Owner Sammy Gashiano started working in an Italian Restaurant at the age of 16 in Rimini, Italy. In 1995, he followed his passion to a NYC restaurant where he picked up the skills necessary in gourmet food at the hard knock school of fine dining, working his way to master chef in places like Acapella and Lorto’s. By the age of 32 Sammy established his first restaurant, San Marino, in downtown Manhattan at 15 Gold Street, which later expanded to Staten Island. Now, he’s expanded again offering his incredible food to the bustling neighborhood of Soho.

San Marino Soho Ratings and Reviews
I was staying at the Marriot Courtyard and decided to not travel too far. I saw that San Marino was a nearby restaurant and decided to go there. The portobello mushroom and red snapper dishes that I had ordered were cooked perfectly. I will most definitely be back again.
This is my favorite Italian restaurant I always have to eat here when we travel for business in New York City. The food is outstanding and service is 5 Star. Porcini Mushroom Ravioli is divine. Love the little extra portions of bread the parmigiano cheese and the fried zucchini and the last little glass of grappa to finish off a great meal. A must eat place if you’re in tow amazing.
San Marino is a terrific italian restaurant with an attentive staff and a very calm atmosphere for excellent dining. Everything was delicious, we started with fried zucchini and olives, which were complimentary on the house. They also offered gluten free and vegetarian options. We highly recommend this restaurant to others who are looking for a good Italian restaurant.
Fabulous! The service was beautiful and the food was amazing. I tested everyone's entree, between 4 of us we had 2 kinds of pasta; one with pesto sauce, one with lemon sauce and salmon. We also tried branzini and red snapper; that was delicious. We were treated with respect but not in an over bearing way. The staff were obliging and charming and interested in serving us and making our visit memorable - they achieved that. We would not hesitate to recommend this establishment to people who appreciate fine dining and want to enjoy that 'special' nice out. We certainly would return
i don't know how they got the high rating ! My 1st clue to a problem was the fact that our table of 4 was the only diners in the restaurant for an hour. we were later joined by another table of 4 and a table of 1 ! This is a Thursday night in NYC ? the food was fair at best, with my orecchiette/sausage pasta appetizer nearly tasteless. the wait staff was pleasant and attentive and the restaurant is nicely decorated, but the food was definitively a disappointment.
I came here for a business meeting and everything was quite delectable. The staff was on point and very professional from when I came until I left. The food may I add was even better than the service which was top of the line. All together I highly recommend this place and look forward to dining again very soon. Thank you San Marino.
Everyone at San Marino treated my family and I like honored guests. As soon as we sat, we were provided with complimentary fried eggplant and olives. Both were delicious. The bread was decent too. The calamari at first appeared pedestrian, but it was very tender and delicious. All of our entrees were outstanding and my son's lobster ravioli had huge, tender chunks of lobster in it. After dinner, I was offered complimentary Sambucca aperitif. My two glasses of wine both had generous pours. We would return here for sure. Great food and reasonable prices for SoHo.
We had a business dinner and had about 10 people in our group. The restaurant booked us a private party room which was quite and cozy. We ordered pre-fixed dinner menu and shared 4 appetizers family style. The second course portion was very generous and everyone enjoyed their selection from salmon to veal. We ordered bottles of both white and red wine to share and completed the dinner with coffee and tea and shared a few desserts as we were pretty full. Highly recommend the restaurant if you have a chance to go to NYC.
Stayed over at Trump Soho me and my business partner were looking for a nice Italian restaurant around the area place was recommended by the concierge walked to San Marino very close to our Hotel. Let me tell you I love their Gnocchi pasta with veal raggu it was delicious I highly recommend to try they will do an appetizer portion if you ask the best gnocchi I had in my life we also ordered a bottle of Brunello di Montalcino it's my favorite enjoyed every sip. I will definitely be back again Sami the owner couldn't of been more accommodating thank you San Marino.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here before a concert that was around the corner. It was early on a Friday night (before 6) and there was one other group of four in the room. Service was attentive without being overbearing and the food was wonderful, starting with the olives and zucchini chips plates that arrived with the bread and butter. We shared an appetizer of calamari that was oh so tender! My husband declared his spaghetti carbonara to be the best he ever had. I had a chicken dish with artichokes and mushrooms that was delightful. I think we have found a new favorite restaurant!!!
Everything in San Marino was amazing. This restaurant was spectacular. The food was good, the service was good, they have great wines. I had the Fettucini Sammarinse and it was outstanding i would definitely recommended this to a friend. Trust me San Marino wont disappoint you.
Restaurant: Above average wine list, with seemingly the better choices of each wine type. Service is fast yet able to maintain a non rushed experience. The restaurant provides gourmet northern Italian food. There is no other restaurant in a 10 miles radius that comes close to this one. The only one is in Englewood Cliffs that restaurant's portions are just too small you leave hungry. NOT here, San Marino is the best of the best offering free grappa at the end of the meal which was absolutely the best I have ever tasted. (I am not a grappa drinker but have tried it many times with no success)
Reservations are suggested, Atmosphere was warm . Excellent
Service was exceptional!
It was an early dinner because we were seeing a show at the Beacon Theater. the rain & wind was severe & we needed extra travel time. Skipped appetizer, just enough time for a drink & entree. My meal consisted of chicken on the bone - well...it was bone, skin and literally one bite of chicken. They were very quick to replace it with an acceptable dish. Again, the wait staff/ service was outstanding.
