Sapore Italiano is a relaxed Italian eatery known for its tasty bread and hearty cuisine. The restaurant serves everything, from pizzas and salads, to veal scaloppine Marsala and tiger prawns with a basil and white wine sauce.
Try Sapore Italiano's homemade meat lasagna or signature insalata Sapore with greens, chicken breast, raisins and sliced apples in a balsamic vinaigrette for lunch. Sapore Italiano's dinner menu includes irresistible antipasti like carpaccio Veneto with raw beef, shaved Parmesan, arugula, Dijon mustard, olive oil and lemon. The restaurant's rigatoni with ground sausage and vegetarian pizza are both standout dishes. A large wine list includes a nice variety of Italian and Californian wines. Sapore Italiano also serves gluten-free and whole wheat pastas.
Last minute reservation as we booked a hotel close to the airport to return to the East Coast. Everyone extremely friendly and quick to serve without us feeling rushed. Owner makes you feel like he’s known you for years.
Went with a friend and her daughter and sat at the bar. Very enjoyable. Glad to see grass-fed options on the menu.
The food was mediocre and service was not great
I love this little gem on Burlingame Ave. it’s one of the few places you can carry on a conversation while dining and has a nice ambiance. The food is consistently delicious at a fair price and there is a nice mix of options and specials.
Sapore is one of our favorites!! A real neighborhood gem... it's great for a weeknight meal or a special occasion. The food is consistent; the wait staff efficient; the restaurant is lively but not loud. It's a wonderful, well run, delicious restaurant and good for lunch or dinner.
Sapore... very good pasta entrees, most home made and nicely prepared, good service and realistic prices!
Always a great spot in Burlingame. Old school avenue. Great prices, great food. It was loud this evening but not awful. We will be back!
I have dine at Sapore for a few times now and it has always been a wonderful experience
Sapore Italiano is a very good neighborhood restaurant. Food is well prepared, portions are generous and service is friendly. We visit it often.
So disappointed. I had a confirmed reservation at 7:15 and got there to be informed that our reservation was for 7:45. How could we not have been informed.
Had they informed us that they were backed up I would have gladly planned accordingly. But we were a party of 5 and had to plan ahead. To get there only to be told that and were not even certain about the time was so disappointing.
Best to go to Sapore without a reservation either early or late, then you will really enjoy their great food.
We started going to Sapore when they first opened and we considered it a treasure. Moved in 2003 and rarely get back to Burlingame but had fond memories. We had some extra time and drove a few towns over this past weekend. Restaurant is showing signs of wear & tear and needs some updating. Food was good but didn't seem to have the same quality we remembered. Still a enjoyable ambiance in a town full of pretentious restaurants.
Celebrating close of escrow
we often forget about this neighborhood gem, but the 3 of us came in for an early lunch. the pasta and salads were fresh and delicious - the service was friendly and attentive. we were the first ones in the restaurant that day so it was very quiet. it would've been nice to have the background music on when the day started so it would have felt more welcoming.
we remembered dining there before with larger groups and will look to come again.
Very good pasta dishes. I just can't believe they charge $20 per bottle for corkage, even after running up a $300+ bill for five people.
Branzino was delicious, veal fabulous, service perfect.
Homemade pasta is the key at Sapore Italiano in downtown Burlingame for an authentic Italian meal!
From the moment we arrived, we felt like long time patron's of Sapore. The host couldn't be more charming and friendly, perhaps it was my last name that drew a connection, but it was fun talking about the owner's origin our travels and experiences in Italy.
When we arrived at 6:45pm for our 7pm reservation we were seated immediately and the restaurant was a buzz on a Friday night. Not the quietest restaurant around, but certainly filled with people enjoying the experience and flavors of Italy.
We started with a Caprese Salad and two Cesare Salads which we all shared. The Caprese Salad was my only disappointment I'll say because the mozzarella cheese was not nearly as flavorful as what we have when we are in Napoli Italia, but none-the-less was right on par with what is typically served here in the States. The Cesare Salad on the other hand was delicious. Could swear that the dressing was homemade and was light but extremely flavorful and highly recommended.
