We recently dined at the Sardine Factory for our 25th wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect, from the minute we walked in. The staff congratulated us, sat us at a lovely table in the beautiful Conservatory, and our server Orlando took excellent care of us. The abalone soup, scallops and veal were delicious, and we were treated to a very special chocolate cake dessert that was beyond good! The evening was worth every penny, just for how special they made us feel and for the beautiful ambiance. And of course the food was outstanding! We highly recommend this restaurant.
Food was adequate. Rooms have various ambiance -- Cozy (w fireplace) to open, (conservatory w plants/glass panes). Didn't think two single women should have been seated in smaller room. Provide options. Service was spot on.
Excellent venue.....we were seated in the conservatory room, as requested, to celebrate my husband’s birthday. So romantic! My husband had the filet mignon with bone marrow. I had the daily surf and turf special.....petite filet mignon with a colossal shrimp and bone marrow. The shrimp was like a mini lobster tail! Everything was cooked to perfection! The conservatory room is absolutely beautiful! Waitress was very friendly, but a little forgetful. They gave my husband a free socher torte dessert for his birthday and we also were able to use our 20% off coupon, which he received for his birthday. Would highly recommend this place!
This is an amazing restaurant for special occasions. From the moment you walk in the door, they make you feel like you are the sole patron in the restaurant. The food is over the top.. Cannot wait to return
Very old school establishment with lots of old character for restaurant that has evolved over decades changing nothing. Very kitchy restaurant with several different rooms. The type of restaurant where nothing changes decade after decade weather good or bad. Heavier delivery of seafood items, and most frustrating to Monterey Bay very difficult do find seafood that actually comes from local waters. Service was very friendly - ate late at bar. Food was heavily salted and lacked the kind of Cal cuisine many customers expect today vs. fried sauced preparation of yesteryear. Good experience, high price point for quality of experience, just understand expectations.
Beautiful lounge with a glass dome but unfortunately quite cold in the evening. Good food on the pricey side. Best Abalone I’ve ever had. For people who do not like fish, the meat dishes are excellent. Service is very good.
Would definitely go back, but with warmer clothes in case the weather is still cool.
This was our first time and will definitely return when back in Monterey. The staff was very attentive , especially Nathan our waiter. I had the lobster ravioli , which was amazing and my husband had the filet medallions which was also yummy. The inside has so much character. We were in the garden room. I definitely recommend this place !
The food was out of this world. I have been to the Sardine Factory many times, but the group I was with had not been in many years. I knew that I wanted the sanddabs and they did not disappoint. Out of this world. Oysters on the half shell to start. Just an awesome experience if you are anywhere in the Monterey area.
My wife and I spent our 6th Year Wedding Anniversary and it was satisfactory. My wife was very pleased with her food which was the Rib Eye Au Jus and lobster tail. On the other hand, I was very disappointed in my 16 oz rib eye and baked bone marrow, I asked for medium rare and they made it very well done and very salty! I wish I had better things to say about the Sardine Factory but my personal experience was a bad one. Thank you trying...
My Wife's B Day
We were pleasantly surprised at how nice and bright this restaurant was because when we entered d door, d restaurant was really dark.
Ordered abolone Bisque (salty cream soup with a lot of tiny bits which may or may not be abolone cos you cannot tell! + more than a hint of alcohol in d soup) , Lobster Mac & Cheese (was ok), Prime Rib (VERY peppery, so if you cannot take spicy food, not a good idea) with Baked Potato & Seared Scallops on Corn Polenta (there’s some heat to this dish too, but ok overall). For dessert, we ordered d chocolate bonbons cos our son likes d novelty of d dry ice.
Service was much better than the food in general.
The greeting from the minute we walked through the door to the time we left was exceptionally welcoming. The host Don was great to meet as was all the staff. The food was fantastic with a great variety. The wine list has so many at such varying prices made it something for everyone.
We only visited it due to seeing the Rick Stein program about california and were not disappointed.
On our list to revisit next time we are in the area.
My wife and I have been to the Sardine Factory on several occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. We especially love the Captains Room with a table in front of the fireplace. Our last time was May 16th for my birthday. We were the only ones in the Captains Room, a private dining experience. Excellent.
Felix’s attention to detail and service was wonderful! The food was beyond spectacular. I highly recommend the rack of lamb, but my sister-in-law would tell you to order the filet mignon medallions. Previous experiences there have been even more memorable, with a talented and informed sommelier and a great place for group business dinners. My only comment was that the assistant did not seem to know to clear the menus, when to top the water, or how to clear plates. We had to call him back to take them from all of us, not just one person.
Highly recommend...charming elegant formal dining. Lovely Atrium seating, service was perfectly attentive. But slightly disappointed in the food. It was good, but could be, and should be better. But overall evening was wonderful.
Not our first trip to Sardine Factory. Atmosphere is unique from the bar area to small dining rooms to the atrium. They are always adding something new and changing the menu for the season...the service was a touch less formal and more interactive which made the experience just as enjoyable. Only let down..lobster tail was very over cooked and rubber and my palette must not be sufficiently advanced..bone marrow definitely not again. But we’ll Be back
Excellent service. The food was deolicious. I would reccomend this for a special occasion or recommend bar seating for a less expensive option.
