Sardi's Ratings and Reviews
Food was very good, although service was extremely rushed to the point that it became frustrating. Then within a couple of hours after we left the restaurant, we received a "No Show" notice & warning from Open Table. I was livid that Sardi's had reported us as "no shows", after having spent an un-Godly amount for lunch, drinks, & desserts! I even offered to send copies of my receipts, but never heard back from Open Table (or Sardi's) --- which put a bitter taste in our mouths for the entire experience!
Service was lousy. We were seated when the place was empty, with a reservation, and put at a table directly in front of the door and path to the kitchen. Horrible. Service was not just bad but stupidly bad. You just don't treat patrons, in any place, so callously, it was very off putting and so disappointing. We dine out every day and just found it all so surreal from such a theatre district mainstay and restaurant business icon. Really, the staff was clearly poorly paid and poorly managed; the only explanation.
Overall it was a good dinner. We enjoyed the opportunity of having dinner at a well known restaurant. The only disappointment is that Sardis did not acknowledge that we reserved the reservation through open table. They said to us that they did but they did not .
Sardi's is located in the Theatre District of Manhattan, and as a NYC resident, I thought it would be a tourist-trap. However, I've been to Sardi's several times in the past year, and each dinner
was wonderful. We had a group of 5 at dinner the other night, and we were able to have conversations easily without too much ambient noise. The dinner was excellent, and I was very happy with the salmon entree. Don't stereotype Sardi's because it is so well known. It REMAINS a great place to have dinner before a Broadway show.
Sardi’s says theater like no place else in New York! The food, service, and ambiance are excellent, but its historical connection to the theater makes it a must for anyone going to a sbow. The caricatures of Broadway actors on its walls date back to the 1930’s. They make dining at Sardi’s fun. Off and on during the meal, you and your companions notice various caractures and try to guess who they are. They evoke many discussions of the actors’ shows, movies, and history of the era when they were active. Above the caricatures of Broadway actors are all the mayors of New York City. Many achieved national prominence. Their caractures appeal to anyone with an interest in politics, as well as the theater. I will add that you can get a mean martini and terrific Long Island Ice Tea there, as well.
The food was good, the service not so much. The host seated us at a table for two next to another table for 2 that actually had 3 people crowded around it . They were in our space (because the table was overcrowded) and were extremely loud and using profane language. There were many empty tables in the restaurant and I'm puzzled as to why the host would put us there. We were going to ask to be moved but they appeared to be at the end of their meal, which was our mistake.
We went to Sardi's with a group of friends to have lunch before a show . We had two tables of 6. We were seated promptly and had an awesome waiter. Our lunch and drinks were superb. 12 happy people who couldn't say enough about our experience . The manager greated us too and was super nice . Loved our lunch at Sardi's and would be back in a New York minute!
Our first trip to New York. Made pre-show reservations at Sardi's because it is an historical icon associated with the Broadway theater scene. The atmosphere is intriguing, with the hundreds of caricatures of actors, both theater and movie, music celebrities, and others on the walls. We were seated quickly, and our waitress greeted us quickly. One of her first questions was if we had show tickets and for what time; the restaurant will work to make sure your meal is served in time for you to make your show. The food was solid, good, tasty, but I would not call it exceptional or gourmet. It was my birthday, and I was surprised with a birthday slice of cheesecake, with a candle on top! Recommended for historical significance, solid food, and excellent service.
We had a DELICIOUS dinner before the theater. Service was outstanding. We came back after the theater for dessert---Baked Alaska--to celebrate a birthday. Of course, the dessert came with a lit candle so we could sing Happy Birthday. The staff was MOST accommodating with their birthday greetings and well wishes. This is ALWAYS a meal we include on our New York trips.
The service was very good
My beer was rather flat.
My pork chops were overdone and tough even though I asked for them to be medium rare. And the vegetables were not good either. The dressing over the chops was awful.
The warm chocolate cake was good but the ice cream with not,
My coffee was too strong with not enough milk in it. So I left most of it.
A friend recommended Sardi's for our pre Broadway show dinner and I was very happy with the meal and service, as well as access to theatres and Times Square afterward. It is upscale dining so be prepared for higher prices but the meal was great, definitely made to order by a chef. We had reservations and got right in even though we were a little early so that was nice. Wait time was minimal, food was hot and fresh, and we were also celebrating my daughter's birthday and they gave her a free dessert because of that. I would definitely recommend this place to friends/family
