Santa Fe Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Overall a great restaurant! My daughter and I were not crazy about the breaded halibut special -- which was disappointing -- but everyone else loved their food! The service is great and, while it IS near fine-dining, it is a fun alternative to the stuffier fine dining restaurants on the island.
Not kid friendly. We had reservations and arrived on time. 2 groups our size, who arrived after us, were seated before us. We waited 30 minutes. We were told they were waiting for a particular table to open up. We were then put in a corner. It took 10 minutes until we saw our waitress. The service was simply awful. It was clear the issue was we had kids. The food was really good but we won't be back because of the way we were treated. Our kids are well behaved. This just isn't a family friendly place.
My 3rd visit over a 10 year period, and it never has disappointed! The woodfired grill and atmospher make the food and experience so enjoyable;) The pork tenderloin with fried sweet potatos is amazing and the Blackened Redfish makes for great sharing! The service was awesome too! Can't wait to visit again... Cheers!
We were welcomed by a very understanding maitre d' despite our lateness-parking in front of or around the restaurant was at a premium, and the search took at least ten minutes, to a spot on the grass under a tree. Once seated, we were greeted warmly and efficiently. Drinks and dinners soon followed. Although seated near the door, we did not feel that we were in the mainstream. The food was delicious and original. There was certainly enough that both of us could have taken it home, if we weren't attending the theater. Teas were refilled in a timely fashion as well, plates removed and we were made to feel well attended.
Sone of the best margaritas ive had in all of Hilton Head. The house margarita was amazing. I also had a goat cheese stuffed poblano pepper and a tomale that was absolutely amazing with thier red sauce! I highly recommend this place. To top pff our great experience the roof top live Spanish singer was out of this world. Worth a visit or 10!
Loved the guitar player on the upper deck, server/bartender Geneve was awesome. They had Tecate beer which was great and only $4. Ceviche was excellent. The steak I had was the special cut and had a lot of fat. It was tender though. Did not like the fried onion strings that came with it
Favorite restaurant on island for many years, always return once or twice each trip... consistently delicious food and great service, fun atmosphere.....can close eyes and pick anything on menu and it's great, but Cowboy Cut Bone-in Ribeye, Grouper, Chimichanga, Beef Burrito, Crab Cakes are favorites. Won't disappoint!
We were in Hilton Head on vacation for 4 days, sadly we didn't end up at Santa Fe until the night before we left. We tried it on a whim since the menu looked inviting (and I love Mexican food). Santa Fe had great choices from more 'classic' Mexican dishes to more creative options. Everyone in our group agreed that it was the best meal of the trip...and my 3 year old even ate all his food—HA!
The queso dip seemed to pretty much be melted Velveeta with some peppers sprinkled on top. The chips that came with it were stale. Salsa was good. I had the pork chop, which was pretty good, although the presentation left something to be desired. REALLY dark in the restaurant, so the presentation wasn't as noticeable until I took a picture. I think it's dark on purpose...
We reserved a table at Santa Fe Cafe 3 weeks before the time of our vacation and requested to sit outside because we wanted to hear the live music. When we arrived we were told no tables were available outside and that it's not possible to ask to sit outside on Open Table. There was nothing in the description of the restaurant on Open Table to indicate this, it actually mentioned the outside seating which was the entire reason we wanted to go there. After I complained the host found us 3 seats at the outdoor bar. We saw empty tables when we sat down at the.bar and one of those tables was empty the entire time we were there. The food was good but we wouldn't have gone there had we known they wouldnt give us a table outside
We arrived early for our reservation and they were able to seat us still. The food, where do I begin, we had the queso which came with chips and salsa, the salsa was homemade and extremely fresh, the queso was a smooth creamy delight. I also ordered the crab cake appetizer and it was delicious, never had any crabcake better. Ordered the chimichanga and it to was absolutely phenomenal. I actually expressed to the server, who also was great, I was upset that their food has ruined all other mexican restaurants for me. No other mexican food will ever taste the same. Superb and highly recommend.
We always enjoy Santa Fe and eat here several times of the year. Most often I would recommends reservations - but they are not required. The service is consistently good. We love their rib eye burrito and order it a lot. This is the only time in years that the steak had a notable amount of fat throughout the burrito. Chips & salsa was good so was the Cadillac margarita & the West End IPA.
Visit Hilton Head annually and this is a must do for our family. Love everything but especially crave the Salad and soups (painted desert soup is delicious and presented beautifully.) Enjoyed the early dining menu during this visit and the redfish entree was the standout: so good I wanted to go back and order it again the next night. Hilton Head dining is expensive, so the early dining menu was a terrific find!
Santa Fe is a Hilton Head standby with an interesting mix of creative Southwestern fare. The chefs have twists on standard issue New Mexico-style dishes. They also have some creations on their own. Entrees range from tacos and chile poblanos to terrific steaks. Seafood is a big part of the menu, too -- this is Hilton Head after all -- but its served up in unique ways. Dishes can be ginned up to be fairly hot, but by and large no one will be scorched unless they ask for it. The cuisine is more about inventive flavor combos than it is about Scovill units.
Santa Fe is a busy place. The two-story building -- it's set in a shopping center/office park right off the Wm. Hilton Pkwy. -- affords a rooftop bar, which features live music most nights. But it can feel a little crowded and a little busy. The wait staff is constantly buzzing up and down stairs. Bar is fine, and the wine list is okay ... but just okay.
The Santa Fe Cantina is fine restaurant and a neat change of pace in the big, wide (but often quite similar) world of Hilton Head dining.
