So disappointed. This restaurant looks very appealing and it's right in our neighborhood. However not only did the food take more than 1 1/2 hours to get put on the table--after 45 minutes when we asked we were told that the pork chop takes 40 minutes would have been nice to have been told that. It wasn't particularly busy so I am not sure what the kitchen issue was. When it did get there, mine was inedible. A pork chop so overcooked it was like sawing wood and everything very heavily salted. We had to ask several times just to get water. We just asked for the billl and called it a night
When we got the bill from a very apologetic server who offered us free dessert, etc. , it was for the wrong items--my husband was billed for salmon ($24) not jerk chicken ($20). By that time we just wanted out, it so stuffy and airless. What a pity. We won't be back
Although the atmosphere is lovely and the service was good to a point… We waited at least an hour to an hour and a half for the chef to cook my steak properly. I ordered a medium well steak and I got a raw steak the first time and a mostly raw steak the second time the third time she made a whole new steak that was just OK.
Very disappointing - I was looking forward to bring my children to this restaurant but now I will not!
Sausalido is a great restaurant for food. We got a couple of appetizers and I got the risotto which was a huge portion. All of the food was delicious and expertly prepared. The service was excellent and very friendly. There was a good mix of people there. NOT hipster which I liked. The only thing was the ambiance. The decor is very faux looking. It's not the best lighting and just a general sense that they went cheap on the decor. But that would not stop me from going back for the food. It is worth it. The prices are reasonable and it's byob which keeps the cost down as well.
Overall : Excellent
Perfect little date spot or great place for a fancier dinner at a reasonable price!
The food was very good. My only complaint is the noise level became increasing loud as the restaurant filled with people and it became difficult to hear what my dining companion was saying.
The food is amazing everything is fresh the menu is always changing no complaints here I love the food! And good service!
Sausalido is a fantastic hidden gem perfect for date night. It’s BYOB, which we are a fan of. The staff is very friendly and knows the menu well. Our waitress provided great insight to popular dishes and her favorites. I had a 16oz bone-in pork chop that was cooked perfectly. The setting has a rustic feel in an intimate space which overall gives off a homey feel. The owner is extremely friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended!
These people are so warm and accommodating, always seeking to make sure your dining experience is great. The food is really good! I have been here a half dozen times at least and will return. Amy
I had requested a vegan meal when I reserved. The waitress was already aware and asked my preferences and spoke to the chef. The chef came to the table and spoke to me.also, and was so nice and accommodating. She seemed excited to create something for me and also adapted an appetizer to make it vegan. Everything was delicious, both my meal and those who chosen meals from the menu. Everyone was so nice and friendly also. It was a wonderful experience and I hope to go back again soon!
The staff was friendly and attentive but food delivery was spotty and a little uneven. The food however was fantastic and well worth this minor issue. I had the seared tuna that was paired with a warm slaw that was out of the world. Deserts were delicious, we got one of each and shared. Hats off to Nick the owner for a great evening with friends.
Very accommodating
Everything was great, as usual, except that the restaurant had “run out” of 3 of the 9 main course items on the menu by only 8PM on Saturday night.
They finally sat us at our table 45 minutes after our reservation, after we went in and asked multiple times if our table was ready. Ultimately, we were told that they forgot to come and get us whenever it was ready. Then they had ran out of ice and we finally received some 1 hour into our meal. When we ordered, several people wanted the salmon dish, which was sold out and no one told us until we asked for it. Although the food was good, I'm not sure that I will ever be returning. They seemed to be extremely short staffed and not prepared to handle the small crowd that they had that night.
Great food and service. Katelyn was our server. She was very nice and accommodating. Delicious salmon , pork chop, and zucchini.
Awesome experience!
Mother’s Day
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. It's very small and cozy, and the atmosphere is perfect - a friendly neighborhood feel. It has a small menu that changes periodically, and the food is delicious. The service is very good. I love that it's BYOB. It helps to make it a great value.
Wife got the delicious pork chop, I had the jerk chicken, the green bean were a little over seasoned. Overall it was a very good meal! We would definitely eat here again
Sausalido is a well kept secret. Worth a try. It is BYOB.
Great and delicious food at reasonable prices. The chef is very consistent and presents the food beautifully. Kate our server is always smiling, efficient and makes the evening fun. This place is a gem.
It was a great restaurant! Every course was outstanding and it had a cool date night vibe.
