Sanfords has been an Astoria landmark since 1922. The Sanfords of today serves exceptionally well prepared American comfort food, in a modern, casual & sleek environment. The space is bright & alive during the day. Dim, candlelit and relaxing in the evening, with loungy tunes playing in the background. The combination of lighting, sound & warm colors create a truly unique vibe in the space.
Aside from the great food & atmosphere, Sanford’s also boasts Queens Largest Whisky Bar stocking over 300 single malts and bourbons, as well as 30 wines by the glass. All of our wines are maintained in the Le Ver devin Wine preservation system, which pumps the precise amount of air out of each bottle of wine that is opened.

While Sanfords has no live music, it has become known for the unique bossanova, chill-out, and international tunes played in its state of the art sound system for diners to enjoy in the background while enjoying their meals.
Metered street parking is available from 8:30am – 7:00pm, a private parking lot is located around the corner on 31st Street, and a municipal public parking lot is located on 31st Street next to McDonalds.

I went for dinner. The food was ok. I previously went there for brunch. Which I think is better. For dinner we shared the lobster Mac and cheese. There were large pieces of lobster in it so that was a plus. Outside of that, it was ok. It just tasted like lobster, pasta and cheese separately. There wasn’t a connecting flavor, if that makes sense. I also had the truffle burger which I didn’t particularly care for. For brunch and dinner it’s a pretty loud atmosphere. It was hard to hear each other without raising our voices and constantly saying ‘what?’ The service was fine. Attentive. If you want a food experience, go somewhere else. But if you just want a place with not terrible food, energetic atmosphere, that’s open late go here. Everyone’s palate is different, or I may have just picked dishes that are not the highlights of their menu. It’s worth trying at least 2x, once for for dinner and brunch.
I was really looking forward to dining here based on so many wonderful reviews. I was disappointed with the quality of the food and the ambiance. It felt like it was trying to be more of a club than a fine dining experience. The food itself was glorified Chili’s or Applebee’s.
We recently enjoyed a small family birthday brunch celebration at Sandfords. The decor is attractive, the seating cozy and comfortable and the staff welcoming and attentive. The menu selections were numerous and all looked good! We noticed the dishes of others diners set down and all were plated in an attractive manner. The items we chose were delicious and a special recommendation for the pecan crusted chicken salad. It was really unusual. Overall a very relaxed, tasty and enjoyable meal. One member of our party had already eaten at Sandfords and knew it is a neighborhood gem.
The hostess was TERRIBLY rude. She had me standing for 10 minutes until my entire party of TWO other people got there only for me to tell her they’re already here at the bar waiting, to have her keep me waiting AGAIN. AND she walked right by me TWICE as I asked her a question. Is that really the type of person you want your customers to first see as they enter greeting them? Second, she finally took us to a table where it was freezing! When asked to move, we were told we can’t because all other tables are reserved. Seriously? ALL? Anyway, the food wasn’t really great. I got the ravioli and it tasted very old. The sauce had a really gross taste. My friends didn’t like their food either. Lastly, their dessert was the only good thing on the menu.
Service was slow, it looked like the entire restaurant had two servers, yet three hostesses were constantly socializing with each other watching customers get impatient and go unattended. I couldn’t even get a refill on my water. My friends did the boozy brunch special and couldn’t even get the second drink that was included because the service was so slow and by the time someone finally got to us, they just took their first drinks and walked away - felt ripped off. The food was good! My dish was poorly made, I got the chilaquiles verdes and it was all soggy and runny. The truffle Mac and cheese was great and the avocado toast was too! The steak skillet was pretty good and my friend loved the crab cake Benedict.
Came here for dinner as a second-chance opportunity not having tremendously enjoyed a brunch experience about a year ago. Happy hour was a great deal at $6 a glass, the bourbon cocktail I ordered was delicious, and our meals were filling and tasty. Two Chick Pallards, a truffle burger, and the braised short ribs were enjoyed. Service was friendly and the holiday decor very pretty. Would come back for another go.
the service wasn't so great. added the package coffee tea drinks for 10 bucks a person, and there was no offer of coffee ever... very busy and wit staff was not catering to us by any means... had to wait a while just to pay bill... everybody enjoyed their meal though....great menu, but not for vegans.
Had another great dinner at Sanford's. The food was all excellent: butternut squash ravioli, salad special, filet and sides. Love that the dinners all come with a warm bread basket and choice of soup or salad. The food was all fresh and cooked perfectly. The wine list was very good and the Sauvignon blanc I got by the glass was delicious and a generous portion. Only wish was that we had saved room for dessert as the menu was very inviting. Our waiter was friendly, patient and well trained, water glasses were constantly filled and proper attention was paid to us throughout the meal.
Excellent all around. Particularly liked the menu as there was something for everyone. We went for brunch and there were great breakfast and lunch choices. The $10 2 drinks + coffee was the kicker. My wife had one drink the the coffee and I the other drink. Service was very good as well.
Jay the bartender was really knowledgeable and a pleasure to sit with at the bar.
I had read about the extensive scotch and whiskey selection. My son and husband are scotch drinkers. Then my father in law told us about the diner that it used to be. My husbands grandfather had been a regular there.
We were all pleasantly surprised. And the Scotch selection really impressive.
Our waiter was awesome. He helped us decide what to order and was very funny. The food was delicious. We had the risotto, seafood paella, and several of the appetizers as our main dishes - including filet mignon egg rolls and chicken fingers. The portions were very filling. The drinks were great - no scimping on the alcohol. They have a great selection of whiskeys. I would really recommend this restaurant.
This place near my subway stop has expanded, transformed and upgraded itself in the last few years. It's popular and fairly noisy at the times you would expect it to be, especially weekend brunch. I don't think there are any bargains, but the food is fresh, well prepared and the portions are generous. For me, it is not a destination.
Oh, the owner refuses to turn down the music. Some people, I suppose, like the vibe, but I want to talk to the person I am with, and when I am alone, I like to hear myself think.
