Sansei, meaning third generation, is a locally owned contemporary Japanese Restaurant offering new wave sushi. The force behind the food is Chef/Owner Dave "DK" Kodama. An Oahu native, he is fearless when it comes to flavors and one of the most adventurous chefs you will meet. At Sansei, he has combined his Japanese heritage with Hawai'i's incredible ethnic mix and the flavors he experienced in his travels to create a New Wave Sushi, Japanese-inspired Pacific Rim, Contemporary Japanese type of cuisine. Call it whatever you like. What you will taste are unique combinations of flavors and textures.
We sat at the Sushi Bar and received excellent service with a curated experience from the Chef. Highly recommended.
The food is always great! We decided to order small plates and share. Had a chance to taste a lot of different items. Also ordered a steak from next door and was not disappointed.
Really great food. The tiger roll was our favorite. Our server was very friendly and prompt. I had a lychee martini and it was great!!
Busy restaurant- food & service excellent- for those who love sushi- lots of other options as well
A top-rate sushi and Japanese restaurant in Waikiki. This restaurant has a lovely view of the beach from the third floor. The food is interesting and beautifully presented. We had a fabulous meal!
Food came fast and friendly service. Must try their crab truffle ramen.
Always great, regular stop. One of my top 5 in the city
Great food and very accommodating!! Outside seating was perfect!
This is a "sushi" restaurant from Maui Hawaii so don't criticize if its not "authentic" enough for you. The beer is cold, sake can be hot if you want, and you can get a nice view of Waikiki and the sunset.
Plan on eating fish when you go here, relax and go with the flow. Take your time and explore the menu. Maybe start off with a crab and mango hand roll? The rice is nicely done, and the fish is delicious, so you can't go wrong no matter what you order.
They have some cooked fish on the menu, and the miso butterfish always hits the spot. And if you just have to order something other than fish at a sushi restaurant, they do have some American style entrees. I don't know if they have a keiki menu, but I imagine they could come up with something.
Great food, selection and service along with great company ... what can top that? We'll be back sooner than later. Thank you Ben, our server!
Excellent service and food. Went here 3 times in our month long visit to Honolulu.
Fantastic find! We’ve now been there twice. Our waiters on both occasions have been excellent, attentive but not intrusive and patient! The food was delicious, Asian fusion, full of flavour. Atmosphere was relaxed but stylish. All in all, I couldn’t recommend Sansei more highly!
We had a great dining experience here. Service was awesome, Friendly staff all around. Extensive menu and delicious food!
Yuting He, our server was excellent! She provided great service and had an amazing smile and attitude!
The sushi, sashimi, and maki at Sansai are very good! The chef's specialties are to be especially recommended. Nothing ground- breaking or cutting edge, but very fine and reliable Japanese seafood. The service is terrific and the outdoor patio seating is lovely, though frequently very noisy.
Valentines Family dinner. Duck, best duck I’ve ever had. Filet, wife said it was the beat she had. Kids ate Kalbi and Kids sushi plate , are everything. Ono.
Two out of six dishes were decent, not a good showing. No longer a top-notch restaurant; really sad.
No distinct tastes; "dynamite" fizzled; not a place to return to.
Terrific food and service - we had sushi and tempura. Definitely would go again.
Seated outside. Just beautiful
Great food and service
Our sushi was served separately, one at at time with long breaks in between to a party of six. Unacceptable. The food was good and the drinks were a good pour, just lousy service.
Always as good as it gets. The variety of FRESH food is endless and the service is top notch.
A regular stop for me locally and when I have guests from the mainland.
The sashimi platter took 40 minutes to prepare and it was disappointing. The price was not worth it. The service was good because restaurant offered us free miso soup to compensate the wait.
We had a great experience. Our waiter was amazing and recommended the best sushi for us! Such a great experience and amazing food!! Thank you!!!!
Excellent service. Food was tasty. Very nice touch accommodating special occasion.
Surprisingly excellent food and service. Such a great restaurant to have as an option as a Marriott guest.
Worst sushi ever had.
Lovely table outside, menu was very extensive with lots to choose from. I had sushi and my husband had salmon. Both very good. Very convenient location within our hotel. I would recommend.
Server was outstanding and the food was scrumptious (especially the pank crusted ahi sashimi; I still can’t stop thinking about it!). I would definitely go to Sansei again!
Service was very good. We thought it was too expensive for the quality of the food. Too much noise.....décor average.
I liked the crab broth!
First time we have ever ordered a speciality roll that was just plain horrible. Service was also terrible. Wouldn’t recommend this Resturant ever😞
Server was excellent. Food was delicious and reasonably priced for a WAIKIKI hotel restaurant. I would definitely go back again.
Wonderful date night with my husband in Waikiki!
Raw seafood is always my concern but I'm never worried whenever I dine at Sansei. Fresh, raw fish should not ever smell fishy. If it does, then you know it's old or spoiled. Sansei's excellent chefs are trained to select the most freshest fish and it's kept in a chilled environment so that it does not go bad. Whenever I'm looking for consistently fresh fish, with a variety of sushi options, I always think of Sansei. Oh, and by the way, we ordered their aged beef, and served it "pupu -style". This means it's cooked and sliced, and meant to be shared, like an appetizer. That, and along with the foie gras sushi, was so "ono" (delicious)!
No bread here, just edamame. Expensive for what you are getting. But the ahi carpaccio was outstanding. So was the shrimp appetizer. Delicious and very satisfying. The fish which came with birds nest shrimp was excellent as well.
Something for every taste and appetite! Ono food with great service!
All of us really enjoyed the appetizers and sushi rolls.
