Sante Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Your site is a big sham. Luckily, I phoned Santè beforehand and found the phone line was not in service.
I then phoned their adjacent Spa Holtz and learned that the restaurant was still closed because of a giant sinkhole that opened in the street in early June, cutting off access to water supply lines , etc. They are still in process of getting city and health permits in place to re-open.
Fortunately, I live in Ottawa and know the area and the owners, so alerted them to this issue.
How could you tell me that I had a confirmed reservation in a closed restaurant?
I've been to several times over the year, and usually the service is much better. The food is always good, though sometimes the portions are a little lacking, the meat dishes. This time there was a singer and a guitarist, and the closest table was about fourteen people. Not only did they get great service, at the expense of the rest of the but the singer only visited their table between sets, so nobody else had the to buy her cds, which she was autographing.
We told the waitress it was our anniversary and we received a complimentary bubbly with a floating raspberry....it was delicious and very thoughtful! The 5 courses were all very tasty and fun. The only negative, if you will, would be the fact we took the wine pairing but nothing was really explained, it just didn’t feel special. We were expecting to be wowed with the explanation of each wine choice. Other than that, the service was great, it was a wonderful evening.
No musicians and no notice on web site.
When we were first seated, a large party was just arriving, without asking our hostess asked if we would like to move to another table on the other side of the room. The great service continued throughout the evening. The meal was well plated and very tasty, priced well. Thank you for a nice experience.
This is one of my wife's favourite restaurants, so it was a natural pick for out fourth anniversary. She enjoyed all of her items very much. I was less impressed with my main course, but the other items ranged from very good to excellent.
For the first 90 minutes of our meal the atmosphere was relaxed. Our server was wonderfully attentive and humorous. However, toward the latter part of our meal, a DJ showed up and began playing loud music. It seemed more appropriate for a shopping mall than intimate dining and destroyed the mood.
I had the eggplant parmesan and it was very tasty and surprisingly filling for a vegetarian dish. It came with an assortment of mini vegetables, cut into tiny squares which were well seasoned and spiced nicely. Very satisfying meal accompanied by a medium red wine.
The bread was fall-apart fresh.
It's been some time since I've lunched here. The food continues to be good, not memorable. I was surprised by the price of the entres. Prices were high for the food offered and for lunch items in other restaurants. Will be some time before I return; there are so many options in the same area.
Let me start by saying that a fine dine restaurant is as much about the excellent food, a labor of love by the chef incharge, as it is about professional, attentive service. While Sante delivered on the former and is very well located-great views and location-the service was terrible for a place of this repute and food quality.
We kept standing at the entrance trying to catch the attention of the 2 passing servers, and not once did they as much as glance to acknowledge us or smile and greet us. Even fast food chains offer service with a smile nowadays! Food took forever to come, but was enjoyable and delicious. The duck Amuse Bouche was fabulous and the main course too was succulent and delicious! Unfortunately the service took away a lot from our rare and treasured night away without kids. This restaurant would do a lot better if they hire professional, well informed knowledgable servers-perhaps from a Hospitality Management graduate program.
It s a new year eve...i dont understand how the jazz band left at 11pm!! Moreover the sitting was wrong we were almost touching the guitar player...our tablr was soo close to the band hence very loud although we love jazz...the food was very good but the prosecco was not at the right temperature
It waa a dispointment for us as we end up having the countdown on a taxi!!!
When we arrived, we were immediately asked if we were going to the theatre, which we were. Dinner was perfectly paced so the various dishes were nicely spaces and the meal finished a little before the time we needed to leave so we did not have to rush out.
The food was excellent, as usual. The portions were a nice size and the flavours made the meal delicious.
Service was efficient without being hovering. Our server was friendly and helpful.
This was our third meal at Sante and we will definitely be back for another.
My wife and i were celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary and wanted to find a "nice" place in the Byward Market area to fit the occasion. We checked out just about every restaurant listed in the market online and it either didn't fit the occasion, the menu wasn't to our liking or were greatly overpriced. Sante Restaurant was the last one i found, and my wife and i immediately liked it. The menu was simple but offered some awesome dishes and the price was very reasonable.
