San Remo Ristorante - McKenzie Towne Ratings and Reviews
The food here has always been very good, as well as the special pricing on certain nights. I was sad to hear that this location was going to close soon. My wife and I will miss the food and service at this quality restaurant. I would just like to thank the staff for the exceptional service and food that we experienced over the last few years.
The service was terrible! Went for my son's birthday and was very unhappy with the slow service and the food was not that great for the price's they charge. The menu was changed from what was online, and the selections were limited for an Italian restaurant....
The service was quite slow at the beginning but there was only one person working. She seemed to disappear, however, when we just wanted to get some sugar for the coffee. When the meal came and during, she was good. The food was very good - everyone enjoyed what they ordered.
Allotted 2 hours for our party of 9 to dine before an event. Also booked an early reso of 530 -the restaurant was empty when we arrived so we thought things were going to work out perfect. First we Had to hunt down our server to order our food after 30 minutes of sitting there after receiving drinks. Then Waited an hour and a half for appetizers. Watched as several tables that ordered after us received their food first. And the main course did not come. We had no choice but to cancel our food and head out, having not eaten after sitting in a restaurant for 2 hours. i had a similar experience there on birthday in May but still booked here again hoping it would be better. It was worse and I won't be returning. I don't like to publish bad reviews but several people in my party remembered the terrible experience we had in May and were surprised I went back there for another celebration. I was embarrassed that this happened again.
Three of us dined at San Remo restaurant on a $10 Pasta Night. We all had different pasta dishes (Hot Sicilian spaghetti, Penne with Chicken and Artichokes and Chicken Parmigiana) and the opinions were unanimously good. Two of us split the Caesar salad (again, very good) and the Beet and Goat Cheese salad (also good but I miss the arugula in their former Beet Salad).
Our Server, Natasha, was very friendly and efficient!
The only downside to Pasta Night was the noise level. We arrived early (5:00pm) and it was very quiet but the noise level from neighbouring diners (young children screaming and loud patrons) as time went on was almost to the point of making it impossible to have a conversation.
All in all, though, great value for money, good food and nice atmosphere.
Decided to try a new restaurant for a girls' night out. We shared the antipasto platter to start which was fine, but the bread we requested to accompany it didn't arrive until our entrees arrived. Pasta meals were large portion sizes, but very plain for the price. Not worth the $20-25 price for pasta with a simple meat sauce. Service was OK - pleasant and friendly but slow. Menu in the restaurant is completely different than online menu. Overall disappointing and will not return.
The Pasta lunch prices were very good. 2 out of 6 of the appetizers were not available for a Friday lunch! Need to purchase tea pots as only one of us could have tea, they had no more pots. Mushroom pasta was good, as were the Sambuca prawns and the Ahi tuna.
The food took a long time to come and the restaurant wasn't all that busy. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food but I had a Caesar salad that went right through me within an hour after eating. Friendly and attentive server but that does not make up for bad dressing on salad.
We reserved a table in the lounge, and in retrospect, should have asked for low table, since we find tall tables uncomfortable. There were no low tables available, so sat in the dining room where we could not take advantage of happy hour. (Note: the seats felt as if we were going to fall through them.)
It's impossible for us to justify spending almost double for a glass of wine that would be $5.00 in the lounge. We usually order a bottle of wine, but we were driving that evening, so only wanted a glass with dinner.
This was the text my husband sent to me about having dinner at San Remo: "San Remo's - I'll buy you some wine." We don't mind spending a fair amount of money for dinner, we both had appetizers and a main course; but to spend nearly twice the price for a glass of wine simply because we sat 30 feet away from the lounge seemed ridiculous. So we didn't have any.
How is this disparity cost effective to the restaurant? Unless a customer doesn't care about their pocketbook, why would anyone order a glass of wine in the dining room? If it's a "regulation" thing, then decrease the price of a glass of wine across the board in both dining areas - more will be sold, for sure, and then we wouldn't have to concern ourselves with where we sit either. Surely, we can't be the only ones who feel this way.
Our server was attentive and friendly. Our food was prepared well. Disappointed that the walnut pie, although listed on the online menu, is no longer served. In fact, the online menu is very different from the menu in the restaurant (which is curious, since the person I spoke to on the phone said they were the same).
This place was awesome! i was slightly hesitant because we didn't see very many reviews. We went on a Sunday and you need reservations but there specials are amazing that night. My father is a celiac and even he was more than accommodated with gluten free crackers when we all got bread and lots of options! We will absolutely be back.
We have been three other times and the food was quite good. This time, I'm not sure what happened, but the food was virtually inedible... The fish was overlooked to the point of being like a brick.. Smothered in a highly spiced tomato sauce that overtook the delicate fish flavour. Just awful.. So disappointed..
We really enjoyed our Sunday evening with you. We were celebrating our daughter and son- in - law's 17th wedding anniversary. Our waitress was great and everyone enjoyed their pasta dinner, even our grandchildren who can be quite fussy! We definitely will be returning and have told friends about your place! Thanks again for a wonderful evening!
Met with a group of friends in the bar to watch Olympic events and enjoy food and the company! We enjoyed everything about the evening . We have been before and this time tried the antipasto platter and a few other appys to go along with pizza. Really enjoyed the watermelon Salad. One of our group had the smoked chicken dinner and loved it too. Yep, we'll be going back!
We have dined at San Remo many times and been very happy with the food /service/overall . This was not the case on Tuesday August 16. There were 6 of us. 4 got their meals and were finished eating when the last 2meals were delivered. The 2 meals in question were over done and dry and sent back to the kitchen. Ordered a gin and tonic and got vodka and soda. Ordered a bottle if wine and much later we were told that they were out of that one. Just ordered by the glass.
Our server did not clear the table so we piled up the dirty dishes and the person who delivered our food from the kitchen took them away. We paid and gave the server a tip but will not return. We will find another place that we can be sure we will get good service when we take our fronds out for an evening.
Restaurant was not very busy which made us a little concerned at first. However the food is fantastic. Very flavorful meals, brought out in a timely manner and the server was very attentive until we were looking to pay...kind of forgot about us a bit at the end. Only complaint was that the music in the restaurant was very loud. Probably set at a volume for a full room of people but with only a few tables we found it too loud and hard to hear each other.
