Santorini Greek Restaurant
I like Greek food once every few months, but I am not familiar with all of the different dishes. The servers are always friendly and respond to all of my queries "mainly about the menu."
Great lunch or dinner place for a couple or large family. Delicious dinners prepared with family recipes. Like the decor since it makes you feel like you are on the Santorini island.
Friend from the suburbs came into the Union Station and we met for lunch. Perfect location for both of us. The valet parking was a big help since I drove in from the South Side of Chicago
Despite the fact that this place has decent value for what they are serving, I found the service to be extremely lacking. Speaking for my entree, it was served cold and the waiter was extremely hard to find to remedy the situation. Further, when my dish was returned it was marginally better. The strong points were the staff who filled water glasses and the bread was free flowing. I understand that the holidays are busy for restaurants but patrons deserve decent service at any time. We weren't even given menus at our table and had to tell the waiter when he came to take our order. We were a table of 7! Unlikely that I will return.
The restaurant was 1/2 full and the host attempted to seat us next to a bussing station in a tight booth. We moved to the booth next to it to have a bit more room and avoid the traffic at the bussing station. Our waiter often took long breaks between checking on us. Our grilled octopus was Luke warm as was the Greek chicken and the green beans. And, on a To Go order for a family member who stayed home, they did not put bread in the bag. When we asked about it, they said they ran out. Really? A 1/2 full restaurant on a Monday night and they ran out of bread. I don’t think so. Miraculously, they produced a small chunk of bread as we were leaving. The food was just ok, nothing that wowed is. Chicago has too many other great restaurant choices. This was not quite mediocre. We won’t go back.
Not very good. Tons of food but it was served sloppily and the restaurant is dirty. Won’t go back
I loved everything about our experience. Great food, great wine, great service.
Great food, consistent experience. A real Chicago landmark. Will be there again and again.
Our server wasn’t good. He kept rushing us, was impatient with us the entire time and made a nice holiday dinner with our family feel very stressful. He clearly didn’t want to be working there and he couldn’t even pretend to care about providing good service.
Food was great. Service was horrible. They did not even get my reservation right and had to change tables after sitting our group down. Could not get a drink and even our water went dry. Very loud to where you could not talk across the table.
Food is excellent and ambiance is nice, but restaurant will not split checks for parties! Made it unnecessarily difficult.
Very nice dinner
Pre-show dinner with new friends. Told them we had mobility issues but got seated in back of restaurant up a few stairs. Food was good but lamb crepe was pasta not crepe.
Everything about our experience was perfect. Though we were rushing to make a show, the waiter bent over backwards to make sure the food arrived on time without rushing us through each course. All the food was first-rate, from the saganaki, to the village salad, through all the entrees.
I love this restaurant. But, I ordered a piece of fish and a salad and my waiter charged me for a full fish dinner ($27) plus a side salad ($6.50). He did not charge me for my coffee so I guess he thought that would make up for it. Next time I will just stick with the menu.
It had been a few years since my last visit. I brought two ladies I work with for a holiday lunch. The restaurant shows its age a bit, but the atmosphere is warm and the service was professional and helpful. Everyone enjoyed their food, commenting that everything was tasty and nicely prepared. For me it was an excellent black sea bass cooked on their lump charcoal grill. Perfectly moist, some olive oil and lemon on it, expertly deboned at the table by the waiter. The grilled fish alone is the best reason to visit this restaurant. And the serving was large enough to save half for my wife for dinner! Prices were reasonable and the free valet parking was very handy.
Wonderful people. Great food. Every dish was extremely flavorful and the portions are generous.
Great food, service and location
I love Santorini and have been going there for years.....a lot of years and being Greek myself,I am able to cook nearly everything on their menu. Our group of 15 on December 13th was a good experience but the food just was not hot.Everything else was fine, including service, but it would have been very nice to have had really hot food served as It was prepared.I will not stop going, but will speak to the restaurant next time about the food being hot.
Warm cheery environment for our table of 10 on a Wednesday evening during Xmas season. Very friendly and prompt waiter who gave good suggestions. The roast lamb special, grilled calamari, and flaming cheese was great! I wouldn’t recommend the combination plate tho.
