SATO considers itself to be a modern Izakaya (think Japanese tapas and shareable plates) which blends traditional Japanese cuisine with contemporary flare. The menu changes with the seasons and local finds in combination with creative and traditional dishes inspired by Chef Satomi’s culinary roots in Japan. Pair them with the widest selection of premium sake in the Buffalo-Niagara area. The owner Josh is a certified Sake Sommelier.
Along with the smaller plates, ramen and Japanese curry are specialties of the restaurant. Chef Satomi's pork (tonkotsu) and chicken (torigara) based ramen noodles are a tweaked recipe from her family's restaurant in Fukui, Japan.

I love Satos and this is why I chose your restaurant to celebrate my birthday with my family. Problem- we waited 1/2 hour to order and another half hour for our entrees. In addition, four meals were brought out in sequence however my son's meal was forgotten. We had to ask the waitress about his meal. Again, he had to wait while we ate- not cool! The waitress finally came with his entree and said, 'no charge for his meal' ($13). When the bill came, my son's entree clearly billed, unfortunately my son-in-law paid for the entire bill (party of seven) before examing the check. This dinner was part of my birthday gift. When I encouraged him to call the server, he declined. The food was very good, however it was noticable that the restaurant was understaffed. On two occasions, the server dropped and broke glassware- the one incident, glass shattered next to our table nearest to our small grandchildren. Overall, the experience was truly disappointing.
We had excellent food. They appeared short staffed because there was one waitress on for lunch.
Sushi and sashimi are mediocre. Rolls are creative. Ramen is very good. Appetizers are tasty. Craft cocktails are excellent. Would go again, but skip the sushi and sashimi. Very friendly service
The food was fresh but somewhat tasteless. The avocado ingredient needed to ripen.
I have been to Sato many times and always had a good experience. This time was a disappointment because the food was bland. The service was good and welcoming.
The food was tasty and Isabel was lovely. It’s a smaller restaurant, and we were close to a larger party, so it was a little loud at times, but nothing unpleasant. My friend and I enjoyed our meals!
Sushi and Ramen were very good. Also impressed by the mixed drinks
The food was ok. We had the age dashi tofu as the appetizer, then shared the chef’s choice sashimi and the spicy miso ramen. The tofu was not crispy enough on the outside, spicy miso ramen was too salty, sashimi was fine. The orange beer was good. Service was not good, The drinks did not come, we had to ask for them when the food showed up. When we asked for an extra bowl to share the ramen it never came, we had to go get it ourselves. There was not that busy but the waitress did not seem to able to handle. Location is good, decor was cute, rest room was very clean.
Great unique food. I felt a little bit too close to the other tables. But overall I enjoyed the drinks, the food and the waitress was very friendly.
I love Sato!! It’s always soo good when I go there! Our waitress Autumn was super nice too!!
No much flavor to the food. Had the butter Ramien bowl and the spicy tuna roll
This Elmwood Avenue sushi and Japanese place has food ranging from excellent sushi to ramen and similar bowls. It's a neighborhood place, nothing fancy, but friendly, very good value, good service, and one of the two or three best sushi places in Buffalo. It's not far geographically from Kuni's, but a little bigger, and has the advantage of taking reservations.
Great service(thank you Emma!) and fabulous Butter Ramen! Thank you. We’ll be back
Our waiter was new and unable to answer a single question. The gyoza had too much ginger, but was otherwise prepared well. I had the Spicy Miso Ramen -- the stock didn't taste particularly fresh but was otherwise decent. I would go back, but I'm unlikely to recommend the place.
Always a great experience with creative food combinations resulting in interesting flavors. Prompt service. Excellent cocktails with surprising tastes. Bottled water on the table was helpful.
The only question I have is regarding the small water glasses. Refilling was a constant.
Food great as usual. A/c broken and environment is very unpleasant. Service poor and slow. Would be nice if they at least didn’t serve warm water with broken ac. Food very good though.
Spicy Miso Ramen was great. True Japanese Ramen
It's my new obsession to introduce people to their Spicy Miso Ramen
Best ramen I've had next to China
Good food and variety
Food was delicious. No air conditioning on a 90 degree.
Excellent service. Very attentive server. Food was average at best.
The serene ambience of the back patio is a wonderful way to unwind from a frenetic work week. Refreshing cocktails, and delicious food. Our server Amy was great!
Service was excellent and the food was savory. Enjoyed our dinner very much.
The location is great, but I wish the restaurant was bigger! The food is amazing and it would be better served in a bigger place. Loved it! The food was good. Servers were pleasant and it was quiet. I’d return and recommend to anyone who loves authentic Japanese cuisine!
Sato is a nice looking restaurant. It is a small, quaint atmosphere. Server (Emily) was enthusiastic and had great familiarity with the entire menu.
Everything was nice, although the Food was just so-so. Ordered a special sushi roll but it was surprisingly salty. Had not experienced salty sushi before. The Ramen was okay but choices are somewhat limit.
Overall, it was fine but probably nothing distinguishing worth trying again
Best sushi and best ramen!
Went on a Friday night. Very busy.... they were short staffed but our waitress was great..doing the best she could. Long wait for food, but the sushi rolls and salmon carpaccio were worth the wait. Our server was very hepful in choosing saki flights. Ramen bowls were terrific as usual!
Always a wonderful experience to a wonderful asian food with family.
Great food overall, same goes for the service.
Our server was incredible. The food was excellent. Highly recommend this place.
Our experience at SATO was a bit underwhelming. We were excited to try the sushi and had made reservations ahead of time. When we had arrived, we found out that they had given up our reserved seats and sat someone else at our table which was a bit upsetting. But they made arrangements to have us seated.
The place is smaller than I expected and the seating was a bit closer together than I would have liked. We wanted to have more of a private setting but they don’t really have booths.
The waiters were very professional and friendly and easy to talk to. We ordered the vegi ramen with spicy miso as the waiter suggested and I would highly recommend this as it was delicious. We also ordered the shrimp tempura which my wife enjoyed very much.
It was a bit pricey and we didn’t feel like it was a private setting but the food and the service was good. I don’t think we will come back unless I’m really craving the ramen again but it’s not a bad place. I would recommend checking them out if you haven’t tried SATO and decide for yourselves.
Absolutely delicious. Great selection of vegetarian options.
As first time visitors we appreciated the help of the server in explaining the traditional way to order at this restaurant. He was knowledgeable and made suggestions we were happy with. Loved that we could get drinks , appetizers and meal for $50.
Great birthday celebration with friends great food awesome service
This is a gem. Love the food, great service, reasonable price.
I really enjoyed my dinner at SATO. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced. Where I sat it felt you were right on top of the people next to us but nothing I couldn’t handle. The service although very friendly was not up to the same Kevlar the food was. There were no major issues with the service it just wasn’t great. I will definitely eat at SATO again.
Best Ramen you will ever taste. So beautifully presented. Many sushi options. Very fresh ingredients. Desserts ate delicious and are not always the same. One of our favorite spots in Buffalo
Our server, Soon, was exceptional! So friendly and helpful! We love it there and always know that we'll have a great meal.
Sato never disappoints! The sushi is the best in town and the Ramen is amazing with such a depth of flavor! We love this place!
We go there every few months. The food is delicious. Our waitress remembered us. We always enjoy our visit and will go back as often as we can.