Found this restaurant trough the entertainment book. We were headed to Heinz Hall for a show. When we arrived, the restaurant was not very full so the service was great. As the restaurant filled, the service went down hill. There seemed to be only 1 waitress for the entire restaurant and she seemed to spend more time with her "regulars". She probably had 8-10 tables working at once..way too many to provide good service. We ordered the Yukon Potatoes as an appetizer and they were excellent. I ordered the crab cakes over cheddar and broccoli risotto. The 2 crab cakes were small, but were definitely more crab than filling. They were excellent. The risotto, however, was very bland..not much flavor. I added some salt, but didn't seem to help. My boyfriend ordered the butternut squash ravioli with a cinnamon, brown sugar sauce. The sauce was so think that it was actually gummy, almost the consistency of a paste . It was too heavy for the ravioli and there wasn't much flavor. When we were ready for our check, it seemed to take quite a long time and once we received it, there was quite a wait for her to come over to pick up the card and return it to us. We had to ask the owner for it. We did tell the owner about the ravioli and seemed appreciative of the feedback and gave us a $10 gift card to return. I don't think we will. We also have friends looking for a spot for a rehearsal dinner and initially thought I'd recommend this restaurant, but I won't based on this experience.
Have used Sausalido catering many times and LOVE it, so I went to have a meal in the restaurant for the first time. The food was good, but not exceptionally good like their catering. The brussel sprouts are usually my favorite when we order catering, but when dining in, they were very bitter and drowning in sauce. The seasonal salad was very good but also drenched in dressing, which made it hard to finish. However, the squash ravioli, pork, and blood orange cheesecake were all really good. We were the first ones in the restaurant at 5:30, but as the restaurant filled up, service slowed down significantly. We finally left at 8:00 after staring down the waitress until she brought us our check. Was a little disappointed with the dine-in experience so will stick to the catering.
Some of the best crab cakes I’ve ever eaten. Everyone enjoyed their meal. BYOB so don’t forget to bring a bottle of wine or some beer. You can buy at the bar across the street but it’s more expensive than a store.
Food was good but disappointed in the service. The server never cleared our appetizer or salad plates prior to serving us dinner, made for a crowded table.
We had a large group of 11 for dinner and we couldn't have picked a better place. They were very accommodating and we were all served our meals at the same time. The fact it is BYOB was also a huge plus and it was fun to share all the wine we brought. Great and friendly service!
I've been to Sausalido multiple times and the food is consistently very good. The fact that it is BYOB is another plus. The menu changes seasonally and therefore, there are opportunities to try different entrees.
I haven't been at there for about a year ad was delighted that the quality is still so high. I definitely recommend it as a great dining place.
Sausalido was packed to the rafters on Saturday yet they still managed with some small waits here and there to be very very good. It was nice to see owner Nick Mineo, who is so involved with their great catering business that we hardly see him in the restaurant, chatting and visiting with patrons. The food was really good and the wait staff pulled off the herculean task of waiting on all those tables, particularly Kate our server. Kudos to all, if you have not visited Sausalido yet you need to soon.
A group of 8 friends dined at Sausalido on Saturday evening. Our reservation was at 7:15, but the table wasn’t ready, so we happily grabbed a drink at the bar next door and were seated around 7:45. The waitress took care of our waters and opening wine bottles, but after that the service went downhill very quickly. It took ages for her to take appetizer orders and then even longer (more than an hour!) to take our entree orders. We sat at 7:45 and our entrees were delivered at 9:45. On a trip to the ladies’ room, I noted that the kitchen was a disaster. The floor was slippery, there was food everywhere. Based on other reviews, I have to believe something went terribly wrong the night of 2/24/18. Sadly, while the food could have been worse, it wasn’t nearly good enough to ever return. Our appetites were gone by that time, but the food looked like it had been sitting around, under a warmer, for way too long. Tasteless and just incredibly disappointing.
Would return for the food and the service. Very unique in its menu.
Sausalido continues to be among our favorites. The food is great and love that it's BYOB--always enjoy our time there!
Excellent food, and it was terrific that we were able to bring in our own wine!
Another great meal at this amazing restaurant. Servers are friendly and accommodating and the owner, Nick, is awesome. Can’t wait to go back!
Very quaint and authentic Italian restaurant. The owner interacted with us and gave us some meatballs on the House (delicious). The fried Gouda is one of the best appetizers I’ve ever had!! Excellent restaurant
Place was good but not great. It was Saturday night and 3 items off of a very limited menu were out. Appetizers were much better than entrees. Best part was that it was BYOB.
My family and I had a wonderful time. We were celebrating my wife's birthday, and the ambiance was perfect for that type of event. The food was fantastic, and so was the service. You can't go wrong at Sausalido.
Good variety on the menu. Love BYOB. Service was great. Food portions are generous.
Love the food especially love the waitress always a good time thank you so much
We went to Salsalido with friends. We all really enjoyed our meal. All of the food tasted fresh and delish. It was a nice small room. Cozy and not all all loud with really bothers me about so many places these days. Our waitress was friendly and food all came quickly. She never made us feel rushed. It was a very nice night out.
