Sargasso of Morgantown Restaurant & Bar
Food and service were fabulous, as always.
A delightful place to dine during the COVID-19 crime.
Fantastic wine, great food and the blackberry strudel was to die for. In fact it was the best I have ever had. The chef is from Austria.
I think they now have it together. I've been a little critical at times in the past, but dinner Saturday was top to bottom great. Great server, great grouper, friendly staff, including the chief.
Pros: Great service! Burrata toast was a nice starter. Tomato bisque solid as well! Salmon well prepared and filet cooked to ordered temperature.
Cons: Decor showing its age. Needs some updating. 7:15 p.m. Saturday seating and not busy at all.
We had wonderful lunch yesterday. The Calamari was excellent as always and our sandwiches were great! High Recommended
This was our second visit to Sargasso of Morgantown. Our first visit was five stars across the board, but this visit left us a bit disappointed. On our first visit, there were plenty of wait staff who provided top notch service. On this visit, our waitress was overwhelmed with tables to serve. The managers were stepping in to help, but were making mistakes delivering orders to the wrong tables. The weather outside was cold and there was a draft that gave my wife and other guests seated close by a chill. The food was excellent. We will visit again, but will pick a date when the weather is warmer.
The menu selection was not very exciting. We got the pickle appetizer which was an assortment of vinegar drenched vegetables that did not go very well together. The ratatouille was sloppily prepared. The rice pilaf looked like it came straight out of a microwave minute rice cup and the flavor of the tomato sauce was comparable to that of Ragu. We also ordered the pork chop which was surprisingly undercooked. We had high expectations for such a well rated restaurant but were very disappointed by what we experienced
Andy provided excellent customer service on the phone and on site. He let our host and waiter know about the surprise so everyone was tracking. Great experience!
We have written good and bad reviews for Sargasso. This visit was very good. The chiefs are always very good. They bent over this visit to make the service good. They had a nice seafood entry, which is not always the case. Again, though, we were unable to contact them by phone.
The food was great. The server was great. The plates are a little small.
Food excellent. Waitress attentive and knowledgeable. Food hot and perfectly presented. Birthday dinner that was perfect.
Wonderful place to dine and socialize with family and friends! My favorite!
Delicious as always!
Outstanding waiter and excellent food
We celebrated our 25th anniversary with adult children and their spouses and the evening was wonderful. The staff went over and beyond to make our evening special; thank you to Adam for the discussions earlier in the day on the seating arrangement and the wine selections; Andrew did a great job serving; David at the bar helped out with clean wine glasses; and the chef made a special vegetarian entree for my husband. So the evening was truly a success! Thank you Sargasso for a memorable 25th anniversary dinner!
I'm giving up on management. We make our reservations thru Open Table because they do not answer their phone. We called last week, when no reservation was available thru Open Table, to make sure that they were busy. We asked for a call back and got nothing. This Saturday the menu has changed where the only fish is salmon. We had to ask the server if we were to open the wine. They have a problem keeping servers of the quality you would expect at their prices.
It's not the chiefs. They are great, but for some reason management is making a lot of poor decisions on menu, staff, and response to phone inquires.
It may be a long time before we try them again.
What can we say, we always say Jenny and I are going to try another venue in Mo'Town but wind up right back at the only place worth dining....Sargasso!
Food was absolutely fantastic. Lentil soup, trout salad and salmon entrée. All perfect.
We are a regular here. We always ask ahead for a chilled bottle of our favorite wine. If we make our reservation a few days ahead, knowing that we like a certain kind of food, they will make sure that it is available for us. Does not get any better than that.
We were in town working the football game for the weekend, and found Sargasso through a search. My friend and I are somewhat foodies and liked the menu. We were blown away by the soup of the day which was wine and cheese. Now that doesn't sound like much, but WOW would be the way to describe it. Entrees were creative and the salad was beautifully presented and perfectly dressed.
Our waiter Dylan was fabulous, and service was terrific. The prices are surprisingly affordable.so you won't be disappointed, I can assure you.
Food and wine were wonderful
Celebrated our wedding anniversary at Sargasso, and it was a delightful evening. Food was excellent - we shared the pumpkin tortellini and the salmon - and our server (Sarah, I think) was excellent.
Service was really bad, everything we asked the server for she forgot to do and we had to ask multiple times. Unfortunate as the food was good, probably the most upscale restaurant in Morgantown, however the service didn’t match, at least during this experience.
First class as always. Have never been disappointed here. Excellent service and the food was tremendous.
I have always had an excellent meal at Sargasso. My wife also enjoys her vegetarian meal.
Bar/wait staff were amazing
Service was awesome. Scallops and rice cake yum. Green side did not taste right but hummus was delish!!
Excellent food and atmosphere, staff very pleasant
Servers were amazing and accommodating. Food was excellent.
I could always spens less money, but tje food, service, and ambiance could not be improved upon.
I had the filet, medium well, and it was perfect, the best I've had in a long time. Everything was delicious and the server was very attentive.
Pleasing decor, friendly service, and innovative cuisine. Great place!
We were celebrating my wife's retirement and David, our waiter, took very good care of us. The food was very good. My wife had the prime rib which was excellent and I had the fish special. We truly enjoyed the evening.
I like using Sargasso for business meals. Great atmosphere. Elegant but casual too. Easy to hold a conversation and service and food are excellent.
Everything we ordered was very tasty and the service was wonderful. We ordered fish, my friend had the salmon and I had the striped bass, both were fillet with creative ingredients, that made together a delicious symphony in my mouth. For desert we took the zabaglione, made of passion fruit cream and meringue, OMG it was soooo delicious. so unusual and so good. I must say, I am very picky with food and I like special unordinary dishes, we definitely had such experience in Sargasso. In three words - We'll be back !
There is a reason I come back every week. It’s amazing!
Fryer was broken so brunch menu was very limited. Food was just ok. Very expensive for what we ordered. Waitstaff are nice young women but barely competent. Won’t go back.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and the menu choices. However, the food itself was not that great. If they were $10 plates, I wouldn't have returned. Since they were much more than that, I definitely was not satisfied with the quality and taste. Besides the actual taste of the food, everything else was about average, or slightly above.
An amazing place to go for your anniversary. Fine dining done right. ☺
