Since its opening in October of 2013, Sarma has been Somerville's go-to neighborhood spot for Middle-Eastern and Eastern-Mediterranean inspired cuisine. Here, Chef/Co-Owner Cassie Piuma serves up casual & carefully constructed small plates that pack in bold flavors and highlight Piuma's exquisite culinary command of spices, textures, and colors. Sarma's bar opens daily at 5 PM- drop by to try one of our house cocktails, or to sample our range of craft beers and eclectic wines. Walk-ins are always welcome and are greeted on a first-come first-served basis. Please note, reservations are highly encouraged. Also, don't forget that Sarma offers a late night menu option Sunday-Thursday at starting at 10 PM, and Friday & Saturday starting at 11 PM.

Sarma Ratings and Reviews
I really had high expectations for this place but was disappointed. First it is very noisy so if you are looking for a quiet romantic night out this is not the place for you. The food is served tapas stlye so we ordered 6 dishes based on the recommendation of our server - she was actually very nice so I commend her. We felt the dishes were cooked in too much oil and were heavy in our stomachs until the next day. We are both quite familiar with Middle Eastern food and have travelled extensively there so the blended of spices is not new to us - but this is nothing like home cooked Middle Eastern food or food from a high end restaurant there. Sorry to give it such a bad review but I really did want it to be good.
Sarma is a beautiful restaurant, offering thoughtful, tastefully curated dishes that are vibrant and tempting in both flavor and texture. We especially loved the wild salmon with corn fattoush and the goat's milk frozen yogurt with halva caramel. Our servers were prompt, knowledgeable and friendly.
I was intrigued by the fact that it was SO hard to get a table here. For us, this was all about the food. Each dish was OMG you have to try this: Kohlrabi fritters, sugersnaps, feta cheese gnocchi with figs. The lukamades (ricotta doughnuts) were crazy good.
The service was prompt, friendly. We would've been annoyed at the noise level (too big) and table size (a tad small) but I would've eaten these dishes sitting on the curb. I need to save up to go back soon!
Delicious meal - but we ordered too much!
I'm a fan of veggies and their many small plates were great combinations I'd never seen or eaten before. But not weird!
Casual ambiance that felt homey - not overdone, and a place where all are welcome to eat, chat at the bar and generally mix. Exceptionally kind and professional staff - if you need parking ask them for directions to Sarma unmarked lot.
This was our second visit. Food is prepared especially well and suits our plant based diet. Our experience was not as enjoyable for one main reason. The server was not that pleasant and all
four of us felt like we were putting him out. We mentioned our diet but the dishes came out with yogurt anyway. When we finished he was lurking around the table
to clean up. I felt like I had to rush and we were quite quick already. The reason why we probably waited a little longer was to see what other specials were coming out. There was only two in the hour we were there.
Sarma never disappoints - and is worth every bite and dollar. Had reserved for special friends coming in from out of town and I had booked a month in advance! I have eaten here several times before and reserve Sarma for special occasions when you get to savor and discuss the delicious meals. I had mentioned to the staff over the phone that the child with us had a peanut allergy and they noted this and specially brought over a nut-free menu for him. Their sesame chicken is the best item not on the menu and thankfully goes around as a special dish whenever I have eaten there. My friends noted how well prepared the dishes were and so layered with flavors. We got the Octopus, Brussels sprouts, Trout Saltimbocca, Brisket Shawvarma, Beef jerky, Corn Cakes. Their sauces are very creative and delicious. You can tell I'm big fan!
Recommended to always make reservations. Would be nice to have more dessert options, but then we are often too full to eat those :)
This place is hardly a secret, although it is certainly out of the way. Parking is a hassle, but it's worth it. So many ingredients that could be considered esoteric by the average diner that the menu comes with a glossary. We particularly enjoyed the steak tartare, the clams, the scallops, and the octopus. This was our second visit; we'll be back.
