Sava's Restaurant, originally Sava's State Street Cafe, opened June of '07 at a small location across from our current space. We started small, every year adding, changing, and working with our customers to achieve an atmosphere and menu that we were proud of. The quaint cafe was merely a jumping off point for the elaborate expansion that later followed. In August of '09 we opened Sava's Restaurant in the beautiful location we're in today, making a name for ourselves based on great service, a young, welcoming atmosphere, & delicious dishes.
We cater to a wide range of clientele, including students, professors, townies, out-of-towners – we open our doors to everyone. From our eclectic menu our best dishes are homemade, with quality ingredients from local vendors. We like Michigan beef, produce, and beer! Join us and experience Sava's for yourself!

Sava's Ratings and Reviews
I have been to savas many times. Sadly, this time was very disappointing. Our waiter told us that they are upgrading their menu. This was disappointing because there was not many options on the menu that they had. I ordered a sandwich and when it came out, it looked like an appetizer. It was very small. I was disappointed because I use to love coming to savas for a good meal but this time wasn’t it. I hope when the upgraded menus come out, I will be willing to go back but for right now, I’m not planning on going back.
We went to to Sava's to celebrate my friend's birthday. As I am from Cape Town, South Africa it was my first time ever visiting Sava's. Oh man! I just loved from the entrance to the whole ambiance of the place, the energy of and friendly disposition of the waiter, the well-prepared food, etc.... In fact, we all simply looooooved everything about the place and will certainly be back! Keep up the good work☺☺
Excellent service, our waiter was attentive, helpful, and nice. The Bistro omelette was delicious and would highly recommend. My friend got the sweet potato latkes which were very tasty. We had a seat upstairs overlooking the downstairs and it was very lovely.
We went for lunch on a Sunday early afternoon before a show at the Michigan Theater. Luckily we made a reservation in advance as they were quite busy. Very friendly staff greeted us at the hostess stand, and our server was just delightful, very friendly and accommodating. All three of us had to decide between several options that all sounded wonderful. As busy as they were, we were finished in plenty of time to make our show on time. I would definitely go back (to try some of the things we didn't order!), and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sava's to friends.
We took our son (student at U of M) for a late dinner. Very interesting menu and everything we ordered (fish tacos, burger, Greek salad with salmon) was very good with large portions. Bang bang shrimp app was delicious too. Nice quiet place to talk and good service. Highly recommend.
Nice setting and atmosphere. But service, just ok. Water in our glasses had nets in both. Since staff wasn't writing down orders, several mistakes were made. My partners was offered refills but I wasn't, not once. The menu wasn't explained very well. But I might give another try, with different server, could've been very enjoyable.
Very disappointed with the overall experience. There were knats and fruit flies flying around the entire meal which were flying into our food and drinks. The waitress dismissed the bugs and said that it was because of the changing of the weather and said that other restaurants were experiencing the same thing. As if this weren’t enough, the sandwiches which are $12-16 do not even come with a side. Instead, you have to buy sides for an extra $5-7. Both sandwiches we had were mediocre at best and not worthy of another chance. Sorry to say we will not be back. Yeah
I’ve been going to Sava’s for the last five years when I visit Ann Arbor and had always enjoyed the menu and he food. On my last visit it seemed the menu had been downgraded and was not the same restaurant I had visited before. Coming from New York City I was always confident that Savas would provide an excellent meal (and a gluten sensitive one, since my son has Celiac disease). On this visit I felt it was an entirely different resteraunt - it had gone from a 5 star to a two as far as the food goes. Service was, as always wonderful.
Food was ok this time, but it has been better. Our waitress went awol for a bit so service wasn’t good. I had hoped Mac and cheese would have been better but it was very average. I’d think twice before going there again, especially with so many options to choose from.
Lively, airy restaurant with friendly and efficient service. Hippie bowl with tempeh was outstanding and priced fairly. French toast was like eating fried sugar. With all that sugar for the main course, no need to have dessert. But they did sound good. Will definitely return.
