Sant Ambroeus - Madison Avenue
We translated these old-world sensibilities of Sant Ambroeus to modern times, and imported our rich culinary traditions to New York. Each of our restaurants remains authentic to our Milanese origins, and we continue to serve our culturally inspired delectables in a casual yet elegant environment.
As longtime and repeat guests from Chicago, we were extraordinarily disappointed to be seated close by another table when the restaurant was empty on Easter Sunday evening. The hostess and manager, when told at the end of the meal, were less than accommodating. Basically, the hostess lied and stayed the table we desired next to us was to be seated in :15, when inquired at seating. This was not the case as no guest/s joined for well over an hour, and no return to the table by hostess and manager ever occurred. The Dole Sole was rubbery and not cooked well.
When we indicated our disappointment at departure, both manager and hostess were less than helpful. We will not return and most definitely not recommend to anyone else, as we have told countless friends and colleagues to enjoy the hospitality and food when in New York. No more!
Enjoyable restaurant just a bit exaggerated in prices.
We know Sant Ambroeus for years in Milan and in New York. The service and the food were always outstanding. The only minus was that the Barolo Borgognoli (by the glas) was a little bit herb, not as soomth as I thought it would be.
Dining at Sant Ambroeus is so civilized. The food is divine. The service is attentive and polite. The clientele comes from the neighborhood, one of Manhattan's most sophisticated. This isn't for tourists who are looking for an affordable bite to eat after visiting an area museum. But if you're looking to see how the well-heeled dine in the area, this is the place.
We are big fans of Sant Ambroeus. Never disappoints, always excellent!!
Sant Ambroeus is always a very big pleasure to return to a restaurant that knows how to treat customers each and every time, and serve consistently very good food. We always welcome an opportunity to go and be a part of their “family”!
Good spot in madison for a quick fancy bite.
Plain and simple, Sant Ambroeus serves solid Italian cuisine.
Each time I come to NYC I make it a point to visit Sant Ambroeus! One of my all time favorite restaurants!
The food is quite overpriced for what it is, and service isn't anything exceptional either. Portions are generous though.
Best truffle pasta ever, great Italian wine selection
Very charming and welcoming place. The staff are courteous and friendly at all times, the food is exquisite and authentic, the ambiance is sophisticated but not stuffy. All in all a great experience!
Lovely meal ... great, attentive service.
There was a large party near us so it was a bit loud.
The food was very good and everyone was attentive.
Very nice breakfast presentation. Dining room noise level is a bit excessive. Voices carry & can be distracting
Went for a latish lunch on President's Day. Had to wait a few minutes past reservation time as doing a brisk business, looked like "regulars " lingering.
Once seated, after gazing at pastry/bakery counter, service was pleasant and efficient. Had my usual Vitello tonnato, delicious, accompanied by a couple of glasses of prosecco. Great bread.
Had been at West village location a couple of weeks before, a bit surprised prices are roughly $5 more on many dishes here but it is Madison Ave!
Lovely ambience & good service - a bit pricey
Wonderful. As usual.
It is something we always look forward to when coming to the city. The service is warm and friendly and the food is consistently excellent.
Been there several times. Always enJoyed. This time, however, you outdid yourself. The Risotto du Mare was outstanding.
It’s expensive for not a lot of food but it’s about the environment really.
Host was obnoxious. Was visibly disturbed about us adding one more to our reservation EVEN though I called to confirm and add, he said I did not..
Food was good, entrees were just okay. And $29 salad is ridiculous, they are all over $20.. absurd!
For the money.. not impressed. Entrees were just okay. We had salmon and a couple of pasta dishes.. not much taste.
Service was not great. Mostly ignored us but we got our meal on time..
Overall.. the Madison Ave location is obnoxious and so is its staff. And for those prices I expect good service.
Always satisfied with the high level of service and great quality of food here.
We went here with a party of six, which included two kids and everyone enjoyed.
Ordinarily we have recommended, but had a bad meal not worthy.
Today - different from other days host was nasty! Always had a great time!
Excellent customer service!!!!
They're always busy, so the noise level is deafening.
The food quality is slipping a bit as their prices are going up.
We love it here. Madison Ave location is stellar. Service is kind and on their A game. Food is delicious and take out patisserie is wonderful. It's an NYC 10!! I hope they keep up the great work. Madison Ave location better than other... :) Cheers
Service was not attuned to us. Kept on interrupting in the middle of conversations and clearing table at inopportune moments.
Checked our coats at the vestiaire, and they smelled of kitchen when we retrieved them.
Had nostalgic souvenirs of Sant Ambroeus from the time I was living in NY a few years ago. Has changed and not for the better
Ambiance always lovely, service great, food wonderfull
This is something special. The rare find of true excellence, across the board.
My daughter said it's the BEST Dover Sole in NYC ! She's 11!!
First, my Engish is not fluent. When receiving my order, the male manager looked he didn't want to wait even though I was seeing the menu. I asked "what kind of pasta is good today?" and he just said "Pasta? awesome" So I felt bad, I wanted to change it to soup, THEN HE MADE A FACE. And I wanted to order a steak, and he SIGHED, saying sth like "OK, Chicken? veal? beef?" I was almost scared and answered veal. This is the most HUMILIATING part, he scoffed and asked me "THIS IS 79$. Is it ok?" I really wanted to walk out, but I didn't have time for making a reservation in another restaurant.
Not mentioning a waiter who poured still water into glass (sparkling)without asking (and they even made a mistake charging the bottle of sparkling water which they described to me as free, of course they should it was their mistake!), I felt it was definitely a discrimination. I am an Asian woman in 30s. I can't speak English very fluently. And I was alone there. Duing all time, I just wanted to leave the restaurant as soon as possible. It was my birthday, and wanted to make a good memory on the last day of my trip. But it was the worst choice. I paid more than 120$ including 20% tip, cuz didn't wanted to be same person as them.
Taste? Veal steak was served well-done, because they didn't ask me how I like the steak done. Smell was disgusting. Food was basically BORING, including plating skills.
Ambience? Crowded like a supermarket in sale time. Value?
No need to say. What kind of restaurant is like this?
I want to recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy at work, whom I deadly want to waste their
money and time.
New years and my wife’s birthday
Haven’t been to Sant Ambroeus in probably 20 years (way before kids), so we remembered it as amazing. Celebrated my husband’s 50th birthday here on a recent trip to NYC...this time with our 3 kids (16, 14 and 11) in tow. Not much on the menu my kids would eat but they all found a basic pasta that would do (for $30+ each). So all in all, food was good, atmosphere was nice (not touristy) and service was excellent. My only complaint was that it was super pricey for what it was. I wouldn’t take my kids back, but I’d def go back with just my husband.
The food was not the best. The spaghetti with meat sauce tasted as though the meat was not washed or seasoned. I’ve honestly had better sauce at cheaper UES places such as UVA. The service was AWFUL. At a restaurant of this price point, I shouldn’t have to ask for bread and water. Overall the staff was inattentive, never checked in on us. Save your money and skip this place. The Olive Garden is probably a better Italian restaurant...hope that gives you an idea of how terrible Saint Ambroeus is
Just fantastic as always. Lovely especially during the holidays.