Don was great and the food awesome . Definitely we'll come back
good meal - fixed price menu - well prepared and served well
Mother's Day so very busy
I had an overall good experience but the host had an attitude. We had a 6pm reservation and he sat people that came in after us first. I approached him and asked how much longer and he had no idea who I was. I then stated the we needed to be sat at that moment and surprise, he had a table available. We were led out to a loud, bright, outdoor seating area which I did not like since we were there for Mother’s Day dinner and I wanted to have conversation. I asked for a different seat in the near empty dinning room which he had to ask first leaving us just standing there waiting. We were then seated in a nice location that had dimmer lighting and was quieter. I can only assume we were treated this way since we weren’t dressed up but I assure you I payed for my $366 meal in my jeans and flip flops just fine.
10 out of 10
We were there on Mother's Day. The staff was very solicitous and ready to accommodate us in every way. The food was outstanding and the ambience warm and uplifting since we were in the greenhouse. The only thing that spoiled the dinner was the table of four grammar school children sitting next to us. The two sets of parents sat on the other side of the room together having a nice quiet dinner while their children were giddy, laughing loudly and out of control during the entire meal. They should have been sitting with their own children and keeping them under control.
This place is usually great but the Mothers Day meal special was terrible. Undercooked steak, overcooked vegetables and shrimp, very long delays between courses, and then a generic reply cut and pasted to my Yelp review. Maybe someone else is running the place now?
Overall, the food was delicious, however, my companion ordered roast beef "rare", when it was served it was "well done", very disappointing. However, the staff was top notch, the atmosphere was happy.
This dinner was my wife and I to celebrate our 32nd anniversary. Let me start off with the bad. The food was so good and plentiful, that I almost ate myself into a food coma!!!! I left there stuffed!!! Our waiter Aaron was fantastic. Great sense of humor, almost like he and I clicked. We did our ordering, I had the rack of lamb my wife the abalone. I wont kid you, our bill was up there. But for me it was worth every penny.
Like always, they can be busy, so slow down, take your time and enjoy yourself. Dont go there if you have to be somewhere in a hurry. This is fine dining at a slower pace. Perfect! Leave your cell phone somewhere out of sight, enjoy your table mates company. Our waiter brought our appetizer over and made sure our drinks were full. He noticed it was taking a little longer than normal for our food, so he took it upon himself to order some sorbet to cleanse our pallet. I was surprised since this has never happened before. There was no charge for that. Just great service. Beside the waiter, the "busboy" staff was on top of everything, we didnt have to ask for anything.
We were in the solarium (the big glass room) for the ambiance and lighting. Caution, it can get a little noisy in there, so if you need a quiet room to dine, ask in advance. This is possibly the 10th time we've been there and I can guarantee we will go again.
Food good. Waiter would not split up entree abalone so we all could sample. Waiter presented bill before asking if we had any other requests. Also waiter kept coning to table to pick up bill even though we had not yet put our credit cards in bill folder.
We had a great experience.
The service was excellent and the food outstanding.
They have a great menu for fine dining and a great bar menu. Amazing food and service!
We live in Sacramento and we always eat at The Sardine Factory when we come to Monterey. It's one of our favorites!
We celebrated our engagement at Sardine Factory with family and had an amazing evening. Being a family in the industry we seek out fine restaurants for exceptional experiences and you delivered. Marissa gave us outstanding service throughout our evening every step of the way. Thank you for treating us to the palate cleanser in the beautiful ice swan they are so special and beautiful. Stephen served us a beautiful French Pinot Noir and gave us a very detailed and passionate tour of the cellar. Thank you again for a wonderful evening. Cat & Rob
Dinner on May 6, 2018. We went to Sardine Factory on a recommendation. I had scallops and my wife had the pasta with seafood. My dish was excellent, but my wife's was only fair. I thought that this was unusual in that it was supposed to be the house specialty. Service was quite good and the wine selection was huge. The wine recommendation was also very good.
Overpriced and preparation of food was uninspired (sand dabs, scallops ) and heavy (potatoes)with very bland sides-- cannot recommend
Food was excellent but the service was not what it should be. Server had too many tables to be attentive.
Everything was amazing
Overall a very nice restaurant ... Food excellently prepared and the service is superior from the parking lot to the host and the waiters ... The price is really high ... and that prevents casual dining .. We must have a special reason to go there...
Bon-bons were especially nice with a flare of dramatic !
We always enjoy the Sardine Factory, whether it is a special dinner in the Atrium or sitting in the bar listening to Dave play and sing. It's a great place to bring out of town guest too. We love the warm welcome Don provides and the relaxing atmosphere by the fire for a cocktail and then a quiet relaxing evening over a good meal. Sardine Factory always makes every attempt to please. I had the early dinner of lobster and it did not disappoint. Delicious lobster. And, we love love love the yeast rolls and the coffee. My husband for his birthday had veal and petite lobster off the regular menu, and definitely enjoyed his meal too. Also, note worthy was the waiter's assistant who serves the water, bread, and anything one might need. I wish I could remember his name as he was delightfully charming and always on top of it. Just goes to show that all who are employed by the Sardine Factory are there to make your evening enjoyable.
Thank you Sardine Factory,
Beautiful restaurant, impeccable service, great menu, wonderful food. If you have a budget constraint, they offer an early evening menu with quite a few choices, as well as their main menu with many options. I ordered filet mignon medallions. It was so tender, I was able to cut it with just my fork. The whole meal was wonderful. Everyone in my party enjoyed the food and whole dining experience here.
Very happy with Ab Bisque & Ab Medallions. Calamari steak great, but the scallops ‘burnt’ and the shrimp bad.
Tour of the cellar was stellar! 1/2 bottle of Goldeneye for $60 fantastic and lemontinis top drawer.
The place is great for a romantic get together with your significant other, or just have a good time,
It is one of my favorite places in the area. We always get the best service and the food is excellent. It is an institution in Monterey and a place everyone should visit at least once.
