Overall very nice food and service. However, front of the house is horrible and not accommodating at all
Always a great meal. Creative menu and great service.
Went here on a Groupon which included app, entree and dessert which was good value. Portions were just right and flavorful. The cheese selection for dessert was too garlicky for my tastes but other than that the meal was good. Waitress did not offer to refill coffee but rest of service was fine. Good ambience and busy for a Thursday. I think sassafraz does a fair amount of Groupon business Jan to March.
We had a very good meal and the service was excellent. The atmosphere is lovely.
Love this place! They made our dinner very special!
We had such a great time this evening. Our server was absolutely exceptional. I’m a vegan and he took extra care to lay out options for me. Thank you for a great anniversary dinner experience.
Amazing as always; even their groupon menu is inventive, beautiful prepared and presented, and staff are attentive and friendly. Great restaurant that I am happy to revisit as often as I can.
We had a really good time at Sassafraz. The service was wonderful and the food really good.
Will be back for sure.
Overall the meal was quite good with a smaller menu. However, if you are a diner with dietary restrictions, do call in advance as the options are limited. Lovely ambiance with a split between having the option to lounge in the front with comfy sofas or fine dining with white table cloths in the next room beyond the glass doors. The service was perfect. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive and truly did try to accommodate our dietary restrictions, but was limited with the menu. But what we had was superb.
This is the second bad experience I've had at Sassafraz. I ordered a hamburger and it was soggy and the meat was grey and it was tasteless. The service was not great - we were served well in the beginning, but then the waitress never came back for me to order another glass of wine. It wasn't very busy. Not surprised.
Very good food, fresh and well prepared. The crab/corn chowder was excellent the Mac&Cheese app was very tasty. The burger was great. Excellent place for a reasonable lunch and I would like to go back for dinner. They seemed to have a v g wine selection although we did not have a glass.
The dessert creme brule was excellent.
Service was professional
Service was excellent, the food was disappointing for the price
Service was very good, our waitress was superb. The food was excellent. Everything was perfect, cannot find anything negative to write.
Disappointed. Hostess needs better training and seemed scattered.Asked if we were redeeming coupon to which I replied that I had a gift card. She assumed we had purchased Groupon deal which was incorrect. Given Groupon menu (covered in spilled food) and had to request the full menu. Subsequently asked by another hostess for our voucher leaving us to again explain that we were not with Groupon. Bench seating at back of restaurant needs a good shampoo. Menu has good variety but over-priced given quality and quantity. Bright spot in evening was our server, Brian. Very friendly and competent. Had hoped for a special evening out and instead spent $250 for "meh."8
Great dinner! Food was amazing and very fullfilling! We go to this restaurant once every couple of month and the food never disappoints. Their Arctic char was cooked to perfection!
As always the ambiance, the food, but above all the service is excellent. Keep the good job.
I’ve been there a few times for lunch but diner was better
Just wanted to try sassafraz with my husband. I had bought a deal from groupon. They have a seperate menu for groupon, so you have to inform them that you are doing groupon. It was a little awkward since i had called in advance to let them know that and they still gave us regular menus. When the waiter came to take the order, he informed us of different menus and brought them over. It took half an hour just to place the order. The groupon menu doesn’t have steak or other expensive items on the menu. In the end it cost us almost the same if we had gotten regular menu items and skipped on dessert. The dessert menu options on groupon are very limited so we ended up leaving it anyways. However, sassafraz as a restaurant is very nice,
I am just not sure if would ever do the groupon thing again.
I told the waiter I wanting the fish medium well but the fish was raw and meal was warm but not hot. I told the waiter my fish was raw and he was not happy. After 15 minutes the person gave me another fish and fish was cook and hot.
This was first mybexperience of the Sasaphraz restaurant. The meal was quite good and for at a reasonable price. The service was excellent and 'forgetful people' friendly. We left a package at our table and the server caught up to us on the street to return it to us just as our ride was pulling up to the curb.
We hope to be back some time in the future.
Delicious and well worth every penny. The food was excellent as was the service and location.
Great food, I've come here for 10 years and it's always amazing.
