Sardine Factory Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was in a great location and easy to walk to from our hotel. As soon as we entered the maître d’ was excellent at finding us a table that was comfortable and the temperature of the room was fantastic. The food came out a little too quick and the service at certain moments felt a little bit too rushed but that can be the temok Of a restaurant depending on which one that you got it. Overall I would take any of my friends here and family. One tiny disappointing factor was although the name is sardine there is literally only one dish that has two or three sardines in it.
Our service was amazing. But was disappointed with the price of the food compared to its quality. The calimari app was $19 and was not all that great..it's something that can be ordered from a chain restaurant quality. My husband's fillet mignon was amazing. My prime rib and lobster was just ok..again something from a chain food reaturant. Their bread rolls were amazing.
We have been going to Monterey for many years but thought it was a little too pricey. It was a cute find. Everyone was so accommodating and friendly. The meal was delicious. My only suggestion is that they should have the bar and lounge area open before 5 p.m. say 4:30 while people who are having an earlier dinner can relax and enjoy the ambiance prior to dinner. We definitely would go back to this restaurant.
The ealy bird Prix Fixe dinner is always a great way to start three courses reasonably and be able to afford some really nice wines and cocktails and perhaps add some great appetizers. We ordered the Prix Fixe and our son ordered off the menu. Everything was excellent. Food, wine, cocktails and service. We were very saddened to learn that our longtime friend Johnny the wine guy had retired, but we were pleased by his replacement Stephen who was just as friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Looking forward to many more years at the Factory.
Has been a go to in Monterey for many years. Food is very rich by today's standards, but very tasty! Dining rooms are each a different experience. The wine cave private dining room is very cool,. and the atrium is great for a Sunday brunch. The ornate French style room is elegant for that special date. Rooms are elegant, but a little dated.
We had the Pri Fixe Thanksgiving dinner and our Waitress Rachel was very Sweet , Accomodating and Attentive . The Maitre De was also Genuinely Polite and Considerate in our seating . Our table Busser was also very efficient without being intrusive . Over all quite Pleasant an Evening.
It was Thanksgiving so we had the set menu. The soup was very good. The salad was just so-so and mine arrived without any blue cheese but they brought some. Later, when we were paying, we noticed another table was offered pepper and chilled salad forks which we were not offered. The turkey itself was very good, gravy nice, stuffing was overly seasoned, veggies delicious and perfectly cooked, potatoes were nice as well. Star of the meal was by far the potato rolls. Outstanding. Dessert was pumpkin pie and creme brulee. Both were adequate. We were sat in a horrible spot which was basically a busy through-way. We didn't realize it until we were well into soup coarse but having made this Open Table res so far in advance, I would have thought we would be given a better seat. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar prior so it wasn't that we were late and I know we could have said something but we just didn't realize it would be that way.
There were a lot of options to check off on that deserved a check but since we do not drink socially we could not answer everything. Sardine factory does not open early enough for an afternoon coffee or tea so we do not understand why that was listed. What is "Paleo", Tapas ?
I took my mom to The Sardine Factory for an afternoon Thanksgiving meal. I asked if there was any place a little more quiet as my mom is hard of hearing; especially so in busy restaurants. They kindly sat us in a lovely room with 5 tables at the front of the restaurant. It was perfect! We each enjoyed a beverage from the bar as we asked to wait just a bit before ordering our meal and they gladly accommodated our request. The Thanksgiving meal was quite good with the exception of the green beans which were undercooked. We completed our meal with the best pumpkin pie we had ever had along with a pot of freshly made decaf coffee. The wait staff were absolutely lovely to us and I was pleased to pay the bill; a little pricey but well worth it. I highly recommend The Sardine Factory if you are seeking a fine dining experience.
