Sarento's Top of the “I” - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
It's a darn shame this restaurant has closed its doors after 25 years. They did not renew their lease with the Ilikai, and many customers are upset and going to miss this place tremendously. It's been my favorite restaurant since first dining there seven years ago. The entire "being" of that establishment was, to me, ideal. The view, the service, the menu, and the people (employees and patrons) couldn't be beat. Hard to replace what was experienced at Sarento's. I hope the Ilikai knows what it's doing by letting this "gem" of a restaurant close!!!! Hopefully, whatever/whoever occupies that space will be as amazing.
The service was horrible! We had to ask for bread, our menus, butter, etc at least 10 times until someone brought it. Even if you make eye contact with them they will ignore you. The only good this was the view of the beach and fireworks show. Don’t go here.
By the time anyone reads this review the restaurant will be closed. It’s kind of sad but the only reason I’m writing this is to see if anyone else experienced a similiar situation. I wanted to take my friend out for a nice birthday dinner & like I said...I heard Sarento’s would be going out of business so I decided to make a reservation so as to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. We show up at the designated time & were told our table was being prepared & that it would be a few moments. While waiting, we noticed another couple (who I’ll call couple #1) had arrived before us & were also waiting to be seated. Within a 15 minute timeframe 4 other couples arrived & each were told the same thing. We could see the strain on the hostess’ face as she whispered to her co-worker what seemed like her disdain as to all the guests having to wait so long. 10 minutes later, couple #1 table was ready so they walked to the dining area & five minutes later we were told our table was ready. Soon after being seated our server greeted us but never gave us his name. We thought that was odd but the first thing he said was if we wanted cocktails. We asked for 2 soft drinks & 1 cocktail, they arrived soon after. Since we didn’t order any wine, proper etiquette calls for the wine glasses to be removed but they were left. As for the menu, I noticed that the online version had more selections than the one we had, so I questioned it & was told a lot of items were taken off the menu in preparation of the restaurant closing. It was around this time that we started to get this vibe that the staff was going through the motions of doing their jobs with no form of emotion. We started to feel sorry, after all they were going to lose their jobs within a matter of days. The clincher for me was how my dessert arrived that night (ice cream + a shot of kahlua). In a semi-stealth-like maneuver, the server slides a short clear glass from around my left arm & POOF was gone in a matter of seconds. WOW.
Went to Sarentos for the first time for my 30th birthday. Great food, beautiful and breathtaking views. But service was slow. Arrived at 850 for my 845 reservation and wasn't seated until 910-915. My entree didn't come out until close to 1015. Food was exceptional. I guess since they were closing in a few days service was a little sloppy.
The restaurant was half empty at 8:45pm (our reservation time) and they sat us behind a wall that goes into not the kitchen. There was PLENTY of window tables available. The waiter kept forgetting about us. The filets we had we're grisly. The vegetables were under cooked.
For a restaurant that was supposed to be 5 stars, I'd maybe give it a 1.5. Glad your closing.
We love coming to Sarento's on Fridays for the firework show however this time we were not able to get a table where we could see the firework show. This time we sat in the bar area which was very noisy and it was difficult to have a conversation among ourselves. Still, we enjoyed our meal. We are very sad that Sarento's is closing and wish the restaurant staff all the best.
Understanding they are closing at the end of the month, I wanted to go back to my favorite restaurant that has brought me many good memories. Unfortunately, the waiter stunk up the place with a great disappearing act. We waited 30 minutes for a menu while sitting with a 4 year old in tow. My sons' drink didn't come until dessert time. I had 5 minutes to eat my appetizer. Then I had to wait another 20 minutes for the check after asking and leaving my card on the table. The pasta had no meat in it. It's a shame. Plack would lose it if he were there with that treatment. Hope Maui is better but I see why they're closing.
Have not gone for a few years. Had to go now before they close on 9/30/2017. Was a good experience considering that Sorento’s will be closing. They were much better in their glory days. Although our server was attentive, there was long waits between the various stages of dining. The location was perfect to watch the gorgeous sunset. All in all, it was a worthwhile dining experience at a restaurant that will be missed!
Great Italian food. Many vegetarian options. The egg plant cannolini had a fantastic balance of flavor. The sauce was amazing with rich, complex flavor. For dessert we had the choc lava cake. Great depth of dark choc flavor, soft cream tops the cake w vanilla ice cream. Not too sweet & had a great complexity of choc flavor.
We went to Sarento's for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. It was a great time and we were well taken care of. Even received a free dessert! We were saddened to learn that Sarento's will be closing the end of September as we have been going for 17 years and have always enjoyed it.
Fine dining, great views of Waikiki, top floor of Ilikai Hotel. Very popular, busy restaurant, live combo playing during dinner hours. Nice menu selection, a little for everyone's taste. Food was good to excellent, well prepared, nice presentation. Nice wine list to complement meal. Service on the slow side this evening, server said because of being very busy. We have eaten here in the past and thought everything was excellent. Tonight, a couple of the meals a little over done and combined with the long wait between courses, made evening not as enjoyable as has been our experience in the past. Will chalk it up to the kitchen having a bad night, and will try again next time in town. Excellent views help you forget that the service was not up to par tonight. This restaurant well worth your visiting.
My cocktail before dinner wasn't good (virgin strawberry daiquiri), it was bitter and made with coarsely ground ice instead of a smooth, slush type ice. For dinner, I ordered a steak medium-well and slightly pink in the center. Instead the steak was prepared well-done without even a hint of pink in it. For the money spent I expected a lot more. Perhaps because the restaurant is closing at the end of the month the quality has slid a bit (not up to the standard/ reputation it has been known for) or, the bartender and chef just had a bad day. Either way I was not pleased with my experience.
Our experience for dinner this occasion was less enjoyable than our 5 previous visits as we live in HI. For 2 reasons: 1. Our waiter started very professional, but was too busy & didn't come across sincere - He was in a rush each time he stopped at our table; 2. My wife's meal (double cut porkchop) was very dry & although it was flavorable, the dryer ess was most prominent. We let our waiter know the porkchop was dry, but there was no follow-up mention of it by our waiter, no manager checked with us & no adjustment to our bill. One, if not a few of these follow ups should have occurred in a restaurant of this quality & price - Very disappointing!!
We'll give Sarentos another try eventually, but another experience like this & we won't return.
I have been to Sarento's for 3 special occasions and the food & drinks were excellent each time. The only gripe I have is that for every occasion (Birthday, Anniversary, Engagement) they did not present a little celebratory dessert for that particular special occasion. Also, it's sad that Sarento's is closing Sept. 30, 2017 after 25 years.
Everything was great, from the greeting to our server. We were well taken care of. I had assumed I booked the table for the 1,000 pts slot, not sure what happened and why I only received 100 pts. However, the dining experience and atmosphere was still one to remember. Would definitely consider coming here again.
The ambience was great, so was the view. The fireworks were a bit overhyped - everyone from the restaurant crowding to the edge of one end of the restaurant to get a view, blocking other guests in the process. The service was great. Wonderful servers. The food, however, was horrible. Entrees loaded with arugula - more than 70% of my date's dish was arugula with some dressing. My entree was too tomato-ey even though I had mentioned that I do not like too much tomato in my pasta. Dessert was excellent! Kind of overpriced for the overall experience. Would not recommend.
It was a quiet, Tuesday first seating. We had a table against the window to celebrate my friend's birthday. The cocktails were good. We had the osso bucco potstickers and the fresh catch. The fresh catch was a little fishy for me but was yummy altogether with the haricot verts, tomatoes, clams and gnocchi.