Good ambiance and service located in the Yorkville area.
It was Sunday and they offer only brunch. But luckily burger on menu for partner and pancakes daughter said were great tasting. I enjoyed the egg white omelet with quinoa salad.
Beautiful afternoon spent at Sassafraz. I made a request for a round table in the back room. We arrived 1 hour early and they still honoured that request. Service was wonderful. The food, delicious. It's a little pricey but not unreasonable for Yorkville. It felt more like an experience than just lunch.
Perfect place for a date. Great light with quiet atmosphere. Very polite and professional staff. Tables are set really nicely. Green P near by few minutes walk away. Food were excellent and unique. Great restaurant and would always re-visit. 9.5/10.
Generally superb cuisine, attentive service and elegant ambiance, slightly marred this time by a lukewarm entree, having to remind staff about our wine and drinks order which didn't arrive until after the appetizers were finished and a misunderstood dessert substitution. Still a lovely restaurant, but a little disappointing considering the price point and reputation.
Absolutely delicious and incredible! A must go to!
We ladies had a lovely lunch.
Only comment .... we thought $24.00 for six oysters was steep.
Great food and service, but we were a surprised that even with an Open Table reservation, they didn’t have a table in the dining room for us. We had to seat ourselves at the ‘cafe’ side. Our server was great and made up for the situation and the food was delicious, generous portions and flavourful.
Wonderful meal, superb service, location & modern decor to boot! Food was not really as creative or tasty as other trips to the restaurant (Huge emphasis on barley on the current menu), still very good, just not outstanding. I will come back, this is a family staple and we generally dine at Sassafraz twice a year.
Their service was good but the food was sad and not worth it. Too uptight.
Poor service was the main problem
Had to return one entre and it came back wrong
Also ordered champagne which was forgotten
Food was very tasty and nice place
Husband and I went here for brunch this past weekend and chose to sit in the cafe area on the couches. It was a very snowy day so I imagine this is why it was quite empty (Id expected itnto be busier). We tried the steak and eggs and lobster croque madame. Husband found the steak to be undercooked. However the rest of the food was very good. The service was good as well. Didnt have to wait very long for food and the server checked in frequently making sure everything was ok with the meal.
The only grievance I have is that the website doesn't specify that the weekend brunch is an all day thing. We'd actually gone in at 1:30 pm expecting to have lunch. However we learned that they only have a brunch menu until 5 pm when thet switch to dinner. We were already there so decided to try out the items from the brunch menu, as I said above. I'm interested to try lunch or dinner here perhaps at a later time.
Great place for a large group. Good food and service
A last minute decision to go to Sassafraz during Winterlicious. Excellent food, a large choice (compared to other Winterlicious venues), reasonably priced wine.
This restaurant has been on my bucketlist for quite a while and it didn't disappoint.
Went for date night and the space was amazing. Loved the vaulted ceiling in the dining area and the waterfall. Food was on point. I had the lamb meatballs as a starter lamb shoulder as a main and a selection of cheeses for desert. Meatballs were amazing. The lamb shoulder was literally a melt in your mouth experience.... However, the cheese selection (note to self don't ever, EVER order blue cheese again) wasn't my thing. It was a winterlicious prix fix selections.
I highly recommend this restaurant especially for those romantic date nights 😁
Great meal and service.
Visited During Winterlicious. As usual Sassafraz, unlike some other Winterlicious venues, does not offer smaller portions because of Winterlicious prices. Food is delicious and while you have appetizer, entree & dessert included, you might be better off to have the cheese tray dessert ( ok charcuterie) with your wine/appetizer so that the flavours of the entrees are the final flavours that you experience. Just delicious. Missing some of the senior staff this year who had service done to a fine art, maybe it was just a one off. Beautiful atmosphere. Casual or Special Occasion- well worth a visit. A Toronto favourite. Still.
I had to ask for a clean tablecloth. For that we changed table and had the server mixed up when bringing our food.
One piece of fish was hardly cooked but I had another plate brought to me.
Everything was corrected but I expected better from that restaurant. Maybe winterlicious changes few things...
