Excellent, and attentive service; consistently high quality, well prepared meals.
Good food and plenty of it. I had the lobster and my companion had the salmon and we both were very satisfied. The only glitch was the waiter; he seemed awfully grumpy.
The food was very good but the portions were ridiculously tiny.
Uno de los mejores restaurantes indios de New York, lo hemos visitado por años, y la calidad siempre se mantiene inmejorable.
Sapphire is a reliable pre-Lincoln Center dining choice, serving a wide variety of tasty Indian dishes at a fair price.
As Indian food goes, this was mediocre, and quite dry. Wait staff was attentive but kept rushing us. It's annoying to have them try to clear away dishes before people have clearly finished eating!
We ate pre-opera. The service was timely, and the food was even better than at previous occasions.
Excellent Indian food in a quiet atmosphere (suitable for conversation!). Very attentive service. Conveniently located near Lincoln Center.
I love the vegetarian menu. The wait staff is always professional and make you feel welcome. My third time here and not my last.
Great food, attentive service. Our waiter made some great recommendations. We'll be back.
The food was excellent and the recommendations from our waiter were spot on. We will definitely go back.
Excellent food, never crowded or noisy. Very attentive friendly service.
Very enjoyable. Greeting was gracious. Food was really delicious. Hope to go there again soon.
consistently very good food and great service. We have been coming here for years and love it.
Second visit, both pre-theater at Lincoln Center. Arrived early but was promptly seated while waiting for dinner guest. The staff is all male (why? seems to be a feature of some Indian restaurants I've visited); the men who bring water and clear plates etc are polite but very formal which is a bit disconcerting. The waiter was very friendly. Food was good - combination of fish and vegetarian apps and main courses. Décor is a bit dated but everything was clean and neat. Bathroom was very clean too. Able to complete meal in plenty of time for 7:30 curtain. Would return.
The dining room was quite loud. The delivery drivers were back and forth through the restaurant during our entire meal and the food was mediocre at best. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, which should be a home-run for any legit Indian restaurant. Instead, they had clearly pre-cooked some chicken breasts in the oven and dropped them into the sauce just before putting it on the table. The chicken was dry, not dark meat cooked in the sauce as it should have been. The shrimp appetizer was not edible. The samosas tasted like the oil hadn't been changed in the fryer in months. Overall this was a disappointing experience.
We've dined at Sapphire numerous times and always enjoyed our experiences. This time service was poor. We sat at the bar first; that waiter was attentive, pleasant and a good server. When taken to our table the waiter was bordering unfriendly. Food did come quickly and was adequate. However, no one checked our table while we ate. Not once were water glasses refilled. Mine was empty. We waited awhile for dessert menus; not even then was my glass filled. We ordered kulfi for dessert. It wasn't a true kulfi but kulfi flavored ice cream.
Unfortunately we won't be returning. New York City is filled with so many good dining experiences.
Excellent food, a bit pricy, though. The menu posted online is not the same menu in the restaurant.
The food was very nice (garlic naan was outstanding) but somewhat over priced considering the ingredients and portions. Nice dining room and service, but the coffe we ordered was so terrible that we had to go to a Starbucks for an espresso. And I don’t even like Starbucks.
Not many reasonably priced dining choices so near to Lincoln Center. Sapphire is a pretty good bet for pre-Lincoln Center events.
I love this place. I would go here for the Mango Margaritas alone. The food is good, too.
Best Indian food in the Upper West Side/Columbus Circle. We eat here more than any single local restaurant ... And for us that includes crossing the GWB.
Why? The dishes are extremely tasty and consistently well prepared. The service is exceptional and the atmosphere is clean and classy.
Highly recommend this to anyone looking for delicious food in the UWS.
My wife and I were happy to be enjoying dinner at one of our favorite Indian restaurants, following a truly special concert at the Philharmonic. It was still early, and of course the noise level was favorably affected by that. We were familiar with the menu and chose several of our favorites, including the scallop appetizer and the Mango Shrimp. Service was impeccable and friendly, which, understandably, is not always the case at a later hour.
This is one of my favorite restaurants near Lincoln Center. It was perhaps an off-night.
Favorite place for dining before a symphony or opera performance. Excellent food and attentive service. Try Saphire Dahl.
I've been going to Sapphire for years whenever I'm in the Columbus Circle neighborhood. The best thing about it is its consistency! You will never get a bad meal there, the service will be attentive but not too flashy, and the food will be high quality. If you go pre-performance at J@LC, they will get you in and out with plenty of time to spare. It is a very solid option overall.
I always enjoy dining at this elegant establishment. It is brightly lit, civilized clientele, and, most importantly, food is excellent. Service is great, and you don't need to worry about picking up cooking odors like you might have experienced at other ethnic food restaurant. Highly recommended.
Fine Indian restaurant convenient to Lincoln Center. Pleasant space, white table cloths, quick service, and good food.
Reception by staffmember who may have been the owner was quite unfriendly, and it took a long time before anyone came to our table. It was a very cold day and even though we were seated far away from windows and door it was cold enough so that one of us had to put on her coat. Letting the staff know that it was too cold brought no response. Pluses are that the restaurant is usualy quiet and there are good vegan choices.
The food here is consistently very good. The lamb chops are outstanding. A family favorite. My rating is lower than usual because the restaurant was just cold. Everyone sat around with their coats on. Asked them to turn up heating but they told us it is not theirs to control. Chicken Marsala is also a favorite.
Great place. Good Indian food. Nice atmosphere and service.
Around Lincoln center, Columbus circle, Shopping Center (Time Warner), subway station nearby and nice walk from the hotel.
Will go again
Some of the best Indian food around. Great Tandoor chicken and shrimp, onion Ghajia's are fantastic as are all the lamb curries
We love Indian food and this was very good. The service was fantastic as was the food. We would definitely return the next time we are in NYC. My only complaint was having to pay $6 for plain, white rice.....doesn't that usually come with you entree?
The food was great as always and the service was excellent. Tried a new salmon dish which was wonderful. The waiter had the kitchen adjust the sauce on one of the meals to accommodate an aversion to onions. The restaurant's close proximity to Lincoln Center was a real plus as it was freezing outside.
Excellent, fast service, and excellent food. Would love to have sampled desserts - but we had no room left!
One of our favorites near Lincoln Center, Sapphire provides consistently good food in very pleasant surroundings. The portions are a little small, the prices are a little high and the service can be a little slow. However, the food is delicious and presented well, and they'll get you out in time for your show or nearby movie. Plus, unlike so many other restaurants these days, you can actually have a conversation at the table without shouting over the music. We have never been disappointed with a meal at Sapphire and plan to return again and again.
Best Indian food in NYC. You must have lamb chops!