Before my husband passed away 3 years ago we went to the Sardine Factory quite often, and always loved it. So when my two children and two grandchildren came for Thanksgiving this year, I thought I would treat them to a great dinner there. I am sorry to tell you that I was very disappointed. I was the only one who ordered the set dinner, and I am glad the rest of them ordered off the regular menu..they enjoyed their meal (for which I am very happy..I wanted them to have a wonderful experience).
My soup came very late, when the others had been served their salad. My salad never came until finally my daughter told the bus boy after everyone else was served their steaks. My turkey dinner was a mess on the plate with turkey pieces intermixed with something - I think potato with gravy over all. Very unappetizing, I'm sorry to say. I did bring it home in a box, and enjoyed the turkey. I don't enjoy complaining, but felt (since you asked), you would want to know. Sincerely, Julie Greene
Ordered a $59 steak, cooked medium. It was received well done. What a waste of expensive steak. Family of four and three of us are gluten free. We ordered from gluten free menu. Steak was received with some very tasty looking onion crunches on top which we thought not gluten free and upon asking the waiter about them, he responded, "I can take it to the chef and have him remove them". Really - How about you ask the chef if they are gluten free or not because I would like to eat them. Our server was arrogant and spending this much $ on food, which I would compare to ponderosa, was not a pleasant experience. I hate paying for expensive meals and this restaurant is yet another reason. For the cost of meals, the customer should be treated with respect and we did not feel that at all. Our son ordered clam fettuccini and two of the clams had a very disgusting, inedible muscle inside. Overall, this meal was definitely not worth the cost. A $59 steak should be cooked perfectly. Our waiter up sold us to an $11 salad and $8 french fries which we assumed came with the entree. We felt cheated for sure, all around for our meal. What a shame.
Loved the wine; liked the warm bread and spreads; my entree had a somewhat unusual flavor, but my husband’s was quite good. The room was noisy, yet we choose it over the smaller, quieter room with tighter seating. I would try it again ... probably for lunch instead.
The prime rib was tough. The diver scallops were excellent. The service was outstanding. The prices are really high. This is the type of famous restaurant that provides excellent service, but not always the food to match the prices.
Has been a few years since we were last there since then they have remodeled . It's much brighter and fresh inside, you also have dinning room options but must ask for the different diningroom choices. The service was on point and the food was excellent and fresh. We will continue to visit the Sardine Factory when in Monterey.
Well, I’m guessing people go to this restaurant for what it used to be. The half-bottles of wine were overpriced and the food was nothing to write home about. It was a disappointing >$200 tab and I didn’t even order an entree after I tasted the appetizer. If you know good food and wine, go somewhere else or face disappointment.
We went to the Sardine Factory to celebrate a birthday and wedding anniversary. It was a wonderful evening of great food and service. The entire team truly made us feel like we were the "most important people in the world". I look forward to our next visit!
We ate in the Captain's room which vey nice and quiet. The food was excellent and the variety of dishes was outstanding. All of the food items ordered by the four of us was extremely delicious. We will definitely return to this fabulous jewel within Cannery Row.
Always the best dinning experience great food but even better service. We try to eat here when we are in Monetary and it never disappoints. The only other restaurant that I know with this quality of service is the Hobit in the OC. The wine list is quite extensive, but don't worry Steven will help you make a selection for your taste. My only regret is we live so far away.
We came for the wine list and stayed for the piano man. We ate our way through Monterey and had to take in the Sardine Factory experience. We were seated in the Conservatory, which is pure magic, and presented with perfect service. The wine list is everything they said it would be, and the food was delicious. The oysters Rockefeller we so rich and scrumptious!
Vacationing in Monterey and had our 10 year wedding anniversary here. The staff went above and beyond. We sat in the conservatory room which was quiet and romantic. Started off with the cheesy bread (which we should have skipped because I could not finish my dinner). Husband had prime rib and said it was the best he ever had. I had a pasta dish with shrimp which was delicious but filling. After dinner we sat in the lounge/bar area with the piano man. Had so much fun!!