My wife and I both had the Mediterranean Discovery Menu, and what a great choice. The flavors were out of this world. Our servers were very friendly and new their stuff.
It was nice for a change to sit and enjoy your supper, we were not rushed at all, and the timing between courses was perfect.
Would we go again, most definitely!
WHAT A FIND!
This restaurant is located a very short walk from Chateau Laurier. Up on the second floor, it affords a view of Wellington Street, towards Parliament. On a Thursday evening there were only 2 other table occupied, which seemed surprising given the quality of the food. However, service was very slow - it took nearly 3 hours to get through 3 courses.
The food though was great - tasteful and beautifully presented. Our table started with creamy turnip soup, beet salad and caprese salad. For mains, we had vegetarian lasagna, pad thai (served with orange, not lime), and scallops with pork belly. For dessert, creme brulee, pudding au chomeur and chocolate mousse.
If you like surprises and have no food restrictions do try the Chef's Choice menu (3 or 4 courses).
This is our go-to place when we are attending the NAC. This particular visit was outstanding! The service by Liz (I think) was great, very attentive but not bothersome. I had the Shrimp Chowder to start, the best soup I've had in a very long time. The broth was very tasty and the shrimp and squid plentiful. I followed that with the Duck done 2 ways, Duck Breast and Duck Confit. It was very, very good. Done to perfection. My first time with Duck, I'll be back! My wife had two appetizers, Focaccia with Feta and Mushrooms and warm Arctic char over salad. She raved about them all evening. There was plenty in the two apps that she didn't miss the entree. This will continue to be out go-to place for the NAC evenings!
I had the beef with root vegetables. It was cooked just right, rare, and was very tender but I found it lacked taste. The vegetables were outstanding. My friend had vegetable lasagna but it did not have any pasta, instead it had a flaky pastry, more like a vegetable tart. It was good but she was disappointed since she expected lasagna. The service was good, the place is elegant and classy but the food was disappointing.
The food is delicious and very fresh. The server is very nice and friendly. She requested the kichen made a special hamburger for my six year old as there is no kids menu at dinner. Highly appreciated! The restaurant is on second floor of conner of busy streets, next to Fairmont Hotel. It is good view of watching people. It is pretty quiet for a Sunday night during long weekend, but it is very joyful for our family!!
The ambiance here is great - quite enough so that you can have a good conversation - making it ideal for either a anniversary dinner or a business lunch where you want to be able to talk across the table without having to raise your voice. Food is all very carefully selected - local produce, organic, healthy. Great selection of wines and friendly and competent service. One of our favorites!
Something just didn't click here. They really tried to do something special, but just didn't make it. Right away it was odd - there was weird music for dining - a Euro-beat with some cuts that had a deep base that were actually uncomfortable at times. (Although overall the restaurant was quiet and easy for conversation.) We shared the scallops/kale salad appetizer - much of the kale was too tough to eat. I like raw kale, but you need to use baby kale, or massage it, and definitely cut out the stems. The salmon entree was very good. The pork belly pasta was just okay - a bit salty, and just not interesting.
Santé is going through some changes. Its menu has already changed significantly from its former Asian-fusion incarnation. I gather from the staff that there will be additional changes forthcoming.
It is probably to be expected that when a restaurant goes through changes like that, there will be hiccups. Saturday evening when I dined there, there were certainly hiccups. I ordered bottled sparkling water and was astonished to be informed that they had none. They did their best to make it right by obtaining some club soda from the next door spa, for which they did not charge me. When it came time to order food, I placed my order and was told that they had been unable that day to prepare the item I had ordered, although it was still on the menu. I ordered something else, a strip loin, which was well prepared. I will add that the hostess and waiter gave excellent polished service, which somewhat mitigated the aforementioned rough spots.
Perhaps I just happened to dine on an off-night for Santé. I hope that is the case for the sake both of Santé and its customers, because I would like to see Santé get the opportunity to reinvent itself and thrive.
