Satis Bistro - Jersey City Ratings and Reviews
We came for the special Thanksgiving meal. The 1st course tart was slightly burnt on the bottom. The turkey was salty; the brussel sprouts were not done - they were actually hard. They allowed me to choose something off the menu. Which was fine, but I wanted a THANKSGIVING meal. I chose the beef dish with frites. As I've done my entire life, I order the steak medium rare. I think in 15 years I've had to return a steak 2-times because it wasn't done properly. This one arrived rare. Frustrated and hungry, I ate around the edges of the cool, raw center and most of my fries. The dessert that came with the meal was oddly chalky and not well prepared. For $110 (2 meals) + drinks and coffee, it was abysmally not worth it.
My husband ate the TG meal but had the same problems I did. I almost ate the 1st meal but then thought about how much I was looking forward to a NICE TG meal. This was not it. Not even close.
The waiter was horrible. He never once came and asked how the Thanksgiving meal was. Only 15+ minutes later he asked if I'd like to wrap mine up. I had eaten two maybe three bites. I told him no - and the problems with the food. He offered the menu as i stated. Came with the second plate of steak and fries. Asked if it was okay a few minutes later. I told him no but out of frustration and hunger, would eat it any way. No apologies. No "let me make this right." Nothing. He just walked away without saying a word.
We finished our drinks. The waiter never asked if we'd like another. He brought our desserts without asking if we'd like coffee. WE had to request coffee. They were busy but not THAT busy. He had time to stand and chat with his peer, bus and reset a table. But I guess asking guests if we were doing okay, if we'd like something else, if our food was okay - I guess that was too much.
NEVER ever again. We spent $140 for the meal with cocktail and coffee. It wasn't worth even 1/3 of that. Terrible service. Terrible food.
We hadn't been to Satis in awhile and were so happy with their Thanksgiving dinner. The turkey confit and stuffing were moist and flavorful. They had numerous veggie options for the vegetarian in our group. We're definitely planning to dine there more often!
I was a little disappointed this time around at Satis: we have usually had exceptional food there over the years, but this time it was fairly mediocre. The fish was very bland and the pasta dish with sausage was just alright. For their very high, NYC-style price point I expected more. I'm hoping they were simply having an off night and that the next time we eat there they will shine again.
We made reservations for Satis Bistro through open table. As you walk into the restaurant the ambiance is cozy, they have warm lighting throughout. As for the menu, we ordered the hanger steak and roasted chicken. Both dishes were tasty. Bottles of wine start at $29. As for service, they were efficient. Overall we enjoyed our dinners and will go back.
I've been to Satis quite a few times in the last 5 years or so. I usually get the short ribs, which are amazing, but I had that dish elsewhere recently, so I went with the spaghetti and clams. The dish was good, but not up to what i expect from Satis. Overall a good experience and will always recommend, but just felt that they were a little off their game that night.
We met friends. All of us had a great dinner. Theo, the waiter/manager, was charming and helpful in suggesting menu favorites. He treated us to two desserts that he wanted us to try. The Yogurt was especially good. The meats were quite tender and the fish en papillose was very well prepared.
The other tables had mostly young neighborhood folks that were quite friendly making it feel like our own neighborhood spot, although it was the first time we had come there. The eveing was warm and there were quite a few outside diners.
Great evening at Satis from start to finish. Our group of eight was seated promptly at our reservation time, had a terrific server - Theo - who gave wonderful suggestions for both wine and food. Attentive service, but not overkill. Great atmosphere. Delicious on all counts. One friend said it's the best meal he's had in JC. We can't wait to go back.
Food was great. I had the Rigatone and my girlfriend has the short ribs. Both of us were thrilled with our meals. Sangria was delicious too. Staff was very friendly. Many people recommended the German Chocolate sunday, it was good but at the end of the day still just ice cream. Overall a really nice place. Bill came out to under $100 for both of us with drink and dessert included.
Blown away by how accommodating they were for my business dinner. I saw how the restaurant could work perfectly for a nice romantic dinner for 2, a business dinner, and upstairs even had a party of some sort. Food was great and wait staff really paid attention to our needs. Next time I go it's going to be with my wife and I'm looking forward to it.
Decided to head to Jersey City after seeing a Broadway matinee for an early dinner. My party was very pleasantly surprised. The location was great, the food was outstanding and the ambiance was perfect. We ordered and shared a bunch of appetizers and entrees and each one was as delicious as the next. I will be going back soon!
Food was great - an interesting mix of European cuisine, from Spanish Serrano ham and patatas bravas, to Italian pasta, to Hungarian dessert wine and palinka! Loved the assortment, and everything was done well. They offer meat and cheese tapas, other small bites, salads, pastas, and entrees ranging from hangar steak to seafood risotto to chicken. A great place for foodies and picky eaters alike! Wine list is substantial and had a range of prices, so everyone will find something to their liking.
We used to live in Jersey City and Satis is one of our favorites! Even though we don't live locally anymore, we still make the drive for date nights at least twice a year. The food is amazing and we love the wine list. The service is always wonderful, and dinner there always feels like a special occasion.. Also, try the German Chocolate Cake Sundae-- it may be the best sundae I've ever had! I definitely recommend Satis!
We had a reservation at 7pm - we showed up at 7pm and the hostess indicated our table wasn't ready so we had to wait at the bar - no problem but there were a bunch of tables empty. We followed the hostess to the bar, which was in this weird back room and waited 25mins to be called for our table. We were seated at a table that was empty since we walked in.
Then we were ignored for 15 more minutes before we were finally acknowledged by a waiter who seemed less then interested to be speaking with us. The table next to us, however got amazing service - their drinks were poured for them from their bottle, and they were checked on every 10 mins. We were barley spoken to.
We spent a lot of money there for dinner - which was very tasty but I already had a bad taste in my mouth from the service - and i felt like we had to fight for attention.
It was a shame because my friend was planning on coming here for her birthday dinner, with about 12 people in tow, but after our experience, she cancelled her reservation - we will be taking our business elsewhere to a restaurant that isn't annoyed by our presence.
A delightful evening -- excellent food, great help with choosing wines, and a cozy atmosphere with a table toward the back of the restaurant where it was -- thankfully -- relatively quiet. We usually prefer the outside tables when the weather is this nice, but that area was full. But they were most accommodating about our preference for quiet. And the gelato/sorbet for dessert was amazing.
