I requested a table in front and was immediately moved, our waitress Bettina was awesome and made us feel special . Great bottle of wine and very good fries, I wish good restaurants could cook a burger medium rare, my only complaint was the burger was dry, and I didn’t order a bun with it to avoid the extra calories ,so the dryness was amplified. My sisters grilled cheese and my wife’s soup and salad were excellent.
The food was generally very good, except the pasta was so over spiced it was not edible.
What left a poor impression was that no one even asked if everything was good during the meal or when they picked up a main that was less than half eaten.
I expected better service and an attention to such details.
Great ambiance, great service! Our weekend brunch was amazing.
Ate dinner here with my girlfriend on a weekend visit to Toronto. The cocktails were amazing. We had the northern fashioned (a maple-rosemary flavored old fashioned) and the raspberry margarita. The cheese/meat board combo was a very tasty app, the burger was very good but cooked a touch more done than I normally like. I loved the onion jam on the burger. The chicken dish we ordered was ok, the chicken was cooked nicely and tasted great but neither of us loved the sauce it was served with. We both loved the ambiance with a beautiful wall of tropical plants including orchids behind us. Lovely neighborhood too, with plenty of other restaurants, shops, bars and cafes within walking distance.
The food was excellent. Our waiter, Austin, was extremely helpful in selecting the wine. He has a great attitude and added much to the ambiance.
My family & I visited Sassafraz on a Monday night. The food was good but the service was subpar.. I’ve been here many times & the service is usually good. The waitress (blonde lady), brought our drinks/cocktails out with half of them being spilled over... she asked that we grab our own drinks from the tray because she didn’t want to spill them even more lol. So I grabbed mine & it was all sticky. She also missed my cousins water glass & poured it all over the table. She then forgot to take my order & I finally got her attention 20 mins later to tell her. My order was then brought out later than everyone else’s. She also brought out the wrong cocktail for my brother. The whole night she did not meet any of Sassafraz’s standards that they usually have. I am shocked that they had hired her. Anyways, my family & I will not be back unless we have a different waiter or waitress. Disappointed.
Good food. Friendly staff. Background music volume was perfect (quiet).
The bean cassoulet was very dry and tasteless. Scones were very good.
The food was amazing as always. We were there for a very special occasion but found the yelling and banging from the upstairs wedding unbelievable. It kind of made the evening disappointing.
Overall an excellent experience. My guests were family from London, England aand they took away the card that came with receipt in order to tell their friends about this fantastic restaurant in Toronto. This was my first first after an absence for several years. I am looking forward to my next visit and I will telling all my friends that Sassafras has not changed. Thank you.
Great service and a little gem of a spot in the bustle of Yorkville!
Sassafraz is a beautiful space where every dish is prepared and served with perfection. I would come back tomorrow if I was still in Toronto.
Great food. Knowledgeable and pleasant server. Lovely ambiance.
Excellent food ambience and service. Fine dining without pretence. Attentive service staff were very helpful with the wine list for pairings. Will definitely return.
My favourite lunch spot in the neighbourhood. Our server Stefan was delightful and very efficient and the fish and chips were amazing.
We’ve been to Sassafraz 4-5 times before and have already had a good experience however this time it was extremely disappointing . The bread was cold and just didn’t taste like what we remembered it to be. For our entree we ordered the Pasta and Steak (based on the servers recommendation). The pasta was cold, watery and bland. It had two tiny pieces of crab but that’s about it. The steak was well done (I asked for medium rare) and was doused in butter and salt. It was so salty that my lips were numb from all the salt. I really wanted to eat some dessert but based on the entree we decided to skip and go to Summers closeby for ice cream (the best part of our date night). Considering our experience this time, I have no plans to ever return back to Sassafraz.
We always have a great time when we visit Sassafraz. Great food, great service and the venue is gorgeous. Perfect restaurant for an intimate evening.
First time dining there. Enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. I will definitely be going there again.
Improve the fast service
Good food, good service, decent pricing (considering Yorkville), great scenery. Would recommend
First time visiting with my husband to celebrate my birthday. Highly recommended by the hotel Four Seasons and our tour guide. Our experience was amazing, the fusion of flavors and originality will leave you wanting for more.
The restaurant is in a top place so we expected to have a good time. We ordered a bottle of Chardonnay which was almost warm and became chill only in the bucket when left half of bottle. All the time had to look for waiter to fill up the glasses. Gemmelli pasta was too salty for our palate (we can to compare with other restaurants with Italian food) with traces what was named a lobster sauce. In overall experience 3 out of 5 this is maximum. Good place for lunch/brunch but for dinner price/service/quality aren’t matched.
