Santa Fe Mexican Grill & Bar - Wilmington - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
2nd visit to Santa Fe Grill & Bar and I had the exact same thing I had the first time because it was soooo good. I had the killer Cancun shrimp tacos and a frozen pineapple margarita. Our waitress was awesome and said she has to have these tacos at least once a week - I am thinking I will be in the same boat. I loved the flavors of the taco - fresh flour tortilla, shrimp, pickled onion, cabbage and BACON - they are not that big but they are full of flavor. I am going to keep swaying my friends to have dinner here with me on our GNO.
I have eaten here over the last year at least 6 times. Each time has become progressively worse. It is now to the point that I have taken this establishment off my list. The food was horrible. I had crab cakes that looked like they came out of can headed in a microwave then sauce put on it to hide the taste. Menu says handmade not true. My wifes tacos were burnt and instead of a soft taco shell it was cooked to a hard shell. Our grand daughter's meat in her taco l could not identify. If you go each the chips and salsa only they are ok. Real disappointment I wish them luck.
Visited Santa Fe with a friend. We had been there before and had great experiences. The restaurant was just about empty - it was early on a Tuesday evening. The bar area was busy. We each had their frozen margarita/sangria cocktail -- delicious. The food, however, was not as I had remembered. I ordered a quesadilla. That was ok. The guac and the pico that came with it, however, were absolutely inedible...I took one small taste and my mouth was on fire!! There was way too much jalapeno. The same was true for the salsa on the table. Our server told us that XXXX made the salsa, pico and guac today and that he puts a major amount of jalapeno in it.
I would think that an established restaurant would have an explicit recipe for their products so that it would be consistent regardless of which staff member produced it. If I go there again I will definitely get the frozen margarita/sangria and call it a night.
We hadn't been to this restaurant in a while and decided to take my niece and her husband so that they could try the guacamole bowl. To our disappointment, it is no longer made table-side. It was pre-made in the kitchen and a bit on the spicy side. The salsa for the table was also spicy, with no option for anything milder. They have changed the menu since we were there last, and my husband and I were disappointed. I requested the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. There was no sauce that I could see and the chicken was very dry. I had also requested refried beans and got black beans instead. The gentlemen asked for a second round of drinks, while both my niece and myself clearly declined another one. The waitress brought my niece another drink and then acted like she was surprised when we told her that it had not been requested. My niece accepted it as she didn't want to cause an issue for the waitress. There was not even an "I'm sorry for the mix up" from her. My husband and I were disappointed in and will probably not go back again.
The food is fabulous, a real cut above the average Southwestern cuisine. The service was very friendly if a bit balky, but the food did arrive hot and they refilled our iced teas and chips a couple of times while we were waiting. It is the new family Tex.Mex.
Normally one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. For whatever reason there were only two waiters for the entire restaurant. The wait staff was definitely hustling but there was no way to keep up with all the customers. Shame on the management/owners. If you can't properly staff on a holiday weekend then close the doors. You should never treat your customers or staff like that, not cool!
The crab nachos were very good, more than sufficient for two. I had the camarones ala diabla and my partner had tilapia fish tacos. We both enjoyed these courses. We had also asked the waiter for Margaritas, straight up with Sauza. They were not on the menu but he brought them without any question. Very good margaritas and the service overall was excellent.
Santa Fe always has consistently tasty food. Nothing to wow a foodie but good. Every time I've ever been though they have staffing issues - typically never enough people and you wait and wait for your server. Usually it's not because they aren't working hard it's that they have too many tables. So plan accordingly.
The server was very attentive and polite. The food was wonderful. The owner came to the table to introduce himself and ask if we needed anything. Everything was perfect except for the noise level. This was a Thursday evening at 5:30 (prior to Paint Nite), and the bar was packed and very rowdy. The dining room has very few soft surfaces to absorb the noise. Aside from that; it was a great experience. Will definitely go again!!
Almost missed it as I passed under the bridge, it was lightly attended when we first arrived. The service was quick and cordial. As we heading to a show downtown, we opted for smaller fare. I chose the Queso Flameado with chorizo and my friend had the Vegetarin Quesedilla plate. Our waitress offered 2 small IPA samples to resolve a question about the choices and chips and salsa were offered. The salsa had a nice kick. The queso was outstanding and my friend ended up leaving with a snack due to the ample portions. The restaurant filled up quickly and overall we had an excellent visit and would heartily recommend this place. I look forward to warmer weather so the chance to enjoy a meal outdoors will be realized.
Decent Mexican fare (great guacamole), but the service was poor and the whole place good use some updating and a bit more light. Three of our four entrees were delivered together, one came more than 15 minutes later. And then the server dumped the check and disappeared, never checking to see if we wanted anything else. Coffee, please! Finally tracked down a different server to help.
I love the guacamole bowl and carnitas. I have to stop in 2 or 3 times a month to get my fix at lunch or dinner. My wife and I had dinner outside over Labor Day Weekend. She enjoyed her chicken fajitas, and we both really liked the margaritas we had. I forget the name, but they were made with Milagro tequila and Cointreau. I highly recommend that margarita on the rocks!
Our waiter was Davon, and he was excellent.
The tableside guacamole is a must! But skip their version of fundido - more like watered cheez whiz than mexican cheeses. Grilled Caesar salad was decent, as were the golden margaritas. Love having non-chain, authentic mexican in the neighborhood! And a lovely outdoor dining area.
Since it was raining when we arrived, I dropped my wife off at the door to park the car. When I walked in a few minutes later, my wife was already seated and a waitress was reviewing the menu with her. Can't top that. Drinks were promptly served, and the food order taken. The food arrived within 10 minutes. It was piping hot and delicious. This is a popular spot, and the dining area was crowded and noisy. Lots of young people and families.
Nice place to come for a casual dinner of good Mexican food. The margaritas are good - my husband thinks the frozen strawberry margaritas are the best he has even had. Their guacamole is wonderful - if you have enough people in your group who like guacamole (at least 2) get the guacamole bowl that is made table-side.
My hubby and I love Mexican food, so we decided to try it. We were seated quickly but our server was taking awhile to come greet us and get our drink orders. The manager realized this and came right over. We ordered our meals, it took a little longer then expected based on the amt of ppl in there but we weren't in a hurry, so we didn't mind the wait. I ordered fajitas to share w/my older son and they were not very good. In fact, the worst I've ever had. (Tough tortillas, meat that was so tough it was hard to chew, and dried up rice that was all stuck together). My hubby's dinner was DELICIOUS!! In fact I ate off his plate because there was enough for both. I voiced my disappointment and they did everything possible to make it right, which was much appreciated. If you save room for dessert, the tres leche was amazing! We will still go back, because we enjoyed everything but the fajitas!
After we were sat a waitress told us she'd be "right back" to get our drinks. Twenty minutes later and after asking two staff to get our server (while I could see her in the kitchen playing with ketchup), still no response. We ended up getting up and walking out. Too bad because this was our first time.
