Sargasso of Morgantown Restaurant & Bar
What can we say, we always say Jenny and I are going to try another venue in Mo'Town but wind up right back at the only place worth dining....Sargasso!
Food was absolutely fantastic. Lentil soup, trout salad and salmon entrée. All perfect.
We are a regular here. We always ask ahead for a chilled bottle of our favorite wine. If we make our reservation a few days ahead, knowing that we like a certain kind of food, they will make sure that it is available for us. Does not get any better than that.
We were in town working the football game for the weekend, and found Sargasso through a search. My friend and I are somewhat foodies and liked the menu. We were blown away by the soup of the day which was wine and cheese. Now that doesn't sound like much, but WOW would be the way to describe it. Entrees were creative and the salad was beautifully presented and perfectly dressed.
Our waiter Dylan was fabulous, and service was terrific. The prices are surprisingly affordable.so you won't be disappointed, I can assure you.
Food and wine were wonderful
Celebrated our wedding anniversary at Sargasso, and it was a delightful evening. Food was excellent - we shared the pumpkin tortellini and the salmon - and our server (Sarah, I think) was excellent.
Service was really bad, everything we asked the server for she forgot to do and we had to ask multiple times. Unfortunate as the food was good, probably the most upscale restaurant in Morgantown, however the service didn’t match, at least during this experience.
First class as always. Have never been disappointed here. Excellent service and the food was tremendous.
I have always had an excellent meal at Sargasso. My wife also enjoys her vegetarian meal.
Bar/wait staff were amazing
Service was awesome. Scallops and rice cake yum. Green side did not taste right but hummus was delish!!
Excellent food and atmosphere, staff very pleasant
Servers were amazing and accommodating. Food was excellent.
I could always spens less money, but tje food, service, and ambiance could not be improved upon.
I had the filet, medium well, and it was perfect, the best I've had in a long time. Everything was delicious and the server was very attentive.
Pleasing decor, friendly service, and innovative cuisine. Great place!
We were celebrating my wife's retirement and David, our waiter, took very good care of us. The food was very good. My wife had the prime rib which was excellent and I had the fish special. We truly enjoyed the evening.
I like using Sargasso for business meals. Great atmosphere. Elegant but casual too. Easy to hold a conversation and service and food are excellent.
Everything we ordered was very tasty and the service was wonderful. We ordered fish, my friend had the salmon and I had the striped bass, both were fillet with creative ingredients, that made together a delicious symphony in my mouth. For desert we took the zabaglione, made of passion fruit cream and meringue, OMG it was soooo delicious. so unusual and so good. I must say, I am very picky with food and I like special unordinary dishes, we definitely had such experience in Sargasso. In three words - We'll be back !
There is a reason I come back every week. It’s amazing!
Fryer was broken so brunch menu was very limited. Food was just ok. Very expensive for what we ordered. Waitstaff are nice young women but barely competent. Won’t go back.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and the menu choices. However, the food itself was not that great. If they were $10 plates, I wouldn't have returned. Since they were much more than that, I definitely was not satisfied with the quality and taste. Besides the actual taste of the food, everything else was about average, or slightly above.
An amazing place to go for your anniversary. Fine dining done right. ☺
Great place, excellent wine list, professional waitstaff.
We went here during WVU graduation weekend 2019 for a family dinner with 9 people. I had high hopes for a very nice experience, as we had family here from California, New York, Florida and Maryland.
Our first surprise was that only a limited menu was available. As we had children with us, and no child-friendly items were on the menu, this was a problem.
The food we ordered was a disappointment. The wedge salad was absolutely tiny - I expected an actual wedge of lettuce, but this was about 4 leaves for a price of $12.
The chicken entree was tough and the oysters Rockefeller were dry and tasteless.
All in all, we paid $400 for an extremely disappointing experience. I was embarrassed to have taken my guests there.
We chose Sargasso for our son's graduation dinner. The menu was quite extensive online and I knew there would be something for everyone. We were disappointed to find out that there was a limited menu for graduation weekend. While this was understandable, it would have been nice to know that in advance.
The food was very good, but only high end items were available.
The ambiance was nice, but we were seated in a "private room" in the back with another party. That would have been fine, except the acoustics in that room were terrible and we struggled to have conversation. Once the other party finished and left it was greatly improved, but they were not particularly loud so I wonder if some sort of sound baffles would take care of the problem.
Overall a pleasant dining experience and we would recommend the restaurant to others.
We went to Sargasso's for our 47th wedding anniversary. Had not been there before. Excellent food, excellent service.
It was the first time my wife and I had the opportunity to eat at Sargasso in celebrating my wife's birthday. We were both very pleased with our meals. We had appetizers, salad and an entree and they were all so delicious. We had a drink at the bar first and the bartender was very friendly and gave us good advice regarding the restaurant. We sat on the kitchen side and enjoyed the open kitchen concept. Our waiter was very quick and accommodating. We definitely recommend for a special event.
The Sargasso has a lovely ambiance, however, the restaurant view is of the parking lot instead of the waterfront as one would have expected. The chef is sending wonderful food to the table with prices to match the quality of the ingredients. The wine list is digitalized which allows for greater information and realtime changes, however, it is stuffed overpriced selections. There are a few highly unusual and exotic wines for the jaded drinker to experiment with by the glass or bottle. Overall, this is a wonderful restaurant but the wait staff needs more training and the chef needs to work hard at designing great food with none stratospheric costs. Morgantown has come of age with this addition to the culinary scene - it ain't just football fare anymore!
Quick, friendly and knowledgeable server.
Slower service than usual this trip, wasn’t even very busy. Dinner guests had the pasta special and didn’t like it. Will return and try something else on menu.
Food is always excellent and the brunch menu had many tasty selections.
Incredible food and service!
The food and drinks at Sargasso are outstanding. The atmosphere is beautifully done. We have friends who live and dine in New York and other major cities and they always say this is one of the best places on the planet. I have to agree.
The presentation of the cuisine is imaginative, and everything is prepared to perfection. The bartenders are also expert in cocktail creation. The desserts are also outstanding. Truly five stars.
Decor needs attention. Carpeting was dirty, fabric
worn & torn on seating. Chair legs were beat up. Not the decor of an upscale restaurant.
It was a really great meal and they really have a very eclectic but well put together menu. All the food is so flavorful and skillfully presented!
Great food! We went for Sunday brunch and were immediately seated. Great service.
We enjoyed a nice Sunday brunch in a cozy restaurant overseen by friendly and attentive servers.
Excellent service and delicious food. Service was fast but felt unhurried. Lovely atmosphere.
Good food and good service.
