Santé at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn Ratings and Reviews
The tasting menu was amazing. The chef cooked everything from the scallops to the wagyu perfectly. The ingredients were fresh and so thoughtfully picked out. The timing through the courses were perfect. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I'm so happy with the service we received and the food.
We are "foodies" and wine explorers who are "locals" & live just down the street from this fabulous Sonoma restaurant. Yet, it took us two years to find our way here.
Already provided details in our food blog: #efficientchef. But first kudos go to Exec Chef Andrew Cain- super precise and still inventive with fresh twists on what you thought might be familiar, but each dish shows some very creative touches on favorite profiles.
Then, our Sommelier Mark was a sheer delight in his knowledge and presentation. We brought our own: 20-year old 1997 Stags Leap, not knowing how well it would show. Mark knew exactly how to handle it so we could enjoy it over the three courses of dinner. The corkage fee was a great value thanks to Mark's service!
The service by Whitney was equally a delight along with the unique bread service of Della Fattoria (Petaluma's best) made for a superb 2-hour journey.
THE BEST OF SONOMA * for fine dining.
We had the multi-course tasting menu with wine pairings and it was exceptional in every respect. My favorite dishes were the amuse-bouche of creamy custard and caviar and the incredibly tender and flavorful wagyu beef and its accompaniments. My husband's favorite dish was the black truffle risotto with white truffle foam. The wines paired with each course enhanced and were enhanced by the chef's creations. Service was superb and the entire experience was memorable.
After having a sub-par meal at the bar the night prior (service was fantastic but the food not so much) I was doubting the other great reviews of Sante. But it was a beautiful meal. Service is attentive and quick to respond. The wine list is great and possibly entirely Sonoma/Napa. The bread service is an elegant touch and my filet was the best piece of meat I've ever had.
Service was excellent, we decided to try the Tasting Menu as we didn't the previous visit. It was a great experience and I think its definitely worth trying at least once. I thought the value for the food was good; however, the value for the wine, not as much. Though it was a nice bottle of white wine, I wouldn't have it again for $100/bottle, I've had way better for less. Overall great experience and we'll probably be back to enjoy the ala carte menu as we did the first time we visited.
The food was amazing! The ambiance is good. There was a party going on in another room and the folks were really loud.
Our waitress was kind but was a bit spaced out at first so that was off-putting but she redeemed herself at the end and the other servers were amazing.
This was our third dining experience at Sante and we took visiting friends who are fellow foodies. Everyone loved the food and the ambiance. I wish they would serve the bread just a tiny bit sooner...seems if you go there really hungry you have to show a lot of self restraint as you wait for bread to arrive--tho' it is worth the wait!!!
I had surf and turf, an old name I haven't heard for years, but it was wonderful! The lobster was good but the beef was over the top! Everyone else had scallops which they must have thoroughly enjoyed, because by the time I was able to pull myself away for a moment from my meal and look around, they had all inhaled their dinners and there was not a smidge left to try :(
We brought wine, but they have an incredible list to choose from, so that is not necessary, tho' does seem to keep the bill a bit more reasonable.
Wait staff is lovely and warm, if perhaps not completely on top of it--but frankly, I think that's just the more laid back approach of Sonoma vs. the intensity in SF or Berkeley...in some ways, more like service in Italy--they don't really get in a hurry there.
Without a doubt, we will return!
We have had many celbratory dinners at Sante over the years and have never once been disappointed with the cuisine, menu choices, and the quality of service throughout the entire evening. I can highly recommend this restaurant, but my only caveat is that the extensive wine list features some very pricey stuff. I only wish there were some local wines under $60/btl.
We were staying at the Sonoma Mission Inn and thought we'd try Sante as it had earned a Michelin star in the past. We had the prix fixe tasting menu of 7 courses but honestly some of the courses really shouldn't be counted as a course due to the postage stamp size portions we received. The food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful, however the portion size really was tiny. Fortunately they supplemented us with plenty of bread so we didn't leave the table hungry. The wagyu beef course came with 4 small slices of beef about 1"x2" and about a tablespoon of gravy. Also on the plate was a delicious pureed potato swirl and a lovely carrot puree dollop. Both the potato and the carrot samplings were only as big as my little finger. Definitely wanted more of that! I don't think we'll be dining here again as there are many other wonderful dining options in Sonoma.
