Sapori Italian Restaurant – Marina del Rey Ratings and Reviews
Sapori is a great place to get delicious italian food without all the overpriced hype or “cool” trendy ratings. Been living in this neighborhood for over 50 years and am grateful to have a place like Sapori to get a great Italian dinner without making reservations a month in advance or breaking the bank. Plus who can complain being on the water and being treated to great service and a good meal with plenty of free parking.
On New Year's Eve, Sapori Italian Restaurant was understandably chaotic and very busy. The restaurant was fully booked for the evening. The noise level was loud enough to make dinner conversations almost a shouting match. The waiter was friendly, but I felt that I was rushed to place my orders. There was a limited conversation when discussing the menu items that were written in Italian. The appetizer ordered was the Gamberi Ala Milanese which is a shrimp and crab mixture that is breaded with a lot of breadcrumbs and served on a scallop shell. The first thing you taste is the breadcrumbs, then you eventually can see a sparse of crab meat and baby shrimp. For the main course, there was Tonnarelli Pescatore and a supposed ravioli in a lobster sauce on the special menu. The Tonnarelli Pescatore had all the right ingredients that consisted of calamari, shrimps clams & mussels. The taste was bland and slightly acidic. The was no taste of lobster in the ravioli that was underwhelming. I think this meal was cooked by Chef Boyardee, at least that what it tasted like. For dessert was a Tiramisu. The taste was just okay. There was no trace of rum in the taste and it tasted more chocolatey than normal. All the aforementioned together with 1 glass of bad tasting house sparkling white wine and a bottle of Sole water and 1 cup of coffee. The total bill came out to be $124. I could have gotten a better tasting equivalent dinner at my local informal family Italian restaurant for more than half of what I paid. Maybe there are other items that are better. Unfortunately, I won't be back to try them.
Sapori is a great spot for Italian food in Marina del Rey. Owner Stephano is there most every evening and has a staff of warm and knowledgeable servers. We enjoy the warmth of the restaurant even though it is bright and cheery on summer evenings with all the windows on the west side of the restaurant that looks out to the water. The outdoor patio is great in the summertime. Food is simple great Italian food, fish and seafood always good too. We enjoy the food and experience every time we visit the restaurant which if once a month.
Sapori never fails to bring a smile to your face and amazing meal to your table. I’ve told friends to go and to order the special regardless of what it is. I took my own advice and we had an outstanding Osso Bucco and also a very spectacular Venison ragout.
Rounding out the meal was a Tiramisu that all others should be judged against - perfection.
Sapori is a great place for a meal with the family or an intimate date. Don’t miss it.
The waterfront/sunset view was the draw for us. The service was seamless, although there was a little resistance to our using the deserted patio. (We had dressed for the evening chill.) The menu was exiting, and we ordered in excess, sampling all of the evening's specials. And it was the food and the tastes that led to our disappointment: nothing special at best.
Second time here, went for a date with my husband. Beautiful view of the Marina and very cozy and quiet. Authentic Italian food, the carpaccio was spectacular. One of my favorite dishes which I order often - my husband said Sapori's was the best he's ever had. Highly recommend, very cute space that feels undiscovered and tucked away.
Came from out of town to find a place that could accommodate a group of 15 of us at one big table outside by the water. Great placement, great food, great service, great time. Food was outstanding and the owner treated us like friends. Brought out two huge antipasto appetizer trays that were a great touch. Everything made for a perfect night. Great find.
This was our second time at Sapori. The service was not as attentive as during our first visit, even though we had the same waiter. There were four in our party; two ordered the duck. It was very disappointing: tough, uninspired, with a poor excuse for glaze. Should have sent it back. The farfale with chicken was excellent. The pasta with clams was fine. Servers need to warn customers about certain dishes here, or the Chef needs to make changes. The atmosphere is warm and friendly; being on the marina is very nice.
Brought my niece, and my dog, to this lovely waterfront Italian resto. They have a decent sized patio overlooking the channel - boats passing in the sunset - incredible. The owner was kind and service was terrific. I highly recommend the fried artichoke app - delicious! We shared the grilled salmon and a pasta dish with mushrooms and then had two desserts - a truly terrific meal with a gorgeous view!
This place packed people in like sardines. It was overpacked and understaffed. Service was very slow and not very attentive. Once we finally got our meals, the food itself was decent but not worth the whole experience. We wouldn't go back again, unfortunately.
The food was excellent. Two of us had the seafood mixed grill special and it was exceptional; nicely marinated and perfectly cooked. The grill was served with a salad and we ordered a side of pasta ..... Heaven.
They were very busy (both the inside and the patio were full) and for the most part the staff handled it very well ... Seems like they could have used one more person to handle the water refills, etc, but that little hiccup wouldn't stop me from recommending Sapori. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly and it is right on the water!
Delicious food, good place for conversation. We sat outside, but would have had a little better view inside, especially of the sunset (blocked by a yacht). There was a large group nearby, but they were well behaved. Overall, we were very happy to have chosen this place.
Hey We were forced to sit outside because of a large European group booked the inside tables - but we enjoyed the viewed of the Marina boats & the sunset ...the food was savory as always but the device was slow due to the large group
Overall a enjoyable evening with visiting foodies from
