Jeanie is the greatest! Amazing atmosphere, killer house cocktails, BEST food, and the service is next level. Everyone should go
The food was excellent. Everyone enjoy their meals and we all ate something different. The only complaint was that they sat us in the back of the restaurant near a door where all of the employees were leaving to smoke. It was freezing that night and so we would have enjoyed the meal more had there not been so much cold air blowing through the restaurant. I am sure that there's a much better Ambiance when the weather is warmer.
I'd heard their reputation for excellent, unique craft cocktails, and I wasn't disappointed. The bartender was clearly enthusiastic about his craft, and brought our drinks out to our table himself. The drink "God Save the Queen" was a particularly delightful surprise. I didn't try the food, but I will certainly go back for the drinks!
Food was delicious, service was excellent!
The overall vibe of Sanctuaria was very intimate and relaxing. The bartenders were super helpful and accommodating. The food and drink quality was wonderful. I will definitely be back!
Made reservations two days in advance. Arrived on time and table wasn't ready. Ten minutes later the hostess seated us right next to the restroom. There were several other tables, so when I asked to be re-seated, she told me they had a 10-top coming in...basically "tough luck".
Shocked at her response since there were many 4-top tables uncleaned and clearly open, I asked my wife if she'd like to leave. She was engaged in a conversation with the folks seated at the adjacent 4-top table (also right next to the restroom) who had complained about the same thing except they had a reservation for six, only four made it, so they gave up their 6-top nowhere near the restroom only to regret it. The manager was rude to them...they were livid.
We should have just left.
It took 2 requests to get a second menu., 2 more to get water. Then the waitress arrived and asked if we had made up our minds...like this was a cheap diner with a wall-menu or something. We asked for the renowned drink menu -- one of the main reasons we made a reservation -- only to learn from her that "nobody ever looks in there" and that she couldn't recommend a single drink. My wife got the drink the waitress said "is the most popular"...which turned out to be $22 and not good.
We ordered three small plates as appetizers. The first was hot on top, cold on the bottom...didn't take Albert Einstein to figure it out. The others were just OK. Ordered the Meatloaf (which was great) and the Jambalaya off the main plates menu. The latter consisted of four meatball-sized fried balls – for $18!. Asked if that was the small plates version and got the stare. What a ripoff!
Desserts arrived. Churros weighed 4 ounces each. Fried too cold – grease sponges. Was offered a dessert off the Valentine's Day menu from two days prior – was dry, tasted like it had been sitting out the whole time.
Oh, the 10-top never showed up. All but one of the other tables were still empty when we left 90 minutes later.
It was our first time at Sanctuaria, the food was very good, honestly I think I had the best chicken fajitas ever! The margarita was perfect! But the service was very slow and the waitress was weird!? But there was a lot of people saturday night and it is not surprising if it took some time to get the drinks and the food! But I do recommand to try this restaurant and we will go again I am sure!
This is the second time I have been to Sanctuaria and it is now one of my favorites in St Louis. It is a fun atmosphere with great food. I think it is better to go with friends or other couples as it allows you to try more of the menu. Go, you won't be disappointed.
My reservation was at 7:15. We did show up early to our reservation and was promptly accomodated. Food was delicious, drinks were too but service lacked. Not because our waitress was bad, but because she had too many tables.
Best tapas in town , had a great time and drinks were amazing
The reason I took my wife here for Valentine’s Day was bc we have been here before, and loved the menu.
When we went for Valentine’s Day, we only had 3 entree options, and no options from their normal Tapad menu (this is supposed to be a tapas restaurant?). We got the “dinner for 2” for $135, and I have to say - the food was not impressive or cheap. We were definitely disappointed. Lesson learned - moving forward, I will always verify what menu will be offered prior making dinner reservations on special days/holidays at any restaurant.
All of that said, the staff there is always great and friendly. Good atmosphere. As long as the old menu comes back, we will too.
Always good food and prompt service
Great food & atmosphere would return. Service on excellent
Evan was great and moved quickly with our order. He also made great suggestions. Seating was crowded and we were placed next to a large group. Hostess would not move us to another table further away that was available.
The food was DELICIOUS and the atmosphere was super cool. However, we had two drinks and 3 small plates and our bill was $100, before tip. We were still hungry so we went to Urban Chestnut and finished filling up on two bratwursts for $17.
We sampled six different tapas dishes
and numerous specialty cocktails! Every bite was an exquisite journey as my tastebuds awakened to layers of flavor! Five stars...we will return very soon!!!
This place is very cool. The Mexican day of the dead theme rocks. The menu is quite extensive combining a couple of different genre's of cooking and that could be simplified a bit but it is a minor issue. The service and food were excellent. It is very noisy there so be prepared but that is part of going out at a cool place like this. Highly recommend this place.
Very loud but good food, drinks, service.
We were seated at the front of the room next to the windows. A table next to us seated with people right against one of our group so she couldn’t hear anything at our table. Overall their was a roar to the place that made conversation nearly impossible. Food was only slightly warm, salsa tasteless, fajitas just ok, guacamole fine with shrimp fajitas being the only good meal. It took forever to get churros for dessert for ONE person! I used to love this place but won’t be back. It was a disasterous birthday dinner!
