While we enjoyed the food, we thought the portions were rather small given the price of the dishes and the restaurant really nickel and dimed the patron. For example we paid $4 for 2 very small pieces of Naan and $4 for a portion of white rice. Don't think we will be coming back any time soon.
The best Indian in NYC. We loved it so much, went back twice!
This is one of the two restaurants we regularly go to before attending a performance at Lincoln Center. Very good Indian food in a restaurant with nice décor. Good value for the area.
Wonderful food and service. Lovely Indian fabrics and carvings are displayed. Great value and highly recommended!
This was not up to par. Soup not good. Some dishes too Spicey to eat. Been here before but this meal was unacceptable
Food is reliable. If they had a coat check it would be nice.
We dined at Sapphire before the opera the other night. The food and service were both very good as usual. Great place for Indian food near Lincoln Center and our go - to restaurant whenever we are attending a performance. Ambiance is wonderful with great, comfy banquettes.
We have gone to Sapphire many times in the past. On this occasion it was late in the evening, and the restaurant on a Monday night was pretty empty, but the Indian cuisine was as uual, excellent, the service was very good and we enjoyed the experience.
Sapphire has some of the best Indian food in NYC. It's close to Lincoln Center, so is an excellent choice for dinner before a performance. The service is professional, friendly and helpful if you are unfamiliar with Indian food. I highly recommend it.
Sapphire Indian is one of our favorite places to eat out. The food is quite authentic and frankly, we think the best Indian food you can get for miles. And we lived in Pakistan and travelled to India, so not saying that lightly. Great waiter service and really nice looking place. The sapphorito drink is not only pretty, but delicious. We particularly love their samosas and nan, and mughlai lamb....have not had anything I did not love in fact. Great place.
Sapphire is a great location if you'r going to Jazz at Lincoln Center or if you want to be in the Columbus Circle area.
We sat at a quiet table by the window and the ambience is lovely, in the theme of the Indian cuisine.
However, the waiter was not very informative about ingredients, I thought that my mango shrimp dish was overly sweet with 4 large but mealy textured shrimp and no rice or garnish,
the mixed tandoori dish was dry, we had to flag down a waiter to get a second glass of wine.
We intended to order dessert , but there was such a lag in service that we thought that it was better to just try and get the check.
Good food. Attentive service. Nice place to eat before going to Lincoln Center.
very tasty - we ordered a number of dishes and were pleased with all - i'm not a big fan of Indian food but did enjoy this meal very much - the ambiance is also very nice
Great very good quality Indian food with super attentive service. Great for family dinners.
Excellent, and attentive service; consistently high quality, well prepared meals.
Good food and plenty of it. I had the lobster and my companion had the salmon and we both were very satisfied. The only glitch was the waiter; he seemed awfully grumpy.
The food was very good but the portions were ridiculously tiny.
Uno de los mejores restaurantes indios de New York, lo hemos visitado por años, y la calidad siempre se mantiene inmejorable.
Sapphire is a reliable pre-Lincoln Center dining choice, serving a wide variety of tasty Indian dishes at a fair price.
As Indian food goes, this was mediocre, and quite dry. Wait staff was attentive but kept rushing us. It's annoying to have them try to clear away dishes before people have clearly finished eating!
We ate pre-opera. The service was timely, and the food was even better than at previous occasions.
Excellent Indian food in a quiet atmosphere (suitable for conversation!). Very attentive service. Conveniently located near Lincoln Center.
I love the vegetarian menu. The wait staff is always professional and make you feel welcome. My third time here and not my last.
Great food, attentive service. Our waiter made some great recommendations. We'll be back.
The food was excellent and the recommendations from our waiter were spot on. We will definitely go back.
Excellent food, never crowded or noisy. Very attentive friendly service.
Very enjoyable. Greeting was gracious. Food was really delicious. Hope to go there again soon.
consistently very good food and great service. We have been coming here for years and love it.
Second visit, both pre-theater at Lincoln Center. Arrived early but was promptly seated while waiting for dinner guest. The staff is all male (why? seems to be a feature of some Indian restaurants I've visited); the men who bring water and clear plates etc are polite but very formal which is a bit disconcerting. The waiter was very friendly. Food was good - combination of fish and vegetarian apps and main courses. Décor is a bit dated but everything was clean and neat. Bathroom was very clean too. Able to complete meal in plenty of time for 7:30 curtain. Would return.
The dining room was quite loud. The delivery drivers were back and forth through the restaurant during our entire meal and the food was mediocre at best. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, which should be a home-run for any legit Indian restaurant. Instead, they had clearly pre-cooked some chicken breasts in the oven and dropped them into the sauce just before putting it on the table. The chicken was dry, not dark meat cooked in the sauce as it should have been. The shrimp appetizer was not edible. The samosas tasted like the oil hadn't been changed in the fryer in months. Overall this was a disappointing experience.
We've dined at Sapphire numerous times and always enjoyed our experiences. This time service was poor. We sat at the bar first; that waiter was attentive, pleasant and a good server. When taken to our table the waiter was bordering unfriendly. Food did come quickly and was adequate. However, no one checked our table while we ate. Not once were water glasses refilled. Mine was empty. We waited awhile for dessert menus; not even then was my glass filled. We ordered kulfi for dessert. It wasn't a true kulfi but kulfi flavored ice cream.
Unfortunately we won't be returning. New York City is filled with so many good dining experiences.
Excellent food, a bit pricy, though. The menu posted online is not the same menu in the restaurant.
The food was very nice (garlic naan was outstanding) but somewhat over priced considering the ingredients and portions. Nice dining room and service, but the coffe we ordered was so terrible that we had to go to a Starbucks for an espresso. And I don’t even like Starbucks.
Not many reasonably priced dining choices so near to Lincoln Center. Sapphire is a pretty good bet for pre-Lincoln Center events.
I love this place. I would go here for the Mango Margaritas alone. The food is good, too.
Best Indian food in the Upper West Side/Columbus Circle. We eat here more than any single local restaurant ... And for us that includes crossing the GWB.
Why? The dishes are extremely tasty and consistently well prepared. The service is exceptional and the atmosphere is clean and classy.
Highly recommend this to anyone looking for delicious food in the UWS.
My wife and I were happy to be enjoying dinner at one of our favorite Indian restaurants, following a truly special concert at the Philharmonic. It was still early, and of course the noise level was favorably affected by that. We were familiar with the menu and chose several of our favorites, including the scallop appetizer and the Mango Shrimp. Service was impeccable and friendly, which, understandably, is not always the case at a later hour.
This is one of my favorite restaurants near Lincoln Center. It was perhaps an off-night.
Favorite place for dining before a symphony or opera performance. Excellent food and attentive service. Try Saphire Dahl.
