Sarento's on the Beach Ratings and Reviews
You can’t beat the location of this restaurant, especially if you reserve way ahead and ask for a table on the patio. Go just before sunset. You are right on the edge of the beach about 75 feet to the ocean’s edge. The service was outstanding to begin with but then different people started tending to us and asking questions we’d already gone through. It’s almost like too many people are waiting on you. All of the food was delicious and they even cater to vegetarians-just ask. It’s very pricey, but worth it if you have multiple nights to go out.
I had a very disappointing meal for lunch. We had a great table so the beachfront view could not have been better. But:
-items that had been on the menu a few weeks ago have disappeared (Including fish tacos but also other items).
-there was a long wait to order
-our food did not arrive until after we had been there for an hour
-my omelet was overcooked, english muffin was as hard as a brick bat and the hash browns were so dry they were inedible.
-we waited so long for someone to take the payment that we finally just got up and went to the bar to pay.
Sarento's has a fantastic waterfront location, and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We had excellent creative seafood entrees. The mixed grill of shrimp, scallops, and local fish over a heavenly risotto was outstanding. The only downside was the very expensive wine list.
Way over-rated, way over priced, even for Maui. Food is OK, location is nice, but not worth $35 - $55 per entre not including salad or vegetable. My portion size was less than a kid’s portion. I wish more people would have left a more realistic review so that we would been steered away. Don’t waste your time, this was the worst restaurant, especially for the money, during our entire week in Maui.
Food is very good but for the price ($40 and higher entrees) it should be excellent and the service should be great. Service was fair at best - slow, mishandled (appetizers before the bottle of wine, which came 30 minutes after ordering it) and irritating (don’t talk too much/make excuses - not at this price point!). There are too many other restaurants in the Kihei/Wailea area that may charge in the same ballpark but their service and the overall experience are of a higher quality than Sarento’s. We will be skipping on our next visit to the island. Maui Revealed should remove the Ono.
We love Sarento’s for brunch and eat there often. But our service today was terrible. Our server came to our table 3 times the whole visit. Once to bring us coffee. Once to bring our drinks and once to take our meal order. No one came and asked us how our meal was going - which was unfortunate because my husbands eggs were way over cooked. No one had any toppings for our toast. And our coffees and waters all needed refills. I had to go several times to find another server for help. It took so long for help my husband ate his over cooked eggs and my daughter ate dry toast. Every time I walked past the kitchen I could see our server standing around doing nothing. I’m so sad because this is our favourite brunch spot - hopefully our next experience is better.
Seated us about 15 minutes late, and didn’t give us menus for a little while thereafter. So as we were trying to order around 8:30, they informed us they were out of everything our party of 4 was interested in. We opted to eat our salads and pay up promptly in favor of a better value happy hour nearby.
The location can't be beat. The food and service was sub par for the price and level of fine dining they try to offer. We've been here a few times in previous visits to the island, and the overall experience is sub par under (I assume) new management.
The setting was beautiful and perfect for with a few kids. The service was a little slow but the kids played on the beach and grass while the adults had cocktails so it was not an issue. The food was okay, nothing amazing. One major issue was there was a sewer smell that came and went in the area we were seated, it is hard to enjoy your food with that odor. I would go back for the setting of being right on the beach with access but not necessarily for the food.
We’ve been going to Sarentos for years but this was our most Disappointing visit in over 15 years. Signature dishes like Meatballs have been tampered with and not with a good outcome. Tiramisu- don’t bother anymore. Not worth the calories! Two bright spots - great ambiance and a newer dish - salsiccia ragu - good flavor and wonderful Parmesan gnocchi.
We went here New Year’s Eve of 2017...if I had to sum up our experience in one word it would be AWFUL. The set menu was way overpriced, the food was cold, and the service rushed. We had been to this restaurant several times before and enjoyed it but this has ruined out previous good memories. The best thing about the whole night was the photographer who was a really nice person and took some awesome pictures of our group. Don’t waste your money on this place....
