Sardine Factory Ratings and Reviews
We went for a nice quiet meal. The one fancy meal we get a year. The dinner started off at almost 11pm when our reservation was at 1030. and there is a group there with a small child making ALOT of noise and throwing fits. Finally after an hour they left. Then a new group took their table and got their food before us!! We were there over 2 hours with little service. And when we got our food my husbands steak and lobster was cold. They acted like we were low class second citizens. And we started off buying a $100 bottle of champagne! You would think that would at least show that we don’t mind spending the money. And then if that wasn’t bad enough at 1145 they gave everyone noise makers and it turned the experience into a chucky cheese dinner. Non stop noise to where we couldn’t even talk to each other. Worst experience ever at a supposed high class restaurant.
The Abe-lone dish was terrible and very expensive.
The restaurant felt very crowded, seats were very close together, which made the noisy atmosphere even harder to deal with. The menu seamed very limited, try the Chart House or the Grotto you will be better served for less money.
We went for the special New Years Eve dinner. It was a good choice— an elegant restaurant, friendly attentive staff, great selection of wine & drinks, and a good prix fixe menu for the occasion. We had a couple of small issues: the lobster was slightly undercooked and the bill was wrong ( $24 overcharge for salads that were supposed to be part of the prix fixe meal, which the waiter corrected when it was brought to his attention.) It was not cheap ($250+ for dinner for two with drinks, tax and tip) but it was a great way to celebrate the new year!
This was a second date, New Year's Eve. The menu was varied but seafood-forward, which is fine with me. The quality of the dishes, ingredients, presentation, was outstanding. The crab cakes, in particular, were exceptional. Service was friendly, charming, and accommodating. This is not a cheap night out by any stretch of the imagination, but for some very, very good food, great welcoming and warm staff, and a unique ambience, this is a great date spot.
I have always held the Sardine Factory in the highest esteem and have been a customer for the years past.
Every year I bring my daughter to Monterey to enjoy and celebrate Christmas. The ambiance is outstanding and food usually to match. This year was a huge disappointment though. Seating was perfect and in the Captain's dining room. The dinner was the daily special, which consisted of a stuffed prawn with crab meat and a filet mignon. My daughter also had a special, which was swordfish. My stuff prawn was "OK", but the filet was "mealy", or having the consistency of liver. My daughter's swordfish was flavorless and dry. We were both disappointed as our dinner at the Sardine Factory would be normally the highlight of our week stay. When I told the waiter about my disappointment with our dinner his only response was, "I'll pass it on to the Chef."
I am going to send my review to the Sardine Factory and hope I get a better response then I received from our waiter.
Sardine Factory is a beautiful restaurant with lovely decor and ambiance. The seafood choices were awesome, tasty, and beautifully prepared. The service was excellent. We were served two different wines and they went perfectly with our appetizers and entrees. The clientele appeared to be a mix of families, couples, groups of friends, and several young couples with very small children. The atmosphere is festive and engaging. This was our third visit to the Sardine Factory and we plan to return when we next visit Monterey.
The restaurant was in a great location and easy to walk to from our hotel. As soon as we entered the maître d’ was excellent at finding us a table that was comfortable and the temperature of the room was fantastic. The food came out a little too quick and the service at certain moments felt a little bit too rushed but that can be the temok Of a restaurant depending on which one that you got it. Overall I would take any of my friends here and family. One tiny disappointing factor was although the name is sardine there is literally only one dish that has two or three sardines in it.
Our service was amazing. But was disappointed with the price of the food compared to its quality. The calimari app was $19 and was not all that great..it's something that can be ordered from a chain restaurant quality. My husband's fillet mignon was amazing. My prime rib and lobster was just ok..again something from a chain food reaturant. Their bread rolls were amazing.
We have been going to Monterey for many years but thought it was a little too pricey. It was a cute find. Everyone was so accommodating and friendly. The meal was delicious. My only suggestion is that they should have the bar and lounge area open before 5 p.m. say 4:30 while people who are having an earlier dinner can relax and enjoy the ambiance prior to dinner. We definitely would go back to this restaurant.
The ealy bird Prix Fixe dinner is always a great way to start three courses reasonably and be able to afford some really nice wines and cocktails and perhaps add some great appetizers. We ordered the Prix Fixe and our son ordered off the menu. Everything was excellent. Food, wine, cocktails and service. We were very saddened to learn that our longtime friend Johnny the wine guy had retired, but we were pleased by his replacement Stephen who was just as friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Looking forward to many more years at the Factory.
Has been a go to in Monterey for many years. Food is very rich by today's standards, but very tasty! Dining rooms are each a different experience. The wine cave private dining room is very cool,. and the atrium is great for a Sunday brunch. The ornate French style room is elegant for that special date. Rooms are elegant, but a little dated.
We had the Pri Fixe Thanksgiving dinner and our Waitress Rachel was very Sweet , Accomodating and Attentive . The Maitre De was also Genuinely Polite and Considerate in our seating . Our table Busser was also very efficient without being intrusive . Over all quite Pleasant an Evening.
It was Thanksgiving so we had the set menu. The soup was very good. The salad was just so-so and mine arrived without any blue cheese but they brought some. Later, when we were paying, we noticed another table was offered pepper and chilled salad forks which we were not offered. The turkey itself was very good, gravy nice, stuffing was overly seasoned, veggies delicious and perfectly cooked, potatoes were nice as well. Star of the meal was by far the potato rolls. Outstanding. Dessert was pumpkin pie and creme brulee. Both were adequate. We were sat in a horrible spot which was basically a busy through-way. We didn't realize it until we were well into soup coarse but having made this Open Table res so far in advance, I would have thought we would be given a better seat. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar prior so it wasn't that we were late and I know we could have said something but we just didn't realize it would be that way.
There were a lot of options to check off on that deserved a check but since we do not drink socially we could not answer everything. Sardine factory does not open early enough for an afternoon coffee or tea so we do not understand why that was listed. What is "Paleo", Tapas ?
I took my mom to The Sardine Factory for an afternoon Thanksgiving meal. I asked if there was any place a little more quiet as my mom is hard of hearing; especially so in busy restaurants. They kindly sat us in a lovely room with 5 tables at the front of the restaurant. It was perfect! We each enjoyed a beverage from the bar as we asked to wait just a bit before ordering our meal and they gladly accommodated our request. The Thanksgiving meal was quite good with the exception of the green beans which were undercooked. We completed our meal with the best pumpkin pie we had ever had along with a pot of freshly made decaf coffee. The wait staff were absolutely lovely to us and I was pleased to pay the bill; a little pricey but well worth it. I highly recommend The Sardine Factory if you are seeking a fine dining experience.
Before my husband passed away 3 years ago we went to the Sardine Factory quite often, and always loved it. So when my two children and two grandchildren came for Thanksgiving this year, I thought I would treat them to a great dinner there. I am sorry to tell you that I was very disappointed. I was the only one who ordered the set dinner, and I am glad the rest of them ordered off the regular menu..they enjoyed their meal (for which I am very happy..I wanted them to have a wonderful experience).
My soup came very late, when the others had been served their salad. My salad never came until finally my daughter told the bus boy after everyone else was served their steaks. My turkey dinner was a mess on the plate with turkey pieces intermixed with something - I think potato with gravy over all. Very unappetizing, I'm sorry to say. I did bring it home in a box, and enjoyed the turkey. I don't enjoy complaining, but felt (since you asked), you would want to know. Sincerely, Julie Greene
