Sapphire Laguna Ratings and Reviews
We visited Saphire for dinner with an out-of-town guest before going to a performance at the Laguna Playhouse. We were seated promptly at an outside table. The heaters were very effective, so even though it was after dark, it was very pleasant. The service attentive and prompt -- we told them we had an 8 O-clock curtain and they made sure we were served promptly so that we could enjoy our food and the ambiance. We had chicken pot pie, steak with truffled fries, and swordfish. All were delicious. Saphire is definitely a place to come for original and delicious food, and an inviting atmosphere.
We have been going to Sapphire since it opened and always loved it until Saturday night. The food was horrible. My husband had the pot pie. It was clearly microwaved. The inside was nuclear hot and the crust was a doughy mess. I ordered the octopus salad good but half the size. The burrimundi(sp) fish was literally swimming in oil. I mentioned it to the server at the bar and was offered dessert. They had been notified when I ordered I had a dairy allergy, all their desserts have dairy. I suggested to take off one of my drinks. Answer no. I was also told I’ve ordered that dish before and liked it... untrue never had it before. Then went home woke up 3:00am itchy and welts all over my body. A favorite restaurant is now off the list. No wonder there was hardly anyone in the place.
We have been to Sapphire for lunch twice when visiting Laguna. The lovely, friendly hostess seated us at a table on the patio both times. We came a second time for the Kobe Burger, which did not disappoint! The first visit, we also enjoyed the fish tacos which were great! Our last visit we ordered a curry dish which we didn't care for. It was whisked away with no charge and we happily shared the burger! We will come again.
Sunday lunch for 3, Kobe burgers and omlete. Burgers and fries excellent cooked to perfection, again fries good. Omlete was delicious extra for a 4th ingredient though. Parking was easy in the garage behind the shopping center, free with token fron one of the shops or restaurant. Recommend reservation for patio if a nice sunny day, traffic can get loud.
A beautiful spot to be and especially share with out of town guests! The hostess was great, keeping us posted on our reservation/seating outside... However not sure of the point of a reservation if the restaurant can't "guarantee outside seating...?" Additionally it was not that busy but the service was marginal as well as the food. Normally an amazing experience in the past, however this time was just so-so...
Sapphire Laguna is one of our favorite restaurants, and we return year after year, where we always enjoy great food and service. This year I ventured from my favorite dish, the beef tenderloin & lobster ravioli, and ordered the swordfish --- it was SO good!! Can't wait to go back as we just love the atmosphere at this beloved restaurant.
Sapphire offers an interesting menu with an international flavor, and never disappoints. The menu changes seasonally. They are very consistent in quality and service. The interior is a comfortable cabin like ambiance, and their outdoor patio is a wonderful place when the weather is nice.
We are longtime Sapphire dinner clients. We always book the patio for sunset. This was our first time at brunch, and it was wonderful. My husband had the fried chicken biscuit entree and said it was the best fried chicken of his LIFE. My mother and I ordered the omelet and pancakes and shared them. Pancakes were fluffy beyond belief with a citrus berry syrup that was a great compliment. We will definitely do brunch again. We also had the brunch cocktail which was pumpkin based and great. At dinner, we almost always order the feature cocktail and enjoy it immensely.
Service is outstanding as is the ambiance. We sat outside for Sunday brunch and the comfort level was great. Our waiter and staff were excellent. The drinks were pretty tasty too. How we the food was marginal at best. There were six of us and tryed several dishes but none stood out. The Benedict duo was in par with average at best. English muffins aren’t toasted which made them taste dry. The Canadian bacon was thick and dry. Smoked salmon tasted good but not enough on the muffin. The eggs were cooked perfect though. Sauce was meh. The beef hash was nothing like a beef hash. It was some strange combination of diced tomatoes and some kind of sweet slightly spicy meet thing. Not bad but not beef hash. Chicken and biscuit was pale and boring. At the end I’d recommend this place as a hang with friends out/cocktail hang out while sitting outside but if you want good food I’d try some other spot.
Sapphire never fails to deliver. Bruce was our waiter, if you are lucky enough to get him, you did well. He is affable, knowledgeable without being intrusive. It was my first date with this beautiful woman, food sublime as was the service. We are planning our second date you'll be happy to know. Make reservations several days ahead.
