Santa Fe Mexican Grill & Bar - Newark Ratings and Reviews
The location was ok, food was mediocre, and service less than expected. We made a reservation on open table and we were seated beside the busy kitchen door even though more desirable tables were empty. My water glass went empty and numerous wait staff continued to walk by it without notice even though they were not busy.
Poor service, tried to call and make a reservation and wa sinformed that I couldn't make one by calling, only by using the online service. finally made a reservation for 6:45 online and wasn't seated until 7:30 Felt like I was being jerked around and that making a reservation should not be so difficult especially when it was pointless to make the reservation. Will definitely pick a different restaurant next time
Ally was our wonderful server. Had a couple hiccups with my cranky order - not a big problem. Nice assists from other staff members when the entrees came out.
Kudos to Matt the manager for a good staff, friendly atmosphere and a good meal.
Sat at high tops in the bar, no real good place for coats as the chairs had no backs. The high tops themselves are in need of replacements, we met Matt when he came around to shim the tables.
Went for Parent's Weekend at UDel. We had reservations for four people. Our table was ready when we arrived - only draw back was being seated in the back, near the kitchen - hoped for better with making reservations weeks in advance. Our server was nice and food was good. Fun main street location.
Servers were great and very attentive. Food was just ok (chips, salsa/guacamole best part of meal). Restaurant could be cleaner/tidier...things like brooms and signage were left out in the hall/dining area. Ambiance could be improved in the back room section (maybe lower the lights for dinner), and it was very noisy in this back room section as well.
Neither the food nor the service was very good. Happy hour prices on margaritas brought them in plastic cups, tacky. Chimichurro burrito had an unrecognizable orange tinted cream drizzled on top. Entrees come with nothing, simply a burrito on a plate. Chips & salsa were good, only highlight of the meal. Server continually forgot to bring requested items - e.g. glasses of water. Server distributed food/drinks incorrectly resulting in a bunch of switching cups & plates around the table which is annoying.
This place is always jammed - now I know why. Great drinks, fresh, flavorful food (including my favorite Carnitas), and sitting outside on a gorgeous Saturday night made for s bead perfect meal. Salsa that comes with the free chips is home made and has a kick - very tasty. Margaritas are fresh and tasty - went down easy on a warm day. We will definitely be back.
Santa Fe has been my favorite Mexican restaurant for years now. Nothing beats their golden chimichangas on a day when you just want to indulge! I have taken many friends here and everyone loves the food, ALWAYS! Their margaritas are great too and the servers are always friendly. Save some room for dessert coz they have the most amazing Nutella crepes(I always get coffee ice cream in mine). And if you go here for the first time, they bring you a complimentary appetizer! Yummmmmmmm
The food was really good! I don't like beans but the black beans are really really good and have nice kick. The cheese dip has a nice smoky flavor that went nicely with the beans and flat bread. My kids loved the fries but didn't care for the tacos. They thought they were too dry and not spicy enough (Note they eat their tacos plan w/ just cheese). I had the enchiladas , they were not the best I ever had but in the top 10. The verde sauce was not as spicy as I'm use too. My husband had the burrito, he said it was the best he ever had.
It wasn't a great experience for a first time visit. A plate of nachos supreme cost $14 for a decent amount, but meat was extra, sour cream (a tiny bit) was extra. Mostly chips, little else. Our food arrived before our drinks, long wait, not that crowded, no excuse. Friendly server? No. Barely spoke. Overall: Cheap ingredients, too high prices. Many other Mexican restaurants give you good food, larger portions for less money. Chains seem to overprice. Won't waste time or money going back. Much more to offer elsewhere.
The food, ambiance and décor were most satisfactory, but the thing that made the dining experience stand out as extraordinary, was our server, EMILY. She was never without a smile; she was a big help with our selection of food; throughout the meal she attended to empty water glasses without our even noticing her comings and goings. She made sure our every need was taken care of - always with a smile on her face. You can have the best food in the world, but if the server is unpleasant, the meal is worthless. Our dining experience was a joy. THANK YOU, EMILY.
Definitely recommend making a reservation because we had a 30 minute wait when we didn't have one, and when we did have one we got seated immediately. The food is really good. Some of the best Tex-Mex we've found. The service is pretty good. We had one waitress who took time to explain items on the menu and make suggestions. But be prepared to deal with a crowd of college students. It appears to be a popular University of Delaware hangout. We've often encountered large, loud groups of students who are there to have a good time.
Seems to be a hot spot for college kids. It was very busy, on a tuesday night. Two dollar tacos were dry, the meat and the tortilla's. Soda was flat, they barely give you any sour cream or cheese that we asked for on a side and then for tacos they charge .49 cents for a tablespoon of sour cream. The cornbread was soggy and nasty. The service was slow, it took them 10 minutes to notice we were there to take our orders. 15 mins to get our drinks. And then they screwed up our bill. It was just really bad, and it was my fiance's birthday so needless to say, we won't be going back.
The good thing was that we were seated right away. It was very crowded for Happy Hour in the bar, so we were seated in the dining room. We ordered the Queso as an appetizer. It was cold and very runny when delivered by the manager. Sent it back. It was warmer, still very runny, but not hot. I do like the salsa and chips. Then we waited another 20 min or so for our entres. The entres were okay. I had the chicken Chimichanga and my husband had the seafood Enchilada. Nothing special. The wait service was okay, the waitress wasn't overly friendly, and it was hard to get her attention when needed. What should have been an hour dinner, if that, took almost two hours.
Saw this place get high ratings. It's in the University DE area. See lots of people there all the time. The outdoor area is nice. Met friends there and ordered drinks that were all great & tasty. The appetizers were good too, but when we ordered our main entrees, they were not great. My friend ordered 'baked salmon' that obviously was fried (maybe even deep friend). I ordered the fish tacos that I typically get all the time. These were the worst I had ever ordered in any restaurant... I think they have great drinks & apps for picking but would not go again for a sit down dinner.... Pluses: Décor was nice inside and out, good for kids, very big place, nice staff.
The food was just OK, but the margaritas were great! The only thing that took away from the margaritas was that when they ran out of clean glasses, they started serving them in seemingly smaller plastic cups. Also, the items on the Happy Hour food menu were very limited. The ground beef is oily, and we would like to see a chicken option for non-vegetarians who don't eat red meat. Overall, I highly recommend the frozen margaritas, but would recommend eating before or after going to Santa Fe for drinks.
