Top Italiener. Immer wieder gerne
When I pick a restaurant in SoHo that I've never before tried, and I find out about it only through the familiar "its Saturday night where am I getting a same day reservation post movie" frenzy, I'm always skeptical that I'm going to stumble inside and find the experience to be disappointing. I am happy to say that I had exactly the opposite experience at San Carlo. It not only lived up to the rave reviews, but I had 3 very picky and experienced Manhattan eatery diners with me and all 4 of us would vote for a return trip, movie or not, even though none of us live in the area. Service was flattering and attentive without being overbearing, table was comfortable, you could hear yourself talk and think AND the food was outstanding. Not sure where they find the goat cheese for the salad, but it is exceptional, the veal milanese was huge and perfectly prepared, the ragu pasta was a healthy portion and delicious, and the cauliflower risotto was creamy and delicious - and dairy free. They even have a lovely plate of biscotti which, at 1030 at night is a perfect dessert to end the meal with enough cookies to share for 4 people and then some. Glad to know there's still something wonderful to discover when the reservation genie is called into action. Can't wait to return!
A big comeback my second time here. Right after they opened it was a disaster but now it's perfection. Glad I gave them another chance!
Very kind owner and great Italian food in NYC, recommended!
A wonderful small cozy Northern Italian restaurant with the menu filled with delicious authentic homemade pastas and dishes influenced by their Piedmonte region of northern Italy. The food was exceptional in quality, some of the best Italian food I have eaten in theUnited States. So good in fact we went back twice during our brief stay in New York city. The service was excellent and prices were fair. When we were there for lunch we were the only English-speaking natives and the rest of the people enjoying the food were from Italy or speaking Italian. Truly felt like we were back in Italy.
Very great restaurant !!!
Italian family at its head they of course speak French which is very enjoying. We have been welcomed as warmly as possible.
Next time on New York I know exactly where I will go for lunch. An advice ? Try the MARJAN SIMCIC White wine... an excellent slovenian wine. A very good discovery!!!
Many thanks to San Carlo Osteria
Fantastic Italian restaurant in soho. Great food and service.
I would call it fusion Italian! Good service and food!
Great place, perfect Italian restaurant for intimate dinner
Our favorite Italian in Soho. Moreno and his wonderful staff treat us like family and I only wish my real family could produce so many amazing and authentic northern specialties. The ravioli “plin” tastes of Piemonte while the kitchen pleases with the Battuta di Fassona (steak tartare), gnocchi and pork loin. I usually hate Tiramisù as a lane Americanized “dolce” but San Carlo’s is actually good, no...really good.
The best Italian food we have had in NYC in a very long time. Fresh ingredients , perfectly cooked, innovative combinations. Had many Risottos, but never one as good as at San Carlo. Service was very gracious and professional. Owners make sure everybody has a good time and enjoys the food. Cannot wait to go back.
Real Italian food in Soho!
We went for jazz brunch and it was outstanding! Great music, great service, and very impressive food and wine. Loved it!
They cleared our table before we were done with desert. We asked for our spoons back and they did it again 2 min later.
You cannot expect a table of 6 having 3 courses to be done in less than 2 hours.
Fantastic restaurant and service. Worth every penny.
Fun, friendly place. Customer service and respect is the best feature! Food is excellent, always delicious and a little adventurous. Not inexpensive, but good value. Recommend without hesitation.
Excellent food and service!!
Had a wonderful birthday celebration at San Carlo. Everyone in our party was dazzled by the warmth of their staff, the quality of the dishes and the casual yet professional ambiance.