We ordered three dinners, Ravioli Ricotta, Pollo Pizzaiola and the Fettuccine Bolognese, all were exceptional I must admit! Seems to me that even though it was our first time to Sapore we have a feeling that all their dinners are fabulous.
With all this good food there was no room for dessert as much as the Affogato was calling my name. If you're not familiar with this Italian dessert imagine an Italian coffee-based dessert. It usually takes the form of a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream topped or "drowned" with a shot of hot espresso.
Service was on right on par and server Sahara was right on!
We also learned Centro Pizza on Broadway in Burlingame is also run by the same owner and understand the pizza is very Neapolitan and hope to try it the next time we are in the area!
Great food. Always a friendly greeting. Love going for our date night meal.
The food was outstanding
We introduced friends to the resturant and they were very impressed.
It’s my birthday
I've been to Sapore multiple times, it's a good place to get a reliable quality food and wine. As expected this dinner was no different from others except for the restaurant was two-thirds empty, perhaps because it was an Oscars night. I would recommend it for a casual Italian meal with a warning that the prices are a bit higher than at the comparable restaurants.
Good Italian food. It was a nice place to visit for Valentines Day. They had balloons and decorations.
Just great , authentic Italian Napolitano-Style food served here. Best Gnocchi I’ve ecer had & I was raised by a wonderful Italian Mother & married into a latge Italian Family. Wife is 100% Italian!!
great neighborhood restaurant. i go up to Burlingame twice a year from so cal for work. brought my
Italian wife this time and she loved it too.
Sorry. I can’t give a great review. I heard about this restaurant and wanted to try it. I was looking forward to ordering bruschetta, but the tomato one wasn’t on the menu. I don’t care for truffle oil, and it was on the cauliflower soup. I’m just not a huge fan of this place. The workers were very kind.
We were seated promptly, no drink order was taken for about 10 minutes, however bread was served. It was another 10 minutes before our drinks arrived. We ordered, 15 minutes later our Cesar Salad arrived, over dressed and not split for 2 as requested. Ten additional minutes passed and the kids were losing patients. When entrees arrived 3 were correct one was missing. Our daughter had to wait for them to make her a pizza. No one ate until her food arrived, so she had hot pizza and the rest of us had cold food... desserts were fine.
There was clearly no manager present.
The food was good. Service needs attention, lots of attention and training.
When seated the service was excellent...however, (1) when our order came the server did not know who ordered what, (2) no dessert menu was offered, nor coffee re-fills. Also upon being seated we instructed the waitress we wanted two bills; when we were ready to leave, she brought only 1 bill. We had to wait while she prepared two.
Sapppore is one of our go-to restaurants for a good Italian lunch. Quality and service is always consistently good.
authentic food in a feel-good setting
New Year’s Eve
Service was slow .. they were overwhelmed .. below a stage experience .. food was average ..
We love Sapore!. The staff is friendly, efficient and very accommodating. We love this restaurant and it's at the top of our favorites. Never have had a bad meal or dessert their....
Table of three was greeted with crumpled menus covered with food stains.
Service was very sketchy with two servers not able to answer questions about the menu and being totally confused about our orders.
Food was "acceptable" and not as good as it has been in the past.
The restaurant was empty at noon on a Saturday. No surprise there. Terrible service and mediocre food turns away business.
Favorite Italian restaurant to go to in Burlingame!
Office Christmas lunch
The waitress was so busy and forget our side order, waited for a while to get our food.
I’ve informed that my friend is Vegan but no one paid attention.
We appreciate the time and effort that the owners put into caring for and serving their guests here. Wine list has some delicious and affordable offerings. Service is terrific. Food is delicious. Will definitely return.
First time here , we all ordered different items in order to try all we could on the menu. Food was very good. one thing that was a disappointment was we were handed an old Special menu and wasn’t told until after we ordered and were told we couldn’t have one of the items we ordered. Will definitely be coming again.
Before flying out of SFO we were staying in Millbrae. This is the best meal we have ever had in Burlingame, we will be back.
Met a friend for Sunday lunch - Always enjoy the spinach/sausage omelette -
Friendly service - Comfortable ambiance -
Food was good but service was very slow and it was quite noisy in the restaurant.