We had a marvelous dinner at San Marino Soho, where the dining room is attractive and comfortable, the staff friendly and welcoming, and the service, cuisine and presentation all excellent. Moderate prices make this an excellent value.
Minestrone was prepared to order with fresh vegetables, and a pasta dish (pappardelle) was delicious. A whole fish was grilled to perfection, boned for us at our request, and accompanied by a generous serving of broccoli sauteed with fresh garlic and oil.
The restaurant is located just half a block away from the Greene Space, making it perfect for pre- or post-performance dining. There is abundant free on-street parking after 6:00 p.m., and subways are just a few blocks away.
Very, Very nice Italian Restaurant in that area. Before show to city winery definitely, have a dinner in this restaurant.reasonably priced for NYC standard. wine list with many choices. Whole Branzini was perfect and Fresh Pappardelle pasta with mushroom and I love truffle oil. Complimentary home made Sambuca was very nice .Very nice place in that side of Soho.
If you are looking for a place with great food and service especially for a special occasion, this is the place to be! The manager gave us the private room which fit 16 of us for my brother's 30th birthday. We had 4 kids with us (2 children and 2 toddlers) and we were able to be seated comfortably . The service was very good and the manager, Sam, offered great starters to start off with. He was very accommodating and the waiters were all very friendly. We ordered pizza, pizza, steak, and lamb and the food was awesome! I would highly recommend this place.
I was expecting more from this place that had very very good reviews. We were seated promptly and the gentleman who were helping were all wonderful, but upon receiving our cocktails, one was supposed to be a vodka gimlet that had no lime juice in it. The other two were supposed to be Manhattans. One of them was apparently spilled on the way to the table so the glass was three quarters full. And in a martini style glass, that's a lot of liquid to be missing. They did offer to remake the gimlet and the second one seemed to be better. Nice touch having delicious olives, bread, and fried zucchini complementary before the meal. After that, it was rather mediocre. Nothing bad, just nothing to write home about either. I had the Mount Etna chicken, which is chicken and sausage and peppers and a balsamic reduction. It was the ugliest dish of food that I've ever seen served to me. Everything was dark brown with absolutely no color on the plate. Presentation with a green vegetable of some sort would have been nice. That having been said, it was perfectly edible and again, I have no specific complaint about the taste of the food. with so many other choices in the area, I probably won't be back. It's not far from what could be great, but they need to try a little harder.
We had business dinner in this place and was very good ,reasonable .From the moment we enter the restaurant the greeting the welcome was so warm Their main dining room was very warm and welcome .I had for dinner papardelle pasta with touch of trufle oil.all my party enjoy their food .their compliment homemade Sambuca was excellent to end our dinner.
Overall the food was well prepared and lots of complimentary appetizers. The fried zuchinni was delicious. We had one problem one in our party ordered a dish that had a balsamic reduction it was too heavy with the reduction. The restaurant did the right thing and did not charge us for that entree. The rest of us had very good prepared meals. The wait staff was very accommodating and congenial . Their home made complimentary sambucca was very good. Seems like in good weather they have a nice outdoor area. Would go back.
We went to San Marino Soho for dinner on Christmas Eve before a show at City Winery. We ended up with a great table and very few other customers so it was quiet, the waiters were excellent, and the good was really good. We were so close to City Winery so we didn't have to rush to get there. Overall, it was a great atmosphere, we had a lot of fun, and the vegetarians among us had a lot of options as well.
We were in NYC for the weekend attempting to enjoy all of the holiday happenings that we could in one weekend. We attempted to get a reservation at one of our favorite places but it was booked solid - as were many others in Little Italy. We opted for San Marino in Soho since the menu provided similar options that we all enjoyed. The food was good, although not what we had hoped for from our favorite Italian restaurant. But the service was impeccable! We were welcomed and seated quickly upon our arrival. We had several wait staff at our service who provided us with a variety of bread items, made recommendations for menu selection, and provided a tray of desserts. Overall, a very enjoyable evening, made extra special by the staff.
Business dinner for a group of about 12; overall we had a nice evening. Highlights:
- very good location; attached to a hotel just 1 block from the Houston St. 1 train
- Meal was paced just about right; perhaps a tiny bit slow. The place was almost empty so the kitchen wasn't overwhelmed
- The food was very good; no one got a bad selection
- Service was a little too pushy; upselling constantly
- Wine selection was excellent
MARIO WAS GREAT!!!!!! Everything about this meal was perfect. The good was lovely, the wait staff were attentive without being overbearing and some nice touches to make my girlfriend's birthday special. Let them know it's a special occasion and see what happens!
We spent this past weekend in NYC. We were looking for a quiet, upscale Italian restaurant in the SoHo area. I found the San Marino on-line and we decided to give it a try. I am so glad we did. We were a party of 6 for dinner last Saturday night. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted warmly by the maitre de, MARIO. The atmosphere was comfortable and quiet. Our waiter, Mario, was very friendly and could not have been more accommodating. The appetizers were so delicious that we ordered a second round of them. We all loved our meals and the desserts as well. Bottom line, You should not miss this place! It is a little deceiving from the entrance (next to a hotel) but a true gem of a restaurant. One of the best in NYC!