Overall the restaurant was underwhelming. My family is from the region and I ordered the short ribs. There were two very small pieces of meat in a very cloudy broth. Not what it is in Piemonte. The meat was not even tender. My daughter ordered gnocchi with a taleggio fondue and the gnocchi came out dry?? Terrible!!,
Nicely priced lunch menu. Great service, nice atmosphere. Bolognese sauce amazing. Mushroom pasta and salmon tartar were ok but not the best i’ve had. Wine delicious.
they were watching soccer game and going crazy. Not only some customers but also people working there was screaming as well. I understand if its sports bar but I paid almost $300 for dinner. Also maybe because of the game, service was bad. food was average
Great authentic Italian restaurant. Food and service was fantastic. Every one in our group loved their meal.
Lovely place, relaxing Sunday brunch. Had Chicken Milanese-needs a little more flavor.
Awesome every component was great delicious aged Negroni super sommelier, proficiently annivsery menu was great deal. & do the truffle menu too
Simply the Best!
Want to feel like your REALLY are in Italy...do NOT miss San Carlo Osteria Piedmonte! The owners are from Italy. The kitchen staff are from Italy. The waitstaff is from Italy. And MOST of the clients are Italian; speaking Italian while dining. And the food...W O W!!!! Not to be missed!
real nice place with soft live music now and thenn
Came for brunch with my parents who were in from out of town. The jazz was lovely but the drinks took forever to come and my dads steak and eggs were over cooked both times. With all the competition this was underwhelming.
We had 9:15 reservations and sat at the bar. Atmosphere was cute and rustic. Bartender, Renata was very friendly and helpful with suggestions on the menu for drinks and dinner. I think it was the owner who came around and constantly talking with customers asking how they liked everything and making general conversation. All of our food choices were great. I loved my beef ravioli, homemade and the perfect amount of a butter sage sauce. My favorite was the strawberry panna cotta. I could have easily ate another one. So creamy! Definitely will be back!
We found this gem of a place on a Saturday night. Great atmosphere and vibe. The service was excellent and the food even better. We had scallops and beef tartar to start which were fabulous. The ravioli and seafood entrees were amazing. The Italian wine list was a little pricey but the somelier was excellent in his recommendation. We will definitely be going back
A lovely, familiar place!! Serviceminded staaf!! Charmig located!
Awesomely consistent as always!
The service was atrocious. They forgot about us constantly. However, the food was very delicious.
From the friendly greeting when we arrived early for our reservation till we left to a warm thank you, a great dining experience. We got seated right away and ordered a crisp white wine we had never had from the Piedmont Region that was recommended by the Sommelier, it turned out to be a great choice. We had pasta appetizers, both phenomenal (gnocchi with mushrooms and spaghetti with anchovy/raisins/pine nuts). For dinner we had the cod and striped bass regular menu selections. The flavor and preparation of both dishes was fantastic...just the right portion size, especially after the pasta appetizers. A shared tiramisu was a very nice dessert.... our waiter Mikko, was very friendly and extremely professional; he brought over a platter of cookies and a couple of glasses of Moscato as well....very nice touch!! On a side note you know an Italian Restaurant is good when the person sitting at the table next to you owns his own Italian Restaurant and half of the other patrons are all conversing in Italian. A great, friendly place you won't be disappointed and we would definitely go back!!
The dining experience was very nice . It was my husband & I first time at the restaurant . Service was great and very accommodating , very nice staff!Food was delicious & fresh . We would definitely go back !
Ok but does not stand out in Soho Italian places. Nice service and very friendly staff. Wish I liked the food more or was at a better price point. Disappointing
Travelled from the UK to propose on Valentine’s Day and celebrate with a meal at this restaurant only to be told that it was set menu only (despite not being made aware of this beforehand) so due to fear of not getting a table anywhere else we agreed and were met with the choice of 2 starters and 2 main courses (awful amount of options) which were less than average at best. It really was a shame because the restaurant itself was very nice and the staff were friendly, however I was left with a $250+ bill and a less than satisfied dining experience on a very special occasion.
The food was amazing but the restaurant was WAY to bright and the explosion of red stars on the table made the valentines dinner seem cheap. It would have also been nice to choose something from a limited menu. All in all fair experience.
