Sapori Italian Restaurant – Marina del Rey
I’ll begin by saying we are East Coast Italians and are extremely picky about our Italian food, but we decided to try this place because of it’s great waterfront location and lovely outdoor seating. The wait staff were cordial and attentive. The stuffed artichokes and tegamino appetizers were incredible, very tasty. I had the cacciatore which really was more like a red Bolognese sauce, but delicious nonetheless. My husband loves braciola and this one did not disappoint- the meat was extremely tender. Though I couldn’t fit dessert, my husband had the avvocato, which he said was as good as any he’s had in Italy or New York. Can’t wait to try some other menu items on our next visit.
Sapori is an outstanding Italian restaurant. The food is excellent -- try the specials, and the service is wonderful. It is in a great location right on the water in Marina del Rey.
Always great food and even better service at Sapori.
Beautiful spot, good service. Not a good choice if anyone in your party needs Gluten-Free options. Their GF pasta was not good. They appeared unaware of our Open Table reservation, but accommodated us.
Just tried this because we have never been there before. The food was excellent and the food/price ratio was very good. The location in the Marina was excellent and would make for a wonderful date night. The only issue was the service which was not great. From not acknowledging our reservations, to a 40 minute wait to order, got the drink order wrong twice and didn’t ever bring one of the drinks. We weren’t in a rush, so it wasn’t a huge problem for us but the service issue was really obvious. We speculated that they might be short-handed and did not bring up the issue. It’s still an excellent place if you know what you’re in for.
Went on a Friday night for dinner - great place! The food was delicious and the service was spot on. We will be back!
I’ve eaten here many times. I took my friend here for her birthday, and every plate of food was delicious. I will keep coming back to Sapori
Walked in and was very excited about eating here, the menu had some familiar and different Italian items, the food presentation was lovely, however the items we ordered we were very disappointed in. I ordered gnocchi and they were so over cooked they were mushy, we ordered butter spaghetti with Parmesan and those noodles came out cold and without cheese, and my sister ordered the grilled shrimp and by the time you took the shrimp out of the shell there was 1 bite. Usually when grilled shrimp is presented and cooked that way they will be the U10 or U 13 these were very small shrimp cut in half and grilled with heads on. Very disappointed. There was a ton of salad 5 of the shrimp that were probably size 20 and 1 veggie skewer. Probably will not return there to eat again and it’s too bad because the place is cute. It was a Saturday evening around 6:30 and there were only 5 tables taken up with guests and the rest was empty. Makes me sad when I see hard working individuals and owners and a little place by the water is almost empty on a Saturday evening.
I've always been satisfied with the food. Had a nice bottle of Amazon. The live music was nice, although a bit loud at times.
The restaurant was great and we were very happy with the service. Just beware of the parking situation. Signs are posted that are hard to find and although there was ample parking, we received a $60 parking fine which, obviously, discourages us to use that restaurant row in the future.
Food was hit and miss. My dish was way too salty for my liking but I don’t salt much so it’s possible I’m just overly sensitive. My friend ordered the special bronzino and it was delicious. My husband had ossobuco and said it was only okay (but he is Italian and cooks he is a harder grader than most). The wine was good and the service was great. We were outside so it was quiet, but inside was very loud so definitely not a place for a romantic indoor date. I would go back since I suspect I just ordered the wrong thing given how good my friend’s dish was.
Food was great, superb service and the atmosphere next to the Marina was super nice. What a wonderful evening with the family!
We tried this once by chance but came back because we love the staff, view, food, service and ambience. Fabulous local restaurant!
We’ve dined there before covid and it was wonderful, but tonight we ordered the same thing we did previously and the spaghetti vongole tasted stale and not fresh and the carciofi (artichoke) appetizer was really undercooked and over cheesed. The overall experience was fine but the food quality was a bit disappointing. Maybe the chef has changed or it could have just been an off night. The service was friendly, and I’d still try it again another time if in the area.
This was our first time at Sapori. The food was fantastic. Very authentic. The ambiance was great and the wait staff were very nice and professional.
The restaurant is very nice looking the Marina. Everyone wears a mask and they provide sanitizer.
The staff are very attentive and the service is very good
The food is delicious and the seafood is also very fresh .
You get a really good deal for the value.
The outdoor space is just amazing along the water. Absolutely delicious food and friendly, professional service.
Best Italian food I’ve ever had.
Location is beautiful, food was just ok. Over all , it is dated place. Feels a little bit tired .
A very special restaurant experience with a great view.
Great dinner and setting
Food is almost a 5 but bread wasn't great, pasta was a bit too al dente, but flavors were great overall.
Service was trash. I'd give it a 1 but the water boys bring it up a star.
The food is consistently delicious! We come for the fish - it’s always fresh and served with a mound of beautiful vegetables. The pastas look amazing - the menu has something for everyone. The wait staff are lovely and attentive. Sapori is a true charmer in the Marina.!
This restaurant is a hidden gem. Cloth tablecloth. Great service. Nice and quiet. Sometimes live entertainment outside. Great for people watching and right by the water.
