About Sant Ambroeus - West Village
Shortly after the original Sant Ambroeus opened its doors in Milan in 1936, a devoted following emerged. This celebrated pasticceria and confetteria became the meeting place for the local intelligentsia, whether beginning their day with Sant Ambroeus’s legendary cappuccino and cornetto, savoring panini at lunch, or spending their evening enjoying refined cuisine in the restaurant’s elegant dining room.
We translated these old-world sensibilities of Sant Ambroeus to modern times, and imported our rich culinary traditions to New York. Each of our restaurants remains authentic to our Milanese origins, and we continue to serve our culturally inspired delectables in a casual yet elegant environment.

Good local restaurant in the Greenwich Village area with good Italian food.
A place to go during the day. Evening is OK but reading menus and wine list is very difficult because the lighting is so poor. Also I like to be able to see what I am eating which was not that easy in the dimly lit restaurant.
Saturday breakfast exceptional. Charming bistro atmosphere. Cordial service. Only slightly on the slow side. We were only ones in restaurant at the time. Not a big deal. Usually eat in upper east side location which is much larger, busier and spot on service. Will be back.
Went to the west Village from mid-torn reluctantly for a business lunch. It was worth it. The food was wonderful. I ate off the Restaurant Week menu for $29, an unbelievable bargain given the fact that one of my dishes, by itself, was $25 on the main menu. I also had tuna tartare and a lemon custard pie for desert. The pasta dish, a bolanaise, was perfect cooked and tasty. Service was weak, with a repeated need to ask for the waiter. Note that the regular menu is quite pricier, but still a good price for the quality.
Had the restaurant week lunch menu, wife had duck and I had pasta bolognese, both were superb, portion just right, not too much, not too little. Both appetizers, salmon carpacio and the lentil salad were fresh and tasty. The lentil salad was huge. For dessert, we were a little disappointed with the cheesecake as we are spoiled by the new york style cheesecake and not prepared for the daintier Italian one. However, the assorted gelato was to die for, so tasty and generous. The only thing that spoiled lunch a bit was not the fault of the restaurant, but there were two separate tables of customers who were unable to modulate their voices which were heard throughout the restaurant. One of the offending patrons sat at the table next to ours but thank goodness we were on our dessert already and only had to hear them for about 10 minutes. Again, not the fault of the restaurant and I would definitely recommend eating here and we will certainly do so again.
I have been to this restaurant several times before but was rushed after our entree. Also, the service was very slow and I had to ask when my iced tea was coming...had to wait for something to add to my very dry sandwich.
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience.
Music was very loud and inappropriate. Hearing great jazz vocalists from the 30's and 40's at a much too high a volume was an interference in an otherwise superb dinner. We carefully choose the food and wine but the music was as in most restaurants poorly chosen and I am a fan of that kind of music in an appropriate setting.
