Sanctuary has excellent food with an upscale, but not pretentious atmosphere. Service is top notch and the proximity to the Guthrie is hard to beat.
Been coming to this resturant for over a decade and have always loved it. Great food and best maitre d in the Twin Cities!
Love Sanctuary!! The food is delicious and the service is superb! We also received an excellent recommendation for the wine bottle we purchased for dinner. The host was delightful and started our experience on a high note!
We had a wonderful experience as always. The banana split with a deep fried banana was the perfect way to end our meal!
The chef’s choice did not disappoint in any way! We did the wine parings which enhanced each dish. Excellent!
We had not been here before, but really enjoyed the experience and would definitely return. We were there on a Thursday and ordered the 5-course tasting menu with the 4 paired wines. The food, wine, and service were all excellent.
I love sanctuary and come here regularly if there is something to celebrate or for pre theatre dinner. The place is simply amazing and the food beyond delicious. Highly recommend.
I brought my daughter to Sanctuary as she had never been to this wonderful restaurant before!
We were welcomed warmly and were seated right at our reservation time. Our waitress was outstanding and the opening hummus and almonds were delightful! We had the bone marrow as our appetizer and my goodness (enough said)! We made friends with our seatmate next to us as it is wonderfully cozy and we talked about how outstanding our main courses tasted! Make sure and have yourself a Purple Rain drink! YUM! We will be back again:)
Sanctuary is one of our favorite spots for a special night out. The food is always unique, beautiful and delicious!
Some of the food was cold including the scallops and the potatoes that were labeled as portions to share at the table. Was surprised with the portion size of the potatoes. Really only enough for one person.
The bone marrow was excellent. I highly recommend that starter.
Fantastic as always! Micheal and his staff never disappoint. The Baileys chocolate creme brûlée was the perfect ending to a great dinner.
It was great! The food was phenomenal! We were literally the last group to leave!
The food was pretty good. The appetizer was a much larger portion than expected. It would be a good place to get wine and dinner on a romantic night.
This was our second time selecting the tasting menu, and though it was very different from last time, it was equally delicious !
Wonderful French food with both rich and light options. Nice variety in the menu.
It was our first time there and all four of us loved it. I loved the way the space felt, intimate and very interesting. It was quiet enough to hear each other which we wanted for good conversation. Food was excellent! Scallops were so yummy!
Our server was so nice. We had a great evening. Thank you!
This was a nice dinner in downtown Minneapolis . Walking distance from my son's apartment and a cozy atmosphere with an enjoyable menu . The waiter was outstanding - knew his menu and wine /cocktail pairings . Would like to go back for a tasting menu on a Mon - Thursday . And to dine in the outdoor seating area in the warmer months .
Wonderful, cozy atmosphere. Bacon wrapped shrimp was delicious. Gave us a special drink for our birthday celebration. Staff was very friendly.
The 5 course chef’s tasting menu was wonderful! It’s available Monday through Thursday. Good service too. The wine pairing was delicious. At our request they made a delicious substitution for the Chardonnay. Really nice.
The wait staff is beyond perfect! And the food, always incredibly fresh and original.
We had a nice time at Sanctuary! The food was great, service was good and there was nice ambiance to the restaurant.
Chef Gary nailed restaurant week's menu! All of the food was fantastic! Pamela did a wonderful job of taking care of us as well!
It was very nice, very quiet and good for conversation. Parking lot next door was convenient on a cold winter night, but close to the stadium might make it hard to get to during an event. The food was interesting and the tasting menu looked like fun. Each dish was good, but the starter Posole was not the least spicey and the portion was too tiny. Service was fine, attentive without being intrusive. Our server seemed to be the bartender and since he was always in eyesight it was easy to keep an eye on us. The main entree of short ribs was very succulent , and savory, but again a seemingly very small serving. The highlight was the Tres Leches desert which was just right in sweetness and portion. It was a fine and good meal without being a standout . I would go back and try some of their other offerings that looked interesting.