We always enjoy returning to the atmospheric restaurant with many favorites: the appetizers, village salad, chicken with Greek tomato sauce, and baklava. Good service and moderate noise if you ask for a quiet area.
Our server did a nice job with our party of twelve. He was friendly and efficient. The food was reasonably good, but no wow to it.
Contiunued both great service and food ! - Thank u Forte, and Santorini's.
Food was fantastic. Waiter was adequate but seemed like he was phoning it in. Part of the experience of going to a Greek Restaurant is the enthusiasm of the wait staff! Oopahs were almost silent...
W e both had the black sea bass. It was extremely fresh and grilled to perfection.
I dined at Santorini for the first time with a colleague who was in town and asked that we go to a Greek Restaurant. He arrived prior to me and was able to be seated in a lovely booth by the window, that's where the good ends! It was nearly 20 minutes before we were acknowledged by anyone by a server- which is unacceptable under any circumstances, but particularly when the restaurant was only 60% full at the time. The server finally took our drink orders, which took another 10 minutes (now 30 minutes in) - and he forgot to bring mine (another 10 minutes). Once the food arrived, it was mediocre at best - mine was far better than my colleagues, his was so breaded that you could barely identify what it was that he was eating. With so many restaurants in Chicago - it's a shame that institutions such as this fall way below the standard. I would not recommend this establishment and will definitely not go back.
Good food and good service.
Usually have very good food and service here but not this time !
My new favorite restaurant! Everything is so delicious and a great value!
I reserved a table for 3 at 5:15 pm, looking forward to a special dinner with my niece. From the time the waiter first took our cocktail order, he let us know that we'd need to keep things moving because they needed the table for a larger group that was coming in after us. The restaurant remained half empty for the duration of our meal, but at 6:20, before we'd finished our coffee, they came and asked us to give up the table and move to the bar area, which was packed with people waiting to be seated. There were still at least 10 4-top tables available in another part of the restaurant as we left at 6:25. It was a very big disappointment and we felt rushed and unwelcome, after looking forward to a relaxing dinner at what used to be a favorite spot. I will not return to Santorini.
We had our first dinner date here in 1994, and the food, pricing and service have always been consistent. I think this is some of the best fresh fish you will have in Chicago. My husband had grouper this weekend, but the sea bass filleted tableside is always wonderful. Great small plates if you'd like to try Greek mezze (appetizers), authentic wines, cozy lighting and ambiance and noise level is great if you have kids with you or just a lively table of people. We've done all the big-ticket, high-concept restaurants in Chicago, and always come back to Santorini. They will treat you like family, and there's usually no problem getting a table at the last minute. I also like that they are open late on the weekends. Our family is of Greek descent, but I have brought my non-Greek family here and they were very impressed with the service, the quality of the food and the options you have, regardless of how hungry you are or if you want to eat healthy or indulge. Pricing is close to half of what you would pay just a little bit north of Greektown. Oh, and great homemade desserts! Give it a try! 5 stars.
I'm not sure if this was the waiter trying to provide good service, but at times my guest felt rushed to turn in their order.
We had a wonderful dining experience with another ccouple, and all 4 of us were very happy with our selections (swordfish, lamb chops, red snapper, chicken). My Athenian salad was delicious but a bit heavy on the dressing. I requested a glass of dry white wine, but what I got was not dry so the waiter graciously brought me another, "the dryest we have," but it wasn't much different and lacked crispness. This was the only disappointment. Service was very attentive but not overbearing. Sat near the fireplace with its roaring fire, lovely. Will return!
Service was non existent.
This was an authentic Greek experience! The homemade soup was outstanding. Whole snapper filleted at the table was impressive. Got us in and out quickly before a Hawks game.
We were there for dinner prior to our evening train (BTW, easy short walk to Union Station). Quiet, rustic atmosphere, unrushed, uncrowned. Simple classic Greek fare; all your faves are there. Prices reasonable.
This places has gone down hill since it’s glory days.
