Sapphire continues to offer delicious and civilized dining in the Lincoln Center neighborhood. The staff are sensitive to theater and concert start times and make sure that patrons get to their seats on time. We always enjoy the appetizers, especially the onion bhaji and fried cauliflower, , the vegetarian options and the chicken mahrani, as well as the alu paratha and garlic naan.

My comments are based on a weekday buffet lunch. Quick bite because with the buffet your food is ready immediately. Pre-theatre because it's fairly convenient for matinées. Gluten-free but more for people watching gluten intake than people with celiac disease. I'm vegetarian so can't speak to meat dishes. Veggie dishes seem on a par with other decent Indian buffets, not oily but not refined. I've been there before and would return.

Sapphire is a very appealing friendly low-key Indian restaurant . Attractive atmosphere. Good food but relatively quiet...and that peaceful ambiance is hard to find these days. The baby lamb chops are a mist appetizer, and the large shrimps were also good. We also had vindaloo beef , yellow dal, and saffron chicken. Rich authentic seasonings; hot but not too hot. Service was good. Great place to dine before Lincoln Center.

Three times I have been to Sapphire having made reservations on Open Table. Each time my husband and I were seated far away in an obscure corner of the room. We had to hail a waiter to get waited on. I watched as other diners arrived. They were seated in nice areas near other tables and were waited on long before we were. I think Sapphire was treating us poorly because we booked on Open Table. It’s too bad because this is a nice restaurant. But there are many more Indian restaurants to choose from. I won’t be back.

The food here never fails and is always good. Items are always delivered hot to the table. Service is very attentive. Only criticism is tables are shoe horned in. You better like the people next to you (we didn't because of loud, foul & obnoxious chatter ) because you're on top of one another.

Dinner at Sapphire was excellent. as always. It's great at lunch, too, when they have a buffet. Close to Lincoln Center and that's a plus.

It was quite full so it was quite noisy. And unusually, the waiter waited to serve dinner until we asked for it...and then it came promptly. My favorite is the Baigan Bharta...and it changes almost each time. Sometimes it is more tasty than other times. This last week it was lumpy and not in the top ten. But thatg was made up for by the mango shrimp. Wow...those are award winning shrimp!!

We love this place as (a) it’s just around the corner and (b) it has great food! The service is also usually pretty good. We sometimes also get take-out from here.

It is a bit pricier than most Indian restaurants in NYC, but the variety and quality are high, and the service was wonderful without being cloying.

On the buffet, food was excellent and high quality, not a huge variety but enough and what there was was good, and not a crowded wait (never more than a minute). Always have a chicken curry, a lamb curry, tandoori chicken and veggie options for lunch.

We've been to Sapphire many times before a performance at Lincoln Center. This was the first time we didn't enjoy our dinners. Hopefully they were just having an off night. The tandoori shrimp was much spicier than expected. The tandoori salmon was ok but not that tasty. Entrees are decent size but appetizers here have always been small (portions are larger at Westchester Indian restaurants where we always share 1 appetizer; here we always get 2 appetizers).

Disappointing. Our two vegetarian dishes were nebbish. Not spicy, and as an earlier review said, the spinach was watery, not rich. Appetizers were OK, but even one of those that we had elsewhere was not as good as at other places. And the service was inattentive compared to normal for an expensive Indian restaurant - wine was not poured in a timely way, for example (it was in a remote ice bucket so we were dependent on the waiter.) The modest "neighborhood Indian" place near me is better, and I don't live in a super-upscale neighborhood.

Three friends meeting for dinner appreciated the more quiet experience i.e., we did not strain to hear each other. The food was very good and the prices reasonable. Waiters weren‘t eager to help us with our selections — actually, a bit short with us.

Sapphire is a good pre-performance option for those attending events at Lincoln Center. Plenty of vegetarian options for non-meat-eaters, and a solid take on traditional Indian cuisine.

Delicious food, although my partner mentioned the eggplant dish was a bit bitter. My dal was lovely. Only negative is overpriced for Indian cuisine and it irks me when you have to pay extra for rice. You cannot eat curry or most if the dishes without rice. They should be included.

Food and service is always amazing. Quiet enough for a date or friendly conversation. Love their Mango Margarita. Extensive wine list and very good cocktails. Service is quick and friendly. Usually more than one person helping with table so water is filled, food is quick and partially served for you. I've never done the buffet but that also looks like a great option.

Sapphire offers a dining experience that is rare to find in the Lincoln Center area. A friend and I had dinner there before a performance. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, and my friend came up with the creative idea of sharing five appetizers, along with raita and naan. This was an inspired choice as we were able to sample many different items. The portions were perfect to make for a satisfying dinner. The noise level was such that we were actually able to have a conversation without shouting at each other. Only thing--watch for the two steps down to the bar area on your way to the exit: I wasn't paying attention and saw only one of them, which ended in a fall. Thankfully, no damage was done and I was able to walk to the theater. Maybe more lighting in that area?

Nobody smiled! Not rude but not friendly either.

Pricing was in line with other restaurants

Vegetarian Paneer dish was sweet and watery. The gravy should be somewhat thick/rich ours was watery. Did I mention the dish was sweet.

Sapphire daal was too thick

Waiters served the food to plate for other patrons in the restaurant but no such service for us...wonder why?

Wouldn't come back.

I've been coming to Sapphire for many years now, and it's easy to see why this restaurant has been in business for so long. Every single time I've dined here, the food and service were outstanding. The ambience is very warm and inviting, and the volume is always comfortable for intimate conversation. The location is absolutely perfect with close proximity to Lincoln Center, Columbus Circle, and many other venues.

I look forward to many more visits to Sapphire in the future!

What a wonderful meal! We started with somosas. My husband had the sea bass which was excellent and I ordered the appetizer portion of the lamb chops which were SUBLIME. My husband had the chocolate cinnamon ice cream (yum) and I had the flavorful, milky rasmali. Excellent meal and first class service as well

We always love our dinners at Sapphire and because we are often in NYC and stay at a nearby hotel, Sapphire is high on our list of preferred dining options. I'm crazy about their eggplant dishes and okra...even people who think they don't like okra, love Sapphire's version of it.
If you want really good Indian food, this is your place!

Food Was Great, Service was attentive. Out only complaint was they kept trying to clear the table every time we took a break from eating. Just about every employee in the restaurant asked us if we were done. They didn't really understand the lingering. Place was not packed and people were not waiting for tables, so not sure what the rush was about.

Just a few thoughts. Recommended by a friend who is a regular. I am a long-time fan of Indian food. Came here for my birthday with my two brothers. If the authenticity of an ethnically specific restaurant can be judged partially by whether people of that ethnicity eat there, we were happy to see that perhaps 50% of the clientele on a light to medium night was Indian, including couples, business people, and families.

Once we settled in, we were at first a bit surprised (and annoyed) to find that the prices on the menu were ~$2 higher than the ones posted on the website. But we figured that was not exactly "new," so we forged ahead.

The food ended up being terrific: everything was very flavorful, the right temperature, and served nicely. Also, one of my pet peeves of many restaurants (particularly Indian) is that even when the portions are large, they never give enough of whatever sauce it comes with. Here, the portions were perhaps a tad small, but the fact that they were generous with the sauce more than balanced that out.

All in all, we ended up enjoying ourselves: loved the food, loved the comparatively quiet atmosphere and gentle ambience, and walked out quite satisfied, the price differential long forgotten. Will definitely go back, and would definitely recommend.