When I made reservations to celebrate our friend's birthday and my husband's and my anniversary, we expected to revel in the excellent food, friendly service and lovely ambience at Sapori. All in all, we had an okay time...but food was uneven, service was sloppy and slow, special requests were ignored.
On arrival, there was no table waiting for us and no notice had been taken of our special events. We sat outside with the sun hitting some of us square in the face. But it was quieter there, so during the much-too-long wait for menus, we put on our sunglasses. Bread and menus arrived at last; then, we waited longer for the waiter to come by so we could order drinks and our food.
While we were waiting, a nearby table opened and a party of four was seated. Our order was taken and our beverages finally arrived. As we waited for our appetizers, dinner was served to the new family at the nearby table. After another long wait, our shared appetizers showed up; we all loved the crab cakes and eggplant. The busboy cleared away part of the dirty dishes and disappeared. Our waiter noticed us waving and got the remaining dishes removed, then we sat for another long stretch waiting for our entrées.
NINETY minutes after we sat down, our meals were finally served--and the nearby family finished eating and left Some of our food was excellent, some not so much. The veal scallopini was tender and delicious, the penne del cacciatore and fettuccine del castelli got good reviews. Unfortunately, the spaghetti primavera was overcooked with mushy vegetables on top. Before we were done with our food, the 2-hr parking time was up, so one of us ran out to pay for another ticket. Just then the second party seated at the nearby table got their food. We finished and eventually the busboy came to box up our leftovers and asked if we wanted dessert.
We ended with dessert and coffee: first getting the wrong beverages and finally our very nice desserts. But nearly three hours for dinner?
Food is excellent and reasonably priced. I'd recommend reservations as it get busy after 12
Although this restaurant is situated in a good area, we found the service lacking and the food not of the kind of quality one would desire for the prices.
The owner is downright mean. My date arrived early and he would not sit her at our table even though the restaurant was empty. He then proceeded to hound us to order more and more food, as the night progressed.
This place is a nightmare, truly. Just read the other reviews.
Time to book your trip to the south of Italy today! Sapori, in Marina del Rey, is a terrific spot for lunch or dinner whatever the day and whatever the weather.
My best friend of some 25 years and I were out for a day of catching up and Sapori was our pick!
We were lucky enough to snag a spot on a Saturday afternoon at 1:15 at peak lunch time so that may have explained the slow start in service.
After eventually flagging down the server, the food and drinks came flying out. And in incredible food it was!
We started off with the Baby Eggplant parmigiana and the bruschetta. We ordered both planning to split them before lunch. Big mistake. The portions are HUGE! After the bread, bruschetta and eggplant, we were already starting to get full. And we’re both foodies!
Along with the apps we had a glass of their rosé (for her) and Pinot Grigio for me. Both were great.
Next course my friend had the large salad while I ordered the ravioli with wild mushrooms and a butter sage truffle sauce. Both were incredible and generous portions.
By the end of our lunch, we were both unable to order a desert despite the fact we saw several incredible dishes pass our table on the way up other neighboring diners. Next time!
The views are incredible and you truly feel transported to a marina on the coast of Italy. The sun, the fresh sea air, the sounds of the passing boats and the buzz from the diners around you is intoxicating and delicious. The place is as tasty to see and hear as it is to eat and savor!
I can’t wait to come back with my boyfriend for a tasty, romantic dinner and then walk along the harbor after desert and ogle the beautiful yachts and sailboats bobbing at their berths. The restaurant inside is cozy and charming and reminds me of countless eateries I’ve visited in Cannes, Nice, Palermo and Naples. Cream colored table cloths and napkins, candles and gleaming silverware and crustal. The wine bottles lining the walls is a great touch.
Always a great meal and amazing view!
A hidden gem in Marina Del Rey
Staff seemed a bit out of sorts, but perhaps this was due to getting back into the swing of things.
Sapori provided a gorgeous ambiance coupled with outstanding food! I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Sapori is usually better, but maybe it was that we went on the final day of a three-day weekend. There was, essentially, only one person taking orders, he didn't get them right (in our case), and he was so busy running around that everything took longer than it should have.
The food (once they got the order right) was wonderful, but the noise made it less enjoyable. Sitting next to my lunch partner - not across the table - I still had difficulty hearing her. It's time to add some acoustical baffles to the indoor dining room.
I invited my best friend who had not been out to a restaurant since the pandemic began. So I picked Sapori. Boy, was he surprised and happy with the food, ambience and service. It is the best Italian restaurant in LA.
What a nice hidden gem. Seems the locals come here. Such wonderful staff and really good food. I think they can make their patio a little nicer but really I was very happy with my meal and service!
A nice restaurant. I ordered the veal scallopini, one of the most expensive entrees on the menu. It was over cooked and on the tough side. The dessert was a disappointing slice of pistachio cheesecake that was more like a mousse. Otherwise, the service was great.
Nice table inside with Marina view. Service and food was great! Will definitely be back.
The food and the ambient was perfect for the ocation
Despite the large crowd we were seated right away. We had made reservations in advance. Service was excellent, great wine, and food was delicious! We have been coming here for the past 10 years and great to see there has been no change to friendly service and great quality.