Pleasantly surprisingly little restaurant tucked away on Washington Street, Sanctuary is a neighborhood gem waiting to be discovered. The service is one of the best experienced in quite a while, with a firm knowledge of the menu, a keen understanding of timing, and the right pace to move along the meal. The food is creative, decorative, and (most importantly) showcases a good grasp of flavors and textures. The bone marrow is a staple on the Starters menu for good reason, while just about any entree is worth your while to sample. Definitely save room for dessert, which is carefully plated and provides a fresh, sweet ending to an excellent dining experience.
Chloe was a wonderful waitress. Charming and helpful. Her meal suggestions were perfect and she helped to pick the perfect wine for the meal. Steaks were done to perfection and the brownies desert was excellent. The meat and cheese appetizer was excellent and my wife could not stop talking about how wonderful the micro greens were. Overall, one of out best anniversary dinner ever.
Great food! Unique offerings and pairings with side dishes. Can’t wait to go back!
The dishes all look and taste delicious. the menu is very creative and changes often. Always a great meal.
The owner, Mike, was friendly and welcoming. Excellent service, beautiful and intimate space, and the food was creative enough to be fun and interesting without going too far. We especially enjoyed the “sexy shots” dessert - really fun to share with a date!
Had a very enjoyable meal here before heading to Theater in the Round. Excellent food and service!
The week night tasting menu is a great value and the cocktail pairing was fantastic!
Great food, service and atmosphere!
Sanctuary has yet to dissappoint my boyfriend and I. The drinks, the food, the artwork, the staff is all awesome. They change up the menu every 3 months, but keep the favorites. I look forward to my next visit.
Service was great and friendly, atmosphere was relaxing. I did not enjoy anything else. 4oz filet mignon was tough and under cooked, duck breast was over cooked, scallop was undercooked. Everything was fairly bland and under-seasoned, though, over-priced cosidering food quality. Tiny and cramped... skip it.
Nice restaurant. Cozy, good food. They offer a 5 course tasting menu Mon-Thurs at a very good price.
My wife and I love this hidden little gem. We have been regulars for our annual anniversary dinner for several years now. We always get taken well care of and it keeps us coming back. This is a great restaurant.
Great selection of food. The waitress was very knowledgeable. Great restaurant for a date, it was cozy. Cool art on the wall which tells an interesting story.
Not what it used to be. It's been several years since I've been there. I didn't find the food particularly well balanced in terms of spice/flavor. Steak was rather bland. Scallops basically just tasted like pepper. Apetizer just tasted like hot sauce.
I so want to give this place 4 or 5 stars. It's quite lovely. The food was very good and our table service was extraordinary. But the totality of the experience was a bit schizophrenic. When we arrived for our 7:30 reservation, there were at least a dozen open tables throughout the dining room, yet the hostess seated us at a table that was practically on top of the table she had seated just prior to us. We asked if we could move and were accommodated, but it felt weird. We were promptly greeted by our server, who shared the evenings' specials with us, and then we ordered a cocktail that we thought we might enjoy while we perused the menu and made our dining decisions. It took 20 minutes for those cocktails to arrive which seemed odd as my husband had asked when ordering if he had a choice of spirit and was told "no" because the signature cocktail he ordered was premixed. So why does it take 20 minutes to pour a premixed cocktail? We finally ordered salads , entrees, and a bottle of wine. Both salads - baby bib and Caesar - were yummy and fresh, and my duck breast entree was amazing. My husband ordered the short rib which was well prepared but very under seasoned. The Bailey's and chocolate creme brulee was good enough but underwhelming. We'll probably go back and give them another try. I do really want to like this restaurant because it's such a beautiful and interesting space.
Nice place & great employees!
It was a cold night, but warm and cozy inside. We had the tasting menu and were not disappointed. The smell of mulled wine wafted from the kitchen and that was a hit also. This is a gem of a restaurant.