Love it every time I go! And that is often!!! Great food. Great service. Great environment! Great location if you are heading downtown for an event after dinner. LOVE IT
Very tasty food, great cocktails (try the O.F.A.F) and excellent service. Our server April was awesome. This is a solid choice for dinner out as a couple or with the family (especially if your kids are "foodies" too)
Love the atmosphere, amazing menu. Warm and genuine staff
The food is great - especially the Frita Sliders and Navarin Tartlets - and the have a strong bar program
Grace and the bartender were so awesome! This was our second visit and surpassed the first which was excellent as well. The food was fabulous!
Excellent cocktails including some superb liquor flights with uncommon varieties. Prompt service, no rush to turnover tables. Good for groups of people.
Food was great... amazing!
On Saturday from 11:00 - 1:00 pm, the blast - I mean BLAST - 80's pop tunes so loud it is impossible to have an enjoyable conversation. And, while they say it is from 11:00 - 1:00, when we arrived at 10:30 it was already in full swing.
No more than half of the tables were taken. No more than half of the barstools were occupied. No one was dancing to the music. All it really served to do was to make me realize we can never go back there again after the theater or symphony.
I made a reservation for dinner to celebrate my birthday. it was my first time there and I had heard great things! I'm glad I got to experience it the food was amazing & the cocktails were outstanding. I will definitely be returning.
What a lovely surprise to find Sanctuaria. The tapas were absolutely exquisite in particular the bacon wrapped dates and braised beef on top a bed of mashed potatoes.
Very cool decor, especially for Halloween. The waiters were all dressed in costume. Our waitress was exceedingly attentive.
An absolutely wonderful experience.
This was the most disappointing dining experience I have had in a long time. You know that show with Gordon Ramsay, Kitchen Nightmares? This place belongs on it.
Where do I begin? I suppose I will lay my experience out chronologically. My party of 6 arrived at the time of our reservation. They did not have our table ready. We waited a few minutes and were seated. We looked at the menu and were very confused. The waitress came over 30 seconds later and asked us for our orders. Obviously we needed more time.
The menu was divided into three columns. The left side was labelled Sanctuaria and featured tapas. The middle was labelled in tiny print at the top with "farm to table from Foundation Farms" and featured what I can only guess was an attempt at New American. The right was labelled with something like Diablo Cantina and featured something like Mexican food. Prices ranged from 10-20 dollars or thereabouts. I assumed the tapas were meant to be shared but we had no idea what the deal was with the other items. The waitress came back and we asked her to explain. Apparently everything was meant to be shared, but she struggled to explain how many items we should order per person. At this point, if it had been up to me, I would have just gotten up and left, but my party was hungry. My poor wallet. We ended up spending probably around 180 dollars. None of us were full and the food was deplorable. It all looked and tasted microwaved. The highlight was the seared barramundi, which was served on a warm, mealy slice of watermelon. Yum.
On a positive note, the food came out relatively quickly so we didn't have to spend much time there.
We had a lovely anniversary dinner
Food was great. We love the outside patio area. We have been many times, but the service this time was not as good - a little slow and not as attentive to our table.
I just received a call from the manager Andy, who insisted that my party only paid $20-30 on a $600 bill. This was disturbing on many levels, as our bills were split up and I paid about $28 tip for my part (on a $140 bill). While I am very disappointed to hear that the server was shorted on her tips, I'm equally disappointed that I was held responsible for the actions of a large party because I coordinated the dinner, and my individual contribution dismissed.
Furthermore, the manager admitted that he didn't go through the tickets to see who paid what, which lends to the possibility of error. The call ended with a threat to add an auto-gratuity to my future bookings.
I've booked many large party meals before, and have never encountered an issue like this. I consider myself a good tipper, and have never considered the notion of policing my guests' tipping habits. I hope that the manager can appreciate my position, as I appreciate him looking out for his server.
Moral of the story: take caution when booking large parties here. Have a conversation with your guests beforehand if you decide to do it.
I'm just frustrated by the price, and what you get. $13 for two little sliders??!
Some may find Sanctuaria to be noisy, but we enjoyed the vibe. Unique decorations and of course excellent tapas. Talented bartender.
We oldsters went early so it was quiet. Great flavors and service!
Food was great, service not so much. My OpenTable reservation somehow got lost, but the manager took care of us, and I really appreciated that. It took so long for one person in our party to get his food, he had to just get it to go. We weren’t offered go-boxes for leftovers. Paying our bill took as long as eating our meal and mistakes were made on the charges on 3 of our 5 tickets. Overall, even though the food was delicious, I don’t think I’ll go back.
Service was good, recommendations on food and beverages was spot on. Bacon Wrapped dates were the best, also had fajita's and a couple of the crafted cocktails. Everything was perfect. Even better than the food was the outdoor patio. Highly recommend. I will be back.
We met another couple there to sample the Tapas and cocktails. Loved the eclectic decor and casual atmosphere. The service was fantastic. The food was very tasty and served piping hot as it was brought out as each dish was completed. A few of the Tapas options seemed a little high priced for the serving you received, but others were quite reasonable. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back.
We ate outside in a beautiful night. Food was very different. Very tasty! Service was very good. A fun place to go. A bit on the pricey side. We only ordered from he small tapas side because anything more was above $22 bucks!
