Sapore Italiano is a relaxed Italian eatery known for its tasty bread and hearty cuisine. The restaurant serves everything, from pizzas and salads, to veal scaloppine Marsala and tiger prawns with a basil and white wine sauce.
Try Sapore Italiano's homemade meat lasagna or signature insalata Sapore with greens, chicken breast, raisins and sliced apples in a balsamic vinaigrette for lunch. Sapore Italiano's dinner menu includes irresistible antipasti like carpaccio Veneto with raw beef, shaved Parmesan, arugula, Dijon mustard, olive oil and lemon. The restaurant's rigatoni with ground sausage and vegetarian pizza are both standout dishes. A large wine list includes a nice variety of Italian and Californian wines. Sapore Italiano also serves gluten-free and whole wheat pastas.
I have been going to Sapore for the last 5 years. The food was good especially the gnocchi with gorgonzola perfection. But the angel hair past this time was gummy. The big problem was the service. It was awful and it seems to have been a problem the last couple of times we have been there. These people need to be trained. They really have no clue. They were courteous but no idea how to service wine. The bottle was put on the table unopened. Luckily it had a screw top. No ice bucket. The drinks were totally messed up. I totally talked up this restaurant to my family and was totally embarrassed
Have been going there for years. Great service, wonderful food, friendly staff and excellent food!
The food was delicious but the restaurant was excessively HOT. I was so uncomfortable that it took away from the experience.
On a busy night, food was poorly prepared--one pasta dish was tough, one fish entree was overcooked and dried out, the servers did their best to compensate for having to go up and down stairs and try to take care of too many people. Not a great experience.
This is one of my favorite places to eat in Burlingame. Authentic Italian cuisine, excellent service, always fresh and delicious,
Very relaxed atmosphere with good service. Pasta dishes are excellent. Will definitely return.
Very delicious food with good service and reasonable prices
It was nice to eat "al fresco", the afternoon was very nice and Im glad they have tables outside. Good move.
Food was very good and server attentive. Major complaint is noise level made conversation almost impossible.
The service was fine. The hostess and servers were all courteous. The food was sort of what we expected at an Italian restaurant in the burb. I think most people would probably find it “fine” but this was not what we were looking for. I don’t think we’ll be going back.
Good food good drinks, the beer was delicious 😋 nice night to eat outside. Walking in the area was nice also
Excellent neighborhood restaurant in Burlingame. Consistent good food and service.
The food is always good and although it was loud for my parents . . . it was fine with me:) Love our hostess She works hard and is always smiling!
Father’s Day! They have a limited menu. While it was good, it would have been nice to post this online.
Outstanding Bronzino! Just wonderful. This is a neighborhood favorite.
Outstanding service makes this a lovely option if you are in the mood for Italian food. While the brussels sprouts did not hit a high mark for us (we like them crispy), the Ceasar salad was top notch and the homemade pastas were excellent. We enjoyed the warmth of the atmosphere. Seemed like a lot of regulars were dining here on a Saturday night, which is always a good sign.
We enjoyed the arancini, our fish and veal. Thanks
What a great find! Loved everything we ordered. The place is hopping so making a reservation is recommended. Started with arancini rice app and then ordered from the nightly specials. Delicious.
Good food and good wine!!
Staff provided us with great service and a private space to celebrate. Food was excellent
The food is outstanding and authentic. The wait staff is warm and outreaching and provide fine service.
The owner is interactive and makes clients feel valued.
Last minute reservation as we booked a hotel close to the airport to return to the East Coast. Everyone extremely friendly and quick to serve without us feeling rushed. Owner makes you feel like he’s known you for years.
Went with a friend and her daughter and sat at the bar. Very enjoyable. Glad to see grass-fed options on the menu.
The food was mediocre and service was not great
I love this little gem on Burlingame Ave. it’s one of the few places you can carry on a conversation while dining and has a nice ambiance. The food is consistently delicious at a fair price and there is a nice mix of options and specials.
Sapore is one of our favorites!! A real neighborhood gem... it's great for a weeknight meal or a special occasion. The food is consistent; the wait staff efficient; the restaurant is lively but not loud. It's a wonderful, well run, delicious restaurant and good for lunch or dinner.
Sapore... very good pasta entrees, most home made and nicely prepared, good service and realistic prices!
Always a great spot in Burlingame. Old school avenue. Great prices, great food. It was loud this evening but not awful. We will be back!
I have dine at Sapore for a few times now and it has always been a wonderful experience
Sapore Italiano is a very good neighborhood restaurant. Food is well prepared, portions are generous and service is friendly. We visit it often.
So disappointed. I had a confirmed reservation at 7:15 and got there to be informed that our reservation was for 7:45. How could we not have been informed.
Had they informed us that they were backed up I would have gladly planned accordingly. But we were a party of 5 and had to plan ahead. To get there only to be told that and were not even certain about the time was so disappointing.
Best to go to Sapore without a reservation either early or late, then you will really enjoy their great food.
We started going to Sapore when they first opened and we considered it a treasure. Moved in 2003 and rarely get back to Burlingame but had fond memories. We had some extra time and drove a few towns over this past weekend. Restaurant is showing signs of wear & tear and needs some updating. Food was good but didn't seem to have the same quality we remembered. Still a enjoyable ambiance in a town full of pretentious restaurants.
Celebrating close of escrow
we often forget about this neighborhood gem, but the 3 of us came in for an early lunch. the pasta and salads were fresh and delicious - the service was friendly and attentive. we were the first ones in the restaurant that day so it was very quiet. it would've been nice to have the background music on when the day started so it would have felt more welcoming.
we remembered dining there before with larger groups and will look to come again.
Very good pasta dishes. I just can't believe they charge $20 per bottle for corkage, even after running up a $300+ bill for five people.
Branzino was delicious, veal fabulous, service perfect.
Homemade pasta is the key at Sapore Italiano in downtown Burlingame for an authentic Italian meal!
From the moment we arrived, we felt like long time patron's of Sapore. The host couldn't be more charming and friendly, perhaps it was my last name that drew a connection, but it was fun talking about the owner's origin our travels and experiences in Italy.
When we arrived at 6:45pm for our 7pm reservation we were seated immediately and the restaurant was a buzz on a Friday night. Not the quietest restaurant around, but certainly filled with people enjoying the experience and flavors of Italy.
We started with a Caprese Salad and two Cesare Salads which we all shared. The Caprese Salad was my only disappointment I'll say because the mozzarella cheese was not nearly as flavorful as what we have when we are in Napoli Italia, but none-the-less was right on par with what is typically served here in the States. The Cesare Salad on the other hand was delicious. Could swear that the dressing was homemade and was light but extremely flavorful and highly recommended.
We ordered three dinners, Ravioli Ricotta, Pollo Pizzaiola and the Fettuccine Bolognese, all were exceptional I must admit! Seems to me that even though it was our first time to Sapore we have a feeling that all their dinners are fabulous.
With all this good food there was no room for dessert as much as the Affogato was calling my name. If you're not familiar with this Italian dessert imagine an Italian coffee-based dessert. It usually takes the form of a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream topped or "drowned" with a shot of hot espresso.
Service was on right on par and server Sahara was right on!
We also learned Centro Pizza on Broadway in Burlingame is also run by the same owner and understand the pizza is very Neapolitan and hope to try it the next time we are in the area!
Great food. Always a friendly greeting. Love going for our date night meal.
The food was outstanding
We introduced friends to the resturant and they were very impressed.
