Samurai Sushi Bar & Restaurant - Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Having migrated to AB from BC, I've yet to find a comparable sushi restaurant. Samauri's ingredients are fresh and top quality, but it's just another sushi place... way way too expensive for what product is being offered....
Service was great but, it's over-rated simply by being in the Banff Springs Fairmont...
I took a chance booking this place as a surprise for my husband. It paid off!!! Our waiter James was the friendliest waiter we have ever had. Not only was he knowlegeable about the food and wine, he also gave us great tips for local travels. We would definitely recommend this sushi restaurant and we will be back whenever we are back in the area.
We have eaten at samurai a number of times and it never disappoints. The sushi is always top notch which is very difficult to find In Alberta most of the time
The food is absolutely outstanding and the service is exemplary which you would expect at the Fairmont
Had high expectations given the great reviews. The restaurant is pretty and the service was good. However the sushi did not seem fresh. Both my husband and I ordered sushi, the chef's choice, and were very disappointed. Did not finish the sushi. My daughter had the tempura udon. She liked it, but the broth was lacking flavor (as was the miso soup). I'm willing to pay for good sushi, but this was overpriced for the quality of sushi that was received. Would not go back or recommend.
Dinner was fantastic - did the equivalent of the chef's table where the chef prepared for us whatever he wanted. It was wonderful. The ONLY negative comment I would give is it is way to bright in the restaurant (gave no atmosphere whatsoever) and seems very casual given the pricing. The front looks like it needs to be renovated. Staff was very nice and helpful.
It is always a treat dining at the Samurai. Mr Osada & Masa are a treat to watch as their creations beautiful and tasty. The fish is so fresh and presentation is phenomenal. Ross is, as always, a wonderful and charismatic manager making the experience even better. Thanks once again for the warm and inviting welcome - we will be back again soon.
It has been 16+ years we have been visiting the Banff Springs Hotel and the Samurai Sushi Bar. We have never been disappointed. If you want authentic sushi, fresh - fresh - fresh - this is the place to come. And Chef is also amazingly accommodating. Natto? no problem, sustainable - yes, vegan - yes you can eat here! Fantastic team - always nice to see familiar faces at Samurai!
The sushis were OK but nothing outstanding for what we are used in a Fairmont restaurant.
The decoration is very out of date and needs a renewing. The entrance bar is OK but the dining area is quite dark, the walls need new paint . The service was very friendly.
as per usual everything about our experience at Samurai was outstanding. Ross the host was warm and welcoming, our sushi master Masa was on point (when is he not!). If you are looking for a great spot to dine in Banff-local or not- I highly recommend. I have no negative feedback, our experience was flawless.
We made reservations thinking that side we'd be in such a high end hotel then the restaurant would surely be great! We love sushi and we were so excited to eat there! When we arrived we immediately realized that it was tiny and the tables were mostly dominated by the hot pot plate. We perused the menu and were very disappointed by the sushi selection, very few rolls sounded good and very few even had raw fish in them... ummm what? We had others joining us and they would have preferred a cooked japanese meal but the only options were appetizers or hot pot. My husband asked the waiter for a beer that he saw in their fridge when we walked in, when the waiter brought it to him he brought the large bottle (big enough for two) and when my husband told him that what he had asked for was the single can the waiter simply shrugged and walked away. So in the end we paid for the giant beer and tea and went elsewhere for dinner. Very disappointed in our experience but when I complained to the hotel front desk they dealt with our complaint in a friendly and efficient manner.
My wife and I attended your restaurant and we had a great time, making a reservation was easy. The food was great, prices were reasonable and we both left satisfied. I do wish that maybe you did something for birthdays as my wife was celebrating hers. I mentioned it on my reservation but received no response. Overall I would recommend to a friend and we will certainly return when we are in Banff again.
The restaurant was dark and cold. The appetizers were very tasty except the soft shell crabs which tasted "off". The sushi was very small but delicious. As for the service if Frank is your server get up and leave I have never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant.
