Santorini Greek Restaurant
The food was delicious, the service was great. The restaurant needs a little bit of an uplift.
If you want Greek food at a nice restaurant in Greek Town, Santorini is a great place. It has a good range of options, was still a bit touristy but overall the ambiance was very cute. The dip sampler was AMAZING. If you are looking for an amazing meal in Chicago, there are better places. But for the Greek Town experience, Santorini is great.
Great grilled fish. Delightful service. Almost like Greece.
Restaurant was very accommodating in seating the first 2 of our party even though 2 people were late. Waiter was very nice. Saganaki was very good. Served with the extra lemon I requested. Everyone seemed happy with their food except me. My nephew ordered calamari. My sister and our friend had the combination plates. My pastitsio was cold. I ordinarily would have sent it back to be heated, but because of the social nature of this event I didn't want to call attention to it.
Very poor food quality and taste, we all went home feeling somewhat sick too.
We've been here many times over the years, but we were extremely disappointed on this visit. Santorini is known for their fresh seafood, but all three fish dishes (from sole to walleye) were mushy and extremely fishy, with an off odor. Our saganki was over-soaked in oil. Our veggies were over-steamed and limp. The Baklava was drowned in honey. The bread was even disappointing, lacking that traditional crispy Greek crust. The taramousalata was meh. Only the soups were tasty.
And to top it off, the waiter completely ignored us after the entrees were brought. We tried to get his attention for nearly 45 minutes after we had enough of our entrees, and he was either nowhere to be found or we couldn't get his attention.
We will give Santorini another chance, since they've been so reliable over the years. But we're wary...
Great service and food
Our favorite Greek restaurant. We brought my niece who is an executive Chef out of Phoenix. She was blown away with the tender, delicious flavor of the octopus and grilled calamari. She wants to bring her boss her next time they are both in Chicago.
My friend Mark Regas and I meet at Santorini every time we go out -- and we always enjoy the evening! Never a disappointment.
Great location, food was pretty good, prices were good but the service INCREDIBLY slow. I don't plan to go back.
Bad service I had to ask for water, utensils, plates and they took 20 minutes to deliver. Breaded bacala was tough over fried. We should have dined across the street.
Arrived and received an outdoor table as requested. The service and food were great. It was a perfect evening to dine al fresco. Now that Chicago’s Greektown is slowly fading away, this is our “go to restaurant” for authentic Greek cuisine! So sad that Greektown is losing it’s identity & heritage! Such a great place!
Best sea food always fresh , best service always
Not sure why it was so difficult (impossible) for waiter to provide separate checks. Made it much more difficult for us to be fair.
Excellent choices involve seafood cuisine. Went on a Sunday afternoon so there was no wait
Great after theatre meal.
Delicious Food, good service, friendly atmosphere,
Go to greek islands. The food sucked and the service was the worst.
I love this place, but the food was ok tonight. Usually better. The Lemon Sole was tasteless. The grilled octopus came out cold. The service was extremely slow...we needed to ask for our server multiple times. I will go back, but when u drop $175 u expect more. Just an off night I guess.
At 6:30pm on a beautiful Weds eve, my wife and two daughters decided to visit the last of the “Big 3” Greek restaurants in Greektown, Chicago. We’d been to Athena and Greek Islands before, but not Santorini. So we decided to try it because of their emphasis on seafood.
The outside sidewalk was bustling with several filled tables, but when we arrived the inside was empty. Zero diners. After being promptly seated, we waited ten minutes to be approached for our drinks. We also ordered our appetizers at that time because we only had 1 hr 30 min for dinner.
We then waited a short amount of time for good appetizers. Fried calamari, saganaki (flambed tableside), and tzatziki (without pita bread). The apps tasted good. What came next overshadowed the entire evening.
We waited for our dinner. We waited while all other tables that came in well after us were served. We waited over 30 minutes after receiving our appetizers to get our dinners. Mind you, we had 2 gyro plates (that took 3 minutes to make as they just had to carve lamb off the spit and put it on a pita, a shrimp dish that was over cooked, and scallops that were mushy and not seared on either side. So much for seafood being their specialty.
We didn’t get dessert because we didn’t have time before having to leave for our next appointment. On the plus side, the valet attendant was fast...
So why was Santorini quiet inside and Greek Islands bustling and busy across the street? I now know why. Santorini is a tired place that we will not visit again, not when such stars are so close by. No energy, a tired dining room (don’t be fooled by someone calling it “cozy”, and no management shaking things up. I’m so sad for everyone who works there, this place should be terrific and thriving but I fear it’s too far gone to be resurrected by the current management team.
3 of us ordered broiled fish. It was over cooked & very dry. Actually stuck to the metal plate it was served on so we knew it was broiled on the plate. I can broil fish better at home. We ate early on a Saturday evening so there was no excuse for poor quality. We did not complain but will not be returning.
always the best fish in town
never disappointed with food or service
lovely to sit outside in nice weather
happy repeat diners
Gyros platter was burnt and crust. Lemon rice soup was good. Overall not impressive.
please dont close, so sad to hear that this area of greek town is coming to an end. always love santorini
This is a go to place for fresh charcoal grilled fish. The Best!
Very knowledgeable waiter, great food, awesome prices.
Food was a bit bland and expensive but great service.
Worst dinner I have ever had! Food was horrible -- over cooked, no taste! Server was unbelievably rude! Used to think Santorini was a step above all the other Greek restaurants in Greektown -- but no longer. Will NEVER come here again! Very sad!
Waiter was tremendous
Santorini has sunk so low! We persuaded friends who favor Greek Islands to dine here & it was a disappointment from start to finish. Santorini has often been uneven. Though our standards for Greek food are high & stretch back to the original Courtyards of Plaka, Costa's & Pegasus, this was about the worst Greek food we've had except for another bad meal at Santorini. This disastrous meal started with under-cooked pan-fried zucchini, dull salad with stringy blobs of octopus & an eggplant dish that would have fit better in a bad Italian restaurant that features red sauce. Main courses included mushy overdone swordfish steak since there was neither red snapper nor sea bass, boring lamb shish kebabs since no other decent lamb dishes were on hand & overdone baked shrimp. There was more but we'll spare you the agony. Just be warned that Santorini is not what it used to be nor what it should be!
Rapidly turning into big favorite. The service was terrific, the food what's perfect.
I had the lamb kebab with rice which was excellent
Perfect as always
Nico was a fantastic waiter!!
Great fish. Grilled calamari kind of skimpy
We have enjoyed this restaurant for years and scheduled this meal for our recent visit to Chicago.
Terrible service; food average at best; very expensive for the w
