Sanctuary, with its chandeliers and vaguely gothic ambiance - protected by gargoyles like the sanctuaries of Europe - is elegant, yet comfortable. It is meant to be a haven where food, service and ambiance please the senses. A fireplace warms cold nights - a patio with flowers and herbs celebrates summer. With thick limestone, rough timbers and ceiling beams dating back to the 1860's, it reminds you of that small romantic place you'd love to visit again.

Sanctuary serves New American Cuisine, deftly combining immigrant influences from the Mediterranean to Japan into dishes that are delicious, amazing and satisfying. The menu stays enticing with weekday Tasting Menus, special creations Fri./Sat. and menu changes every other month. The StarTribune said, “[I] loved the well-paired wines, the genial service, the cozy surroundings and the kitchen's finesse."

Located one block from the Guthrie, it is the perfect place for dinner before or after a show.

It was very nice, very quiet and good for conversation. Parking lot next door was convenient on a cold winter night, but close to the stadium might make it hard to get to during an event. The food was interesting and the tasting menu looked like fun. Each dish was good, but the starter Posole was not the least spicey and the portion was too tiny. Service was fine, attentive without being intrusive. Our server seemed to be the bartender and since he was always in eyesight it was easy to keep an eye on us. The main entree of short ribs was very succulent , and savory, but again a seemingly very small serving. The highlight was the Tres Leches desert which was just right in sweetness and portion. It was a fine and good meal without being a standout . I would go back and try some of their other offerings that looked interesting.

Pleasantly surprisingly little restaurant tucked away on Washington Street, Sanctuary is a neighborhood gem waiting to be discovered. The service is one of the best experienced in quite a while, with a firm knowledge of the menu, a keen understanding of timing, and the right pace to move along the meal. The food is creative, decorative, and (most importantly) showcases a good grasp of flavors and textures. The bone marrow is a staple on the Starters menu for good reason, while just about any entree is worth your while to sample. Definitely save room for dessert, which is carefully plated and provides a fresh, sweet ending to an excellent dining experience.

Chloe was a wonderful waitress. Charming and helpful. Her meal suggestions were perfect and she helped to pick the perfect wine for the meal. Steaks were done to perfection and the brownies desert was excellent. The meat and cheese appetizer was excellent and my wife could not stop talking about how wonderful the micro greens were. Overall, one of out best anniversary dinner ever.

The owner, Mike, was friendly and welcoming. Excellent service, beautiful and intimate space, and the food was creative enough to be fun and interesting without going too far. We especially enjoyed the “sexy shots” dessert - really fun to share with a date!

Sanctuary has yet to dissappoint my boyfriend and I. The drinks, the food, the artwork, the staff is all awesome. They change up the menu every 3 months, but keep the favorites. I look forward to my next visit.

Service was great and friendly, atmosphere was relaxing. I did not enjoy anything else. 4oz filet mignon was tough and under cooked, duck breast was over cooked, scallop was undercooked. Everything was fairly bland and under-seasoned, though, over-priced cosidering food quality. Tiny and cramped... skip it.

My wife and I love this hidden little gem. We have been regulars for our annual anniversary dinner for several years now. We always get taken well care of and it keeps us coming back. This is a great restaurant.

Not what it used to be. It's been several years since I've been there. I didn't find the food particularly well balanced in terms of spice/flavor. Steak was rather bland. Scallops basically just tasted like pepper. Apetizer just tasted like hot sauce.

It was a cold night, but warm and cozy inside. We had the tasting menu and were not disappointed. The smell of mulled wine wafted from the kitchen and that was a hit also. This is a gem of a restaurant.

Quiet business dinner with out-of-town guest went very well due to attentive but not overbearing service, outstanding food, great selection of food and drink options.
