 3.66 out of 5 stars.
Fun and entertaining hibachi experience with skilled grill master. Food excellent for our entire party of 6. Will be back.
Great night out!
Family in town. Always great food and entertaining experience with the chef
Mixed drinks were watered down but I returned mine and the Marini was nice
We are local to Sawa and have been here many time. This particular instance we went with our family from England that was visiting, a group of 9. I specifically stated Fathers Day and my Aunts 50th Birthday in the reservation. The lady getting our drinks was fine, but our chef was horrible. He didn’t say one word to us or interact with the group other than reviewing our entree selections when I arrived. We were all very disappointed. My husband and I was quite embarrassed at dinner to take our relatives to a place so disappointing, when all day we were raving about how much fun it would be. Taking 9 people to a restaurant and paying over $350 for such a horrible experience is not where and how I want to spend my money. And the chef got a auto-gratuity of 20% he didn’t deserve. We will definitely be looking for another hibachi place.
Everything was perfect from the service, drinks, food, appetizers, and timeliness.
We had the opportunity to dine with my book club on a Thursday evening. The group of 12 was easily accommodated with all of our meals, including a couple of meal from the hibachi grills. We were able to enjoy our delicious dinner and drinks while discussing our monthly read for the group. Everything was delicious and our waiter handled the large party seamlessly, including separate checks for each dinner. We will be back again, for sure.
The lobster was prepared with teriyaki sauce. The server should ask ahead of time if you want it. I felt a bit rushed for the $.
Great atmosphere. Only downside was that since my husband and I were a group of two with an 8:30 reservation we had to wait almost an hour for our chef to start cooking and other guests to be seated.
Made reservations for 7:30pm and was not seated until 8:15. If I walked in we would have been seated quicker! They did give us free apps for the inconvenience but it was truly uncalled for. It’s not an isolated incident because it happened to us at another party weeks prior.
Always a favorite!
Great food, fun presentation, and perfect for a birthday celebration!
Had a 6:30 reservation on a Saturday night, and only got seated at 6:55, which was frustrating. The scorpion bowl was delicious! The food was also excellent. The soup was the only mediocre thing about the meal.
Best Hibachi in Shrewsbury and the surrounding area!
The waiter could have been more attentive
We go frequently. It's convenient and has excellent food, plus the 'show' (the Hibachi grill cooking.)
Although we had a reservation for a specific time for 14 people, it took a while to get seated. (Only two people were not there at the scheduled time) We felt they made us wait too long for our table. Once we were seated, things started to get better. Drinks did take a while to get to us at first but as the night went on this also got better. The food was great, the chefs were very accommodating to special request for meal prep (hibachi) and we were entertained with saki and catching food in our mouths. Our server was bending over backwards to keep us all happy. Over all, we had a wonderful get together and a wonderful experience.
Beautiful decor. 2nd round of drinks took a while but the drinks where good I would definitely go again the food was amazing
Our waitress was kind of unfriendly and she only brought half of the table soup and the other half of the table salad. The chef was not very interactive. When I tried to pay with American Express gift card I was told that it was declined. Had no problem using it elsewhere.
We went here for NYE eve and luckily we had a reservation. It was extremely busy but we were seated quickly. The food is always great here and so is the service. My only complaint was that it was absolutely freezing in the restaurant. Most of our table (7 people) had a jacket or scarf on!
My experience at sawa overall was about 3stars. While I understand I had a rather large party on New Years the manager In the dining area was extremely rude. Before even being sat at our hibachi station he berated us yelling " ONE CHECK ONE CHECK ONE CHECK". Claiming he spoke to me on the phone about it when I clearly used open table to reserve it. The hibachi chefs weren't very interactive and spilled rice and sauce in our drinks when plating some of our guests foods. Aside from the manager the food was great. Get the posideon roll, it's worth it. I would go again for the sushi but not the service.
Food was bland overpriced
Asked for no sauces on anything and they still included
