Santorini Greek Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Santorini's' looks and feels authentically Greek. When we ate there on a Saturday night, we were seated quickly, service was excellent, and we loved everything we tried (including grilled octupus, black sea bass, spetsiota, dandelion greens and a very nice Greek merlot). The house salad was very good, the french fries were excellent. If we didn't live in Boston, we'd go back often.
When Santorini offers their traditional lamb dinner, prepared in a barbeque sauce, and call it their "special entree", it's time to walk across the street. This is the equivalent of eating Italian with Tzatziki sauce. They were also out of keftedes too. The place is definitely being mismanaged.
Not so good. Had the gyros plate, the local hot dog stand has a better gyros dinner. The appetizers were good. The server was surly ("don't call me Shirley"). Prices seemed a bit high for the fare. The fish dishes our neighbors had looked good. We were wishing we had gone across the street to the other Greek restaurant.
Everything was good except for a group that was very loud. I was looking for a more quieter evening. They sat us right next to the group. I’ve been there before and was disappointed at how loud this group was. No one said anything to them. I couldn’t even hear the music that was playing in the background. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough. It was disappointing.
This is our go-to spot in Greektown. NEVER disappoints. Very good fish. Simple prep (which I prefer), although the menu has fancier authentic Greek options. Service is always attentive. We tend to go early, but even when busy, you can actually have a conversation!
My family and I have been coming to Santorini for years! This most recent visit was disappointment. My daughter was in town visiting from Honolulu and was craving authentic Greek food from Santorini. We came here like we used to when she lived in Chicago over 10 years ago. The menu has expanded and the taste is still on point, however, the service was unusually rough, unrefined, apathetic and ambivalent. We have never finished a meal here under an hour and have never felt rushed until this dinner. My family and I were disappointed that with all the Greek food choices, that we came here and had a very poor experience. I do not know if ownership, management etc has changed, but something has to change.
We can't thank Spiro and his entire staff for a truly wonderful evening. From the hostesses to the servers and everyone in between who made us feel like we were at home rather than in a restaurant. Our meals were wonderful and authentic to the Greek cuisine that we know and love. We highly recommend this to anyone looking for an intimate atmosphere with excellent food and service.
We are BIG fans of Greek food! We have been to an number of Halsted Street Greek Restaurants over the years ( Pegasus, Greek Isles, Rodytis, etc). We wanted to try something new so we tried Santorini based on Zagat review. The service and food were average at best, and the price was higher than the value. I am sorry to say, we will not be coming back.
Let me begin by saying, I love Greektown. It had been several years since I ate in Santorini's , but I won't be going back anytime soon. Very slow, disappointing service. Menu, meh. I ended up with a less than great Caesar salad. Their gyros is not made from lamb? What???? It's made from pork, again, I'm in Greektown, I'd like lamb please. Pretty disappointing evening except for the people I was with...
I went to Santorini on a Monday, and there was ample seating available, amd was not very busy. At 7 pm they were out of the daily special. The food was not my favorite, versus my other greek dinning experiences. The service was exceptional. I would not return.
Santorini is a perennial powerhouse. Always good, always consisted, always makes everybody happy. I live in the NYC area and went on a recommendation about 10 years ago and loved it. I drop by anytime I'm in Chicago and bring friends, family or colleagues. No one ever leaves disappointed. I only wish they were in the NY area.
Santorini was the perfect setting for a big group of us just wanting to eat, drink and relax with business colleagues and friends. Our gathering was casual; place is old school and authentic. We all had a great time and the guys who work there were super accommodating. Big thanks!
Taramasalata was lumpy. Needs more roe to give it that briny, taste of the sea. There was an herb in the lamb shank that I think was cardamon and also I think mint. It fought rather than enhanced the flavor the lamb. The shank was tender and moist but the sauce was little off putting.
Like everything about Santorini especially grilled meats, Greek classics, and seafood including octopus....EXCEPT I really dislike Taramasalata when made with Mashed Potatoes which is how they make it here. Would be 5 stars if they would change their recipe, because I always want to order taramasalata when I go for Greek foid.
