I love this place. I would go here for the Mango Margaritas alone. The food is good, too.

Best Indian food in the Upper West Side/Columbus Circle. We eat here more than any single local restaurant ... And for us that includes crossing the GWB.

Why? The dishes are extremely tasty and consistently well prepared. The service is exceptional and the atmosphere is clean and classy.

Highly recommend this to anyone looking for delicious food in the UWS.

My wife and I were happy to be enjoying dinner at one of our favorite Indian restaurants, following a truly special concert at the Philharmonic. It was still early, and of course the noise level was favorably affected by that. We were familiar with the menu and chose several of our favorites, including the scallop appetizer and the Mango Shrimp. Service was impeccable and friendly, which, understandably, is not always the case at a later hour.

This is one of my favorite restaurants near Lincoln Center. It was perhaps an off-night.

Favorite place for dining before a symphony or opera performance. Excellent food and attentive service. Try Saphire Dahl.

I've been going to Sapphire for years whenever I'm in the Columbus Circle neighborhood. The best thing about it is its consistency! You will never get a bad meal there, the service will be attentive but not too flashy, and the food will be high quality. If you go pre-performance at J@LC, they will get you in and out with plenty of time to spare. It is a very solid option overall.

I always enjoy dining at this elegant establishment. It is brightly lit, civilized clientele, and, most importantly, food is excellent. Service is great, and you don't need to worry about picking up cooking odors like you might have experienced at other ethnic food restaurant. Highly recommended.

Reception by staffmember who may have been the owner was quite unfriendly, and it took a long time before anyone came to our table. It was a very cold day and even though we were seated far away from windows and door it was cold enough so that one of us had to put on her coat. Letting the staff know that it was too cold brought no response. Pluses are that the restaurant is usualy quiet and there are good vegan choices.

The food here is consistently very good. The lamb chops are outstanding. A family favorite. My rating is lower than usual because the restaurant was just cold. Everyone sat around with their coats on. Asked them to turn up heating but they told us it is not theirs to control. Chicken Marsala is also a favorite.

We love Indian food and this was very good. The service was fantastic as was the food. We would definitely return the next time we are in NYC. My only complaint was having to pay $6 for plain, white rice.....doesn't that usually come with you entree?

The food was great as always and the service was excellent. Tried a new salmon dish which was wonderful. The waiter had the kitchen adjust the sauce on one of the meals to accommodate an aversion to onions. The restaurant's close proximity to Lincoln Center was a real plus as it was freezing outside.

One of our favorites near Lincoln Center, Sapphire provides consistently good food in very pleasant surroundings. The portions are a little small, the prices are a little high and the service can be a little slow. However, the food is delicious and presented well, and they'll get you out in time for your show or nearby movie. Plus, unlike so many other restaurants these days, you can actually have a conversation at the table without shouting over the music. We have never been disappointed with a meal at Sapphire and plan to return again and again.

Wonderful ambiance. Space broken up so noise level is reduced. Nice, attentive wait staff and management. Food was good - loved the Naan (bread) and ice cream flavors (fig ice cream was amazing) especially. Nice classy place with good food at reasonable prices. We stayed for 3 hours and were not rushed out. I will definitely go here again.

Since it is 2 times the cost of typical Indian restaurants, you would expect the food to be much better than it is. The menu states each diner must have a minimum of $25 in food, which is unusual, to say the least. We had concert tickets at Lincoln Center and literally were running to the concert, since our grim faced waiter dragged his feet in giving us the bill and we had to have the maitre d intervene. The combination of high cost [$91 for 2 chicken entrees, only one glass of wine, no appetizers, and one dessert], just ok food, and unpleasant waitstaff means we will not return. The restaurant was only one third full, so other diners may have come to a similar conclusion.

It been a few years since I visited at Sapphire and early in the meal I was reminded of the reason.

The food was good. The overall experience very poor.

Despite the restaurant being more than half empty, waiters came our table at great and annoying frequency asking if they could clear our plates. I typically welcome an attentive waiter, though these numerous visits to our table took place while the various courses was still being consumed, literally minutes after being placed on the table. The experience feels rude and rushed. Were the restaurant bustling, with a line of waiting patrons, this sort of behavior would have been somewhat understandable. As mentioned, the place was more than half empty.

To conclude the experience, the waiter hovered over our table as I was making payment, carefully studying the tip amount. Again, not exactly professional.

I will not be coming back.

We were a little disappointed on our latest visit to this restaurant. We both had Tandori dishes. Although the food was tasty, it seemed over cooked. Meats and fish were a little tough and not moist, dried out

We had reservations through open table and arrived a few minutes early. Although our reservation was for two people we were seated at a table for three with a reserved placard on the table. After we had settled in and reviewed the menu we were told by management that we had to move to a table in the back of the restaurant because this table was reserved for someone else! No apology or offer of compensation in the form of a free beverage or appetizer was offered for the inconvenience..in fact the tone of voice was rude. At the end of the meal the wine glass was grabbed out of the hand of one of the guests. This used to be our go to place when attending performances at Lincoln Center...but no more. Making guests feel welcome is an essential part of the dining experience.

Sapphire continues to offer delicious and civilized dining in the Lincoln Center neighborhood. The staff are sensitive to theater and concert start times and make sure that patrons get to their seats on time. We always enjoy the appetizers, especially the onion bhaji and fried cauliflower, , the vegetarian options and the chicken mahrani, as well as the alu paratha and garlic naan.

My comments are based on a weekday buffet lunch. Quick bite because with the buffet your food is ready immediately. Pre-theatre because it's fairly convenient for matinées. Gluten-free but more for people watching gluten intake than people with celiac disease. I'm vegetarian so can't speak to meat dishes. Veggie dishes seem on a par with other decent Indian buffets, not oily but not refined. I've been there before and would return.

Sapphire is a very appealing friendly low-key Indian restaurant . Attractive atmosphere. Good food but relatively quiet...and that peaceful ambiance is hard to find these days. The baby lamb chops are a mist appetizer, and the large shrimps were also good. We also had vindaloo beef , yellow dal, and saffron chicken. Rich authentic seasonings; hot but not too hot. Service was good. Great place to dine before Lincoln Center.

Three times I have been to Sapphire having made reservations on Open Table. Each time my husband and I were seated far away in an obscure corner of the room. We had to hail a waiter to get waited on. I watched as other diners arrived. They were seated in nice areas near other tables and were waited on long before we were. I think Sapphire was treating us poorly because we booked on Open Table. It’s too bad because this is a nice restaurant. But there are many more Indian restaurants to choose from. I won’t be back.

The food here never fails and is always good. Items are always delivered hot to the table. Service is very attentive. Only criticism is tables are shoe horned in. You better like the people next to you (we didn't because of loud, foul & obnoxious chatter ) because you're on top of one another.

It was quite full so it was quite noisy. And unusually, the waiter waited to serve dinner until we asked for it...and then it came promptly. My favorite is the Baigan Bharta...and it changes almost each time. Sometimes it is more tasty than other times. This last week it was lumpy and not in the top ten. But thatg was made up for by the mango shrimp. Wow...those are award winning shrimp!!