My husband and I have dined at Sarento's several times in the past and have always enjoyed it so we were looking forward to having brunch there on Christmas Eve day. I wish I could say it lived up to expectations but it didn't even come close! The menu was changed the day prior to our visit so one of our favourite items was no longer being served. We were told one of the new menu items was very similar to the huevos rancheros so my husband ordered the new item and I ordered the eggs benny even though I was concerned about it being served with smoked pork loin. Not only was the food mostly cold when it was served, it was not very tasty (the smoked pork is not appealing at all). When we pointed out the temperature of the food, we didn't see another server until our bill was delivered to the table. We weren't even asked if we would like anything else. We were given a discount which was appreciated but it doesn't make up for unpleasant food. The only good things about the meal were the cocktails and the view.
This was our first time to Sarento's and I had done a lot of research to find the perfect place to go to dinner with our family group of 7 for the holidays. The reviews seemed great and we were excited to get to the restaurant early to watch the sunset. Our group was one of the first to get to the restaurant for a 5:45pm seating and the sunset did not disappoint. Unfortunately, the restaurant and its staff did. Our first table was outside on the patio, tucked into a corner with a nice view. However, after about 10 minutes we had to ask to move due to an overwhelming sewer smell coming from behind the nearby wall. Later that evening we watched as a second group seated in the same location had the same experience; they, too, moved. Our head waiter was not very educated on the menu and made several mistakes describing the dishes. From then on out, the entire experience was ridiculous. We were told the executive chef had just prepared a new menu for the day. Three out of seven of us ordered the spaghetti with kobe meatballs. The waiter came back to tell us that they had just run out of meatballs. Again, we were the first seating of the evening and, we did see others being served them later in the evening. We dined for 2.5 hours (not by choice) and the errors continued to happen: water wasn't refilled, drinks took over 45 minutes to get 2 separate times, kids' drinks were forgotten, they ran out of bread for the table, our head waiter never came back (which was a good thing) and a buss boy and another server stepped up to offer great service (I wish I had caught their names). Not once during the ongoing lack of service did a manager come over to apologize that they had run out of food or that we hadn't gotten the items we asked for. I understand things can happen out of their control but it's about the way that it's handled that makes a difference. This being said, the location was beautiful and it's a nice place to view the sunset. Food was average.
So disappointed!! Sarento’s has always been one of our favorite go to restaurants but during our last dinner with reservations at 5.30, our appetizers didn’t arrive until 7pm and dinner at 8pm. As this was during the holidays, the few cocktails we had went straight to our heads since the food took so long. Our waiter totally blew us off to wait on another large party that arrived after we did. Brandon, another employee, saved the evening by picking up where our waiter failed but since the larger party was able to order before us, we had to wait an additional 30 minutes on our main course since they took all the specialties. I hope the management sorts this out as I’ve seen other poor reviews recently. Sad
Really wanted to like this place. Went for a sunset dinner. Lovely location.
Service is based on a "wait team". We had one friendly and one surly waiter plus an eager busboy. Olive oil and vinegar is poured for you with the focaccia bread. It tasted rancid. Wine list is spendy (as is typical on the Islands) but the wine we ordered (and drank) didn't seem to match the label. Our salad was basic. We tried the gazpacho beet soup, but it had little in the way of tomatoes (the base seemed to be a beet vinegar), We had two entrees, one lovely and one inedible. Gave up at that point.
We had a wonderful "last evening in Maui" dinner! Front seat for the waves rolling in view and sound! GREAT interactive service with great food choices and explanations - helping us tune in just what we wanted to eat. The food choices were all tasty and when my choice of entree was sold out - a special combination was offered to be put together and was FABULOUS! Then, the waiter recommended the profiteroles......and WOW that was "over the top"!! WONDERFUL!
Hopefully we will be back in Maui again some day and be able to enjoy your wonderful restaurant and ambiance! Thanks for making our last night special!
Good happy-hour menu and drink selections. This restaurant's claim to fame is their waterfront location. After experiencing the happy-hour and the view, there is not much else to recommend. The bar staff during happy-hour were exceptional; however things quickly went downhill when seated for dinner. Our waiter was inattentive, the prices high, and the food quality mediocre at best. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone looking for anything other than a reasonably price happy-hour with a view.
Sadly the best thing here is the view. The service for our table was slow despite the restaurant being half full. The calamari was just ok- my husband's mixed grill arrived lukewarm and the accompanying risotto was overdone with cheese- my entree was the shrimp and scallops with gnocchi which was good, but not great. A lot to spend for a nice sunset view and mediocre food...