Pretty setting. Food overpriced. Pasta with crab had hardly any, like one teaspoonful of crab. Ceviche pretty but not acid enough. Creative combinations though.
This was my second time at Sassafraz, and I was extremely disappointed.
Everything from the seating setup to the service to the meal fell short. It took 15 minutes to rearrange the seating when we requested. It took forever to get any service at all for water and drinks. When water finally came, there was only enough for 2 people, and so we waited another 5 minutes for the rest of the table to get water. It took nearly a half hour before we finally received our cocktails - 2 cesars. The food had mixed reviews at the table. About half the group was satisfied. My meal was very overpriced for what I received - a very white and bland plate with zero garnish - just one piece of toast with some avocado on it. I was told it came with a salad, and then it did not. We waited for water refills and had to ask for more water more than one. This was for an engagement brunch with out of town family and friends, and we were very let down by the whole experience from start to finish.
we had an excellent meal and a lovely time at sassafraz--we will definitely be back!
Really enjoyable time. Staff was friendly and professional. Food for the most part was amazing. Wild boar was a little tough and the potatoes were a bit bland. Other dishes were wonderful! Impeccable service!
We had our wedding anniversary lunch at Sassafraz & the service was incredible. They made sure to make our day special. Food was delicious & came out quickly. Would definitely recommend!
Ive been to many restaurants and heard wonderful things about this place
but the moment me and my guests were seated the waiter at our table was condescending, rude and not personable and judgemental. It was so uncomfortable, we left to go get desert at planta restaurant where their customer service was superb
I would not recommend this place to anyone
Always a lovely space to have a calm, relaxing yet sophisticated dinner. Food was good, as usual. Service was uncharacteristically slow, as the sommelier was our server that night, and he seemed to be pre-occupied with large groups. Hoping that this is not the new normal.
Haven’t been here in a while, they just finished renovations too so I decided to have a night out here again. Food was superb, I had the wild boar - an exceptional dish that was cooked well. The waitress was also very polite and gave good service. Would definitely come again!
Good food, outstanding atmosphere & attention. It is very well situated in the middle of the neighborhood of Yorkville, which is fantastic to walk after the evening.
I ordered the cold tuna salad for lunch. The tuna portion is small and came home still hungry. Also, it was tasteless!
We were seated in the casual area which was a bit noisier as the dining room could not take another bigger party, due to my accidental reservation for a table of 2 as we were a party of 6. It was Mother’s Day and my aunt’s birthday (made note in my reservation) and surprised to see no one confirm in person or provided extras at this fine dining establishment. The restaurant was not that busy as our side was not full. I had taken a girlfriend two months ago to celebrate her birthday over brunch and they had brought out a little something along with 3 desserts on the house to compensate for our late meals. I thought the gesture was kind, which lead me to consider that this was a place to take my family to for the occasion. My husband had the wild boar and chose to go with chef’s choice to cook it medium well— came out too dry, even at the bone. Two gemelli pastas for mum and aunt— was underwhelming, as the dish was soaked in butter. Father and I had burgers— they were fine, enjoyed the bit of bourbon onion jam that made it a tad bit different but hard to not make good burgers. Overall food didn’t reflect the prices paid but waiter was nice, despite dismissing the special occasions.
Excellent spot for Mother's Day brunch! Good food and lovely ambiance
service was extremely bad. waitress took forever to get our drinks started and we did not see her for 30 mins at a time. peoples meals came at different times. forgot to giv3 me a steak knife
Fantastic experience and food as always. Our server was extremely nice. Will definitely come back again soon
Professional service and welcoming staff. Had a nice time with my family. Thank you!
The server we had was so nice! He’s the best server I’ve ever had in all my years going to restaurants! We all loved him! The restaurant is beautiful and the food is amazing! I’ll definitely recommend! I love Sassafraz! Also, the table was for seven people .. we changed it from 4, and we were all overly satisfied with the service!
Hadn’t been here in years and it was great to go back. Duck pâté was fantastic, and I had venison for main which was a great reco by our server.
We had dinner with friends inside at a specially reserved table. I would recommend this restaurant on all fronts. For us it is a place for special occasions such as birthdays or as this last time with friends from overseas. For the Yorkville area the prices are fairly reasonable.
